There may be a major silver lining for conservatives and for America’s future thanks to the foreign and domestic policies of President Obama and the Democrat-controlled House and Senate: For the first time in their lives, millions of Americans are coming to understand the left.
It is difficult to overstate how important this is. For decades, the left has largely controlled the news media, the arts, the universities and the entertainment media. And vast numbers of Americans have imbibed these leftist messages and the leftist critiques of conservatives. What these Americans have never been able to do is to see what the left would actually do if in power.
Of course, all one had to do was look at California and see how a left-wing legislature brought the country’s largest state economy to near insolvency and bankruptcy, chased away many of its most productive citizens, and wasted tens of billions of dollars thanks in large measure to union domination of the state’s politics.
But most Americans do not observe other states. Most Americans are preoccupied with their lives and, unfortunately, with what is on television.
Now, this has all changed. Americans are watching California enacted on the national stage.
And it is scaring all but the ideologically committed left — a rather small, if profoundly influential and powerful, minority. This is why last week, Gallup reported an extraordinarily dramatic and quick shift of independent voters’ electoral preferences. In the Gallup Poll’s words: “Over the course of the year, independents’ preference for the Republican candidate in their districts has grown, from a 1-point advantage in July to the current 22-point gap.”
In half a year, there has been a 23 percent shift from Democrats to Republicans among independent voters. And nothing particularly bad had occurred — no further economic meltdown, no terrorist attack from abroad (the Poll preceded the Fort Hood attack).
Now Americans see the left’s policies for what they are:
1. The left wants America to abandon its defining commitment to individualism and replace it with a European-style nanny, or welfare, state.
At most Americans’ core is an abiding belief that we are supposed to take care of ourselves, our families and our neighbors, and not rely on the state to do so.
2. The left is naive about evil. Most Americans deemed Communism evil; the left ridiculed President Ronald Reagan for calling the Soviet Union an “evil empire” and often undermined the fight against the Communist world. So, too, the left is naive about Islamic terror and undermines the fight against it.
The smoking gun was the nearly universal denial by the left that his Islamic beliefs had anything to do with Maj. Nidal Hasan’s mass murder of fellow servicemen at Fort Hood. One of many examples was this reaction to the shootings by Evan Thomas, Editor at Large at Newsweek: “I think he’s probably just a nut case. But with that label (Muslim) attached to him, it will get the right wing going…”
3. The left is more interested in redistributing wealth than in creating it. This should have been as obvious to Americans as the brightness of the sun. Finally, Americans are coming to realize that the left’s goal is now, as it always has been, equality, not prosperity.
4. The left is far more interested in power than the right is. This, too, should have been self-evident, but finally, people are realizing that those who are preoccupied with creating an ever-expanding state are obviously far more interested in amassing power than those who want a smaller state.
5. The left is preoccupied with America being loved, and in pursuit of that end, compromises some of America’s core values. Examples abound here, too. To cite a few: the Obama administration’s neglect of those in Iran risking their lives for freedom in that tyranny; the administration’s refusal to meet with the Dalai Lama when the Tibetan leader visited Washington, lest the president annoy China’s dictators; the American government siding with Hugo Chavez against the Honduran government, which had legally removed a Chavez clone from the Honduran presidency; and the president’s obsequious apologies for America wherever he goes.
A motto of my radio show and of my life is “Clarity is our friend.” It is certainly so here. Clarity about the left will be a blessing to America.
once again, conservatives, you are fighting the last war. The Cold War. Clear lines, like us vs. them. Rooskies vs. Good Guys! Easy to see.
The Chinese system is different. It is a completely different animal. Think Siddhartha. Life is a journey, and your line of site is a tunnel into a new cave to explore. Dumb think like that. Like “yes I can cut you up, but I would rather give the death of 1000 cuts to your family! They have the reservations! For you! You get the drop of water on your forehead until you die of thirst! mWaHaHaHa!”
Stuff like that.
You really are giving the American public right now too much guts. Remember, the first wave in the war are the martyrs. The scouts lead the berzerkers to smoke the rats out of their holes. Now it is time to bring in the heavy seige equipment to make life living hell until your enemy balks. Who cares if Obama has the White House. As far as I am concerned, ya know, coming from daHood, that's just a grave to keep the one brain which really runs the country alive by feeding it so-called voters.
The left for decades has a foothold on ignorance. Now suddenly, we somehow got both the ignorance card and the morality card. After all, if we listened to Barak, we would have had a genocide.
I will say right now on behalf of the generation which has preceded the so-called Gen X. We balked big time. What's Obama going to do to me? Give me free health insurance? Puh-leeze.
Remember the lessons of JFK. Republicans get tax breaks as long as minorities hold the “executive” office. It is the states that run everything, the states!
Commence Operation Blanket Salamander and just give us one big red state in the shape of a salamander where you can buy any gun you want. Unleash those cloned dinosaurs from 60 minutes between the Rockies and the Mississippi and start busing in violent criminals who don't get guns. Call it:

There are several facets of this that deserve further thought.
First, the Left is not being “given credit” in an important sense: Despite all the evidence available, we aren't willing to infer its true motives. We continue to postulate that the Left is well-meaning but misguided. This is emphatically not the case.
Second, many leftist initiatives of the past year have a common theme: irreversibility. Mark Steyn has written on this subject, with particular attention to the irreversibility of nationalized health care. An irreversibly larger State is a larger bastion for statists.
Third, the weakening of America's defenses, both on the national (armed services, intelligence, etc.) and individual (gun rights) levels, has as its all too obvious aim the creation of a more fearful citizenry — because fearful people are more easily subjugated and ruled.
I could go on, but I think the point is made.
I agree. They do not have good intentions. Radicals are bent on destruction not creation and prosperity. There is only a desire to SMASH SMASH SMASH BASH DESTROY, it doesnt matter who gets hurt or what the outcome is. Their aim is a “fun society” where smashing, bashing, stealing, raping, murdering, etc… are accepted lifestyles. We are in the stranglehold of a youth movement which places “fun society” as a one and only goal.
American youth are the engine of the left. The democratic party knows full well that anarcho communist policies will forever be supported by youth looking to SMASH IT ALL UP. They wish to be in charge rather than start on the bottom as previous generations did.
Our gun rights and our military are in the way of their democratic “fun society”. The military respects good order and guards the ideals of the true state, the constitutional republic. Gun owners can defend themselves from mobs of radicals seeking “social justice”, this mob of course thinks the individual should have no means to repel them. I certainly hope most of you have a means of defense as I see the left making more and more bold moves toward their anarchistic “fun society” of entitlement, freedom from laws, and mob rule.Many are seeing the hell coming our way, now a box of bullets that used to sell for 15.00 sells for 60.00 after a long wait period on backorder. Handloaders are now discovering that it takes an act of god to find overpriced primers. Popular firearms are flying off the shelves for as much as 4 times what they costed 2 years ago. Yes America something is going down.

I'm not sure if that's your thing, Mr Prager, but it's a note I keep hearing and I want to draw a distinction. We're all smelling something very strong in the air here, but too often romping down the wrong trail. Let's take another whiff and look a little harder into the deep, dark woods.
Not only is America seeing Twiddly Dee of the Democratic far left on plain display, but the mask has slipped a bit on Twiddly Dum of the Republican lip-service “conservative” scam.
At least we can lend some scant respect to lefties. Their lies have become transparent rituals, as if expected sacrifices to their obvious God of Greater Government. They're not really even trying to fool us any more about their intentions. It's ALMOST honest?!?!
I'll be happy when the Republican Party has been as thoroughly exposed, and we ARE getting there. What good is really happening when the opposition to the party of Big Gov Straight Up is merely the party of Little Gov Liars.
I love George Bush. But in so many ways he simply set the table for Obama. He didn't GET what Reagan was saying any more than his father and for that we are paying a terrible price. Men who do not stand on the bedrock of conservative principals WILL be surrounded by opportunists.
When a genuinely conservative movement sees the Republican Party for the lying, cheating Lout that it has become, and gets a divorce, it can stop “socializing” with it and keep it all to business, just business, and then only when it concerns the well-being of the children, Freedom, Faith and Country.
The REAL silver lining is the growth of unaffiliated Independent Voters.
It isn't quite communist yet. Until then they tolerate each other. They will either clash (more likely) or come to a workable agreement.
NATIONAL SHOCK TREATMENT
The worsening disaster of the Obama administration is SHOCK TREATMENT FOR OUR WAR WEARY, BRAIN DEAD, MORALLY WEAK NATION. Obamunism means the massive failure of big government liberalism and anti-American exceptionalism; it is a painful and much needed lesson in the insanity of secular progressivism and radical left wing politics; in political correctness, appeasement and socialist economics.
In everything that happens there is always something good. The catastrophe of the Obama years is midwifing a rebirth of freedom, religion, supply side capitalism and the Reagan Republican Right. Shock it to us Obama! Do everything wrong with your wrecking ball to alarm America awaken it and push it to the Right. Your lessons will be remembered for generations to come.

Our foreign policy is a confused mess. Our treasury is bankrupt. We are trillions in debt. Over ten states, including California are on the brink of financial collapse. Millions of homes are in foreclosure. Unemployment is at Depression levels. But the propaganda mills of CNN, MSNBC keep churning out the liberal spin….how long can this last? People see through it now.
This is a good recommendation for those of us who have been watching this stuff with dread for years to calm down while so many of our erstwhile apolitical or even Left-leaning friends are getting ginned up. I am astonished at the speed of the turnaround. My Gadsden duds draw handshakes and warm wishes from every corner and also every race. You wouldn't know it from the news but the public mind is utterly aghast at Obamism. l have seen common sense be drummed by reality into noggins that I would have sworn could not support it. I'm not saying don't agitate and I'm sure not saying shut up but we are at something of an inversion of that old gag, when you're in a hole, stop digging. We are gazing down 40 feet to a diminishing army of Dems who are digging their way to China in so many senses. When will they stop? Never, ideologically. Only real world repurcussions will end the excavation. What is important now is to keep Reps from their instincts to help their buddies. Seriously, that is the greatest danger but even McCain, holy jeez, seems to have had enough.

Just because some people are starting to wake up doesn't mean that we have the means to win the war against the rapidly declining society here. The problem still is that most people are only concerned with their own little worlds. They care more about Brad Pitt, Kanye West and other stupid celebrities than they do about the fate of this nation. I try to maintain hope and I spend all my time and effort trying to educate people, but sometimes I feel like I am not tilting at windmills, but rather I feel like I am trying to win a sword fight against the Pacific Ocean!
At any rate, I pray that the American people will revolt against this abomination and take back the country.

I am a reformed liberal. Actually, I always considered myself independent (Voted for Reagan, Bush and Clinton) but I found myself opposed to many policies of the Bush administration and started shifting leftward. I would have voted for Hilary but Obama was too liberal for me. So, despite my misgivings at the time, I gave my vote to McCain. When Obama won the election, I did what I always do and threw my support behind the new President. After all, it's only fair to give him a chance. Well, almost a year later and I am completely disgusted. On foreign policy, he either naive or a traitor. His domestic policies are fiscally irresponsible. By next year, I may be voting a straight Republican ticket, someting I haven't done since 1984.
Dennis, you are sooooo right. I was hoping for Kerry to win in 2004 for this very reason, His loss allowed the Left to look even better in 2008. They are now ravaging the US even more than they could have with aq 2004 victory. But as you said and as I also predicted, it lays bare their false ideology. That is the only silver lining in this dark funnel cloud.. Had the Right won in 2008, the destruction the Left's inevitable 2012 victory would have brought us would be beyond imagination.
Our hope is in the Indepemdents. The Left will not admit responsibility and their committed following will vote for them again in 2012 no matter what. Then we need the Right to go back to its core values.

The Great Denouement
In another forum I penned the view that for President Barrack Obama the Great Denouement is coming.
From domestic policy to foreign policy Obama has followed the path of a self centered, incompetent ignoramus who indeed is narcissistic and thinks that his lack of experience and empty suited resume somehow allows him to make judgments on huge moral issues (abortion) and about major financial and managerial matters that would stump even the most tried on those subjects.
The Great Denouement is coming when this grand childish experiment will decidedly unravel to his detriment.
He may even be impeached for incompetence.
As I have already noted I am quite happy that Obama turned up on the scene as he with his disastrous liberal/socialist policies will stop the “one step forward , 2 step backwards” reality of conservative philosophy in which incrementally liberals has taken over your country.
Finally America will see that which is destroying the very character of what made you great. Hollywood, the state run main stream media, and the academic world are ALL on trial here and the Great Denouement will expose the rot for all to see.
