Thank you Mashua!!! I completed a study on FGM for my globalization and diversity graduate course and I told my classmates about your interview. They said they were shocked to know this exists in our world. How sad is it that religion is allowed to mistreat women so harshly or men who think they know what God wants for us. Christian religion states that a woman and man are one this means they are equal no matter what some extreme crazed so called Christians may think. God has no favorites and he loves both man and woman.

This is such a horrible custom. Its Satanic. There really needs to be a site with a message board with threads in order to talk and help. One thing I'm a little puzzeled about is the mentioning of Beyonce. I can't blame any country for not allowing an act like that. Beyonce is disgusting to say the least. Thanks so much, Lucy, for informing others of this and trying to help those who cannot help themselves. As for Beyonce, if she wants to strut her stuff there then she is responsible for the outcome.

This article addresses a very important and a very real issue, and I don't mean to sound critical here, but unfortunately this article provides the reader with no means to join in on the attack against FGM. The only thing that comes close to it is what.sponsoredgirls.com is trying to do. After visiting the site, my understanding of sponsoredgirls.com is that it is a network of sponsor parents that are combating FGM by threatening to pull the funding for their sponsored child. If FGM isn't sanctioned by the 3rd party organization that connects the children with their sponsor parents, they are going to cut off the child's vaccinations and health care. I'm sorry to say this but this is no way to combat this issue. We, the readers, need more. Otherwise this article is nothing more than glorified nagging.

I watched a movie of FGM and it is a sickening sight. How any person can advocate such a tortuous ritual is beyond my comprehension. I truly admire Lucy Mashua and I sincerely wish her the best in the struggle ahead.
