The book is a great keyhole glimpse into the workings of the "useful idiots" who populate our World. Trying to explain these people is tough, but this book does a great job, using their own words, of damning these people and their vile intents.

Sounds like a good book, but I have to ration my money as well as my time. Do I spend money buying and time reading every book that looks interesting, or do I spend my time here and virtually no money?

I wish Mr. Glazov luck with sales, I certainly respect his work. But I am starting to get depressed as I learn more about the Left. I've been watching and learning about them since the mid-1960s. I don't really want to learn any more, but I might be convinced to "do" something about them.

Nice review Col. Peters.

I have to take issue with the proposition put forth that Leftists hate humanity, and the pursuit of happiness in human nature and therefore hate America. These descriptions fall flat. In fact, no explanation I've searched for has made much sense. I suppose I was not a very good Leftist, but I never had praise nor love for communist dictators, and I pretty much viewed them as corrupt individuals that lusted for power, and I didn't associate their individual actions with Leftist ideas that I had sympathy for like socialism, etc. I actually think it's simply the indoctrination that many young people receive through the media and the universities. It teaches them all of the bad things in our history, and glosses over all of the great things, whilst minimalizing and downright lying about the bad history in the so called third world, or blaming all of that bad history on the West or Europeans more specifically. Actually, it's white people, since today, America is great and "cool" again now that we have a black President. We are the big bad enemy of history, because of Imperialism and slavery and in modern times we are also painted as the major bad guy because of global warming and our attempts to defend ourselves from Islamists, who by the way were created by us. All of Islamist terrorism is blamed on our influence and our occupation. So you see, we can never catch a break. Media and tUniversities are apt to call-out the developed world for its "carbon emissions" and forgiving China or India for the same thing. I don't think this is all about "hatred for humanity" but rather a healthy introspection and self-criticism gone haywire, along with a hesitation to apply our standards to other cultures. We beat ourselves up, and fail to celebrate and pat ourselves on the back for all of our accomplishments. It's "cool" to view America so cynically. It's "racist" to criticize countries in Africa or Asia, unless you're criticising them solely by blaming the problem on Western influence. Islamists can't be real bad guys because many of them are from the third world, and or are "persons of color" and I honestly believe that all of these issues are summed up in one principle, the soft bigotry of lowered expectations. Leftists who think America is the root of all evil are reflexively saying that only America is responsible and capable enough to blame. Terrorists are never responsible for their crimes beause they were pushed into it out of desperation, this is essentially a soft-bigoted, soft-racist view of Arabs as children who can't be held accountable for their own problems in their culture. I also believe that the story of Israel is never told honestly and fairly, and as a kid growing up in the 90's having limited access to tv, CNN was my main, only source for news. Their take on the issues, history and dynamics of the region was all I knew, and at that time I had a very anti Israel stance, precisely because of their news reporting. I simply was uninformed. I didn't hate America or Israel out of some nihilistic, philosophical reasoning.
I think "United in Hate" is a decent idea for a book, granted I should read the book before nitpicking further, but from the reviews I've read, and interviews I've seen of Glazov, it's too simplistic in its understanding of the reasons why, the motivations of people like Churchill or Chomsky. I think Churchill is the classic 60's hippie suffering from white guilt, so much so that he tried to become another identity. He also thought he could get more street cred amongst his lefty, native, identity politik-pals by being so traitorous to America. Ironically, he made most natives cringe, and revoke their associations with him (his "honorary cherokee" status was revoked) He's not an intellectual, at all. Chomsky is a whole other beast. One could write a whole book on Chomsky alone, his motivations, his hypocracy, his suspiciously ghost-written material. I also think many of these Liberal types are only that way because it's trendy, more fashionable, socially acceptable. You accept one premise of the Left, or just a few, (which usually happens in junior high school thanks to the public school system) and you become part of the tribe. I don't think they are genuinely commited to the ideologies they profess.
