It was thought that this would be a deterrent. If Iran launched a missile toward any allies, it would be shot down. The reprisals would be devastating. This strategy assumed that the Iranian missiles could only reach Israel so we were willing to take a chance. But now it appears that the iranians are developing missiles that might reach America. This puts the former strategy in question and calls for a rethinking of the way to proceed. Germany had not been shelled by the Poles for 8 years beforehand. There are almost no Israelis who have not lost loved ones or near locations of terrorist bombings or shellings.
