I beleive the only way for this to be stopped is for Isreal to attack and bomb Iran, and possibly use tactical nukes if it has to and be backed by US, Britain and Western Europe in doing this

Would an EMP destroy electronic equipment even if it is turned off? In other words, would it only fry devices that are currently turned on / drawing power?

The bomb is detonated above the US but all it does it set the stage for verichip to be introduced into society. that is where the real threat is. a bomb would just piss people off. make them united. but the real goal is global control- and verichip is that devise to control.

this threat is very real. Iran is a fundamentalist and fanatic religious organization and is bordering the ex – soviet Union, so it has access to modern technology

In case of a “dirty” bomb, get your ass to a GNC (or similar place) and buy potassium, iodine, and calcium pills to protect yourself from the primary radioactive isotopes. If you're exposed, take a shower and discard your clothes. Keep your windows closed and stay inside for a while.

Given the choice between a real nuke and a dirty bomb, I'll take a dirty bomb hands down.

I think the organized terrorists are too smart to use a dirty bomb. All that would accomplish would be to unite the country or maybe even wake it up.
They are waiting for a knock out blow.
The last thing they want is a united USA that is still functioning.

The real problem is the high voltage transformers which are connected to the power lines and are difficult to replace. I would imagine they could design fuses for the connections, but the reality is that they ain't doing anything.

Why can't sensitive areas be enclosed by metal conductors? The field inside a closed conductor is zero. That's why it's safe to be in an automobile during a lightening storm.

This is a real threat. The USA and USSR built nuclear weapons in quantities to utterly destroy their enemies because they could, and it's obviously far more preferable to threaten your enemy with total destruction than with a mere EMP attack.
For a third rate shithole like Iran this is the perfect tactic; you don't even need an accurate missile. All out retaliation against a launch off the coast by an unverified terrorist group by a disorganized US government against an indirect explosion in the high atmosphere is also questionable.
EMP was first recognized because a high altitude test named 'starfish' over the Pacific in the early 60s caused unexpected damage to electrical devices and was eventually understood to have occurred due to the previously unknown phenomenon.

The think that a dirty bomb threat by terrorists is real but the sophistication required for launching a missile and denonating a nuclear bomb of sufficient size to generating a large EMP pulse requires a state.

The Government Accountability Office has raised concerns over so-called “dirty bombs,” saying the U.S. is taking too long to secure radioactive materials that could get into terrorists’ hands.

A GAO report states: “Radioactive sealed sources, which are commonly used throughout the world for a variety of purposes, are radioactive materials sealed in a capsule or permanently bonded in a solid form. These sealed sources are used in medicine and in the oil and gas, electric power, construction, and food industries.

“For example, devices containing radioactive sealed sources are used to diagnose and treat millions of patients each year, sterilize items such as medical instruments and food, and detect flaws in the metal welds in pipelines. Currently, about 2 million sealed sources are licensed for use in the United States.

“Since terrorists attacked the United States in 2001, concerns have grown that they could obtain and use sealed sources to build a “dirty bomb” — a type of radiological dispersal device (RDD) that uses conventional explosives to disperse radioactive material.”

Experts believe a dirty bomb attack would be confined to a small area, but could have a significant psychological effect and serious economic consequences due to cleanup problems, the Los Angeles Times reported.

The GAO found that new requirements aimed at securing radioactive materials are more than three years behind schedule.

In more than 20 years of research and development of missile guidance systems I never saw any serious thought given to the utterly stupid idea that a single well placed atmospheric burst could shutdown the entire nation's electrical system. Why else would both the Soviets and the Americans build thousands of deliverable warheads if their economies could be destroyed with a single shot?

This is fear mongering of the worst kind and is beneath a fine, respectable website like Frontpagemag.

Please contact a nuclear weapons lab (Sandia, Los Alamos National Labs, Brookhaven Labs or Lawrence Livermore) and get an actual expert to respond to this article, if he can stop laughing long enough.

I've been reading about EMP since my days in Aerospace. I was hoping it would not become an issue in my lifetime. But then, several things I was concerned about have become issues in my lifetime. Now I have the additional worry of our future being controlled by a wimpy, politically correct government. Until Americans get off their butts and take back this country, we are all at greater risk. Think about your children and grand-children; what kind of horrors will they inherit?
