Gandhi vs Limbaugh: Spot the Real Racist

Rush Limbaugh sleeps with naked teenaged girls, is obsessed with enemas, and once stated that blacks “pass their lives in indolence and nakedness.”
Wait. Did I say Rush Limbaugh? I meant Gandhi.
Reading “The Gandhi Nobody Knows” was a major milestone on my journey out of the Left. Richard Grenier’s seminal 1983 Commentary article inspired me to wonder what and who else I’d been lied to about.
Alas, I’ve come to suspect I’ll live to see the day we learn that the Scottsboro Boys were guilty.
Now, let’s assume for the sake of argument that the word “racist” even retains a fragment of its original power and meaning (that is, that is means more than just “a conservative who is winning an fight with a liberal”).
On the other hand, no one has ever disputed that these comments made by leftwing pacifist hero Gandhi are authentic:
Europeans sought to degrade Indians to the level of the “raw kaffir, whose occupation is hunting and whose sole ambition is to collect a certain number of cattle to buy a wife with, and then pass his life in indolence and nakedness”.
“Many of the native prisoners are only one degree removed from the animal and often created rows and fought among themselves.”
These are just two devastating comments made by Gandhi about blacks in South Africa, where Gandhi worked as an attorney and began his career as a non-violent activist. (In the arbitrary hierarchy of Boer racist “theory”, Indians like Gandhi were considered inferior to whites, but superior to native Africans.)
Given Gandhi’s predilection for wearing a loincloth and sitting cross-legged at a superfluous spinning wheel for hours on end, his comments about “indolence and nakedness” are particularly ironic.
Gandhi’s highly public poverty poseur-y required complex security and logistical arrangements. His loyal follower Sarojini Naidu once quipped that “it took a fortune to keep Gandhi in poverty.”
(One is reminded of a psychiatrist’s withering analysis of spiritual guru Thomas Merton, the Cistercian monk and peace activist who expressed his great admiration for Gandhi in his popular and prodigious writings: “You want to be a monk. A monk sitting in the middle of Times Square beneath a big flashing neon sign that says ‘MONK!’”.)
But there’s more. Gandhi advised the Jews to allow themselves to be mass-murdered by Hitler, in order to cleanse their karma, and the world’s. He said that had rebellious Indians had access to the atomic bomb, they would have used it against the British. Other bizarre statements are easy to find.
And yet, Rush Limbaugh is one of the left’s biggest bogeymen, a broadcaster they remain determined to remove from the airwaves despite previous vain attempts to do so.
Just another example of the utter incoherence, hypocrisy and moral vacuity of the post-modern progressive movement.
