Bill Gates is the world’s richest person, but what kind of power does he have over you? Can he force your kid to go to a school you do not want him to attend? Can he deny you the right to braid hair in your home for a living? It turns out that a local politician, who might deny us the right to earn a living and dictates which school our kid attends, has far greater power over our lives than any rich person. Rich people can gain power over us, but to do so, they must get permission from our elected representatives at the federal, state or local levels. For example, I might wish to purchase sugar from a Caribbean producer, but America’s sugar lobby pays congressmen hundreds of thousands of dollars in campaign contributions to impose sugar import tariffs and quotas, forcing me and every other American to purchase their more expensive sugar.
Politicians love pitting us against the rich. All by themselves, the rich have absolutely no power over us. To rip us off, they need the might of Congress to rig the economic game. It’s a slick political sleight-of-hand where politicians and their allies amongst the intellectuals, talking heads and the news media get us caught up in the politics of envy as part of their agenda for greater control over our lives.
The sugar lobby is just one example among thousands. Just ask yourself: Who were the major recipients of the billions of taxpayer bailout dollars, the so-called Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP)? The top recipients of TARP handouts included companies such as Citibank, AIG, Goldman Sachs and General Motors. Their top management are paid tens of millions dollars to run companies that were on the verge of bankruptcy, were it not for billions of dollars in taxpayer money. Politicians preach the politics of envy whilst reaching into the ordinary man’s pockets, through the IRS, and handing it over to their favorite rich people and others who make large contributions to their election efforts.
The bottom line is that it is politicians first and their supporters amongst intellectuals who pose the greatest threat to liberty.
Dr. Thomas Sowell amply demonstrates this in his brand-new book, “Intellectuals and Society,” in which he points out that: “Scarcely a mass-murdering dictator of the twentieth century was without his intellectual supporters, not simply in his own country, but also in foreign democracies … Lenin, Stalin, Mao and Hitler all had their admirers, defenders and apologists among the intelligentsia in Western democratic nations, despite the fact that these dictators each ended up killing people of their own country on a scale unprecedented even by despotic regimes that preceded them.”
While American politicians and intellectuals have not reached the depths of tyrants such as Lenin, Stalin, Mao and Hitler, they share a common vision. Tyrants denounce free markets and voluntary exchange. They are the chief supporters of reduced private property rights, reduced rights to profits, and they are anti-competition and pro-monopoly. They are pro-control and coercion, by the state. These Americans who run Washington, and their intellectual supporters, believe they have superior wisdom and greater intelligence than the masses. They believe they have been ordained to forcibly impose that wisdom on the rest of us. Like any other tyrant, they have what they consider good reasons for restricting the freedom of others. A tyrant’s primary agenda calls for the elimination or attenuation of the market. Why? Markets imply voluntary exchange and tyrants do not trust that people behaving voluntarily will do what the tyrant thinks they should do. Therefore, they seek to replace the market with economic planning and regulation, which is little more than the forcible superseding of other people’s plans by the powerful elite.
We Americans have forgotten founder Thomas Paine’s warning that “Government, even in its best state, is but a necessary evil; in its worst state, an intolerable one.”

Organized CRIME: The 'looting' of $11 TRILLION from the U.S. economy
March 5, 2010
The following is based on a report by Cliff Kincaid for Accuracy in Media.
Zubi Diamond, author of the powerful new book, Wizards of Wall Street, says the agenda of Soros and other short sellers is clear. Their purpose, he says, is “to loot America and any foreign country which invested in America. Greece was one of them. Iceland was ravaged and annihilated.”
The economic crisis was deliberately engineered for profit and political gain and has already resulted in the “looting” of $11 trillion from the U.S. economy…The Managed Funds Association, the lobbying arm of the hedge fund short sellers, is crafty and deceitful.
“The most influential members of Managed Funds Association, the hedge fund short sellers, have an anti-capitalism agenda, an anti-industrialized nation agenda, and a far left liberal, Marxist radical agenda,” Diamond says.” Hedge Fund short sellers are not capitalist. They are anti-capitalist and they are not investors; they are anti-investors.” He says they “loot” companies and countries.
…“George Soros put the support of the organization [the MFA] behind Obama,” his book says. “Soros wanted somebody that hates the traditional America and its constitution, a left-wing radical like himself, so he chose Obama.”
“Nothing will happen until the American people know what caused the economic crisis and the solution for fixing it,” he tells AIM. “Nothing will happen until the American people know about the Managed Funds Association and their role in engineering the economic collapse.” He calls the MFA “the cancer in our society that needs to be cut out, exterminated and abolished. America and capitalism will not survive unless the Managed Funds Association is eradicated, uprooted and destroyed.”
Diamond notes that Soros is a member of the Managed Funds Association, and they are “making negative comments about the Euro. They are targeting and preying on capitalist countries and currencies.”
He goes on, “They feel invincible. They have a license to destroy any company or country or hold the company or country hostage while preying on the investors. They are having dinner meetings, openly discussing collusion to attack a particular asset class, equity, or a country’s currency. If this is not organized crime, I do not know what is.”
He warns that any asset class that is traded in the NYSE, CME, or EUREX exchanges is susceptible to manipulation by the members of Managed Funds Association and their strategic partners. “They have primed the market for manipulation,” he says.
In the case of Greece, Diamond says that the country “gathered all her nest eggs and brought it to the wolves’ den at Goldman Sachs,” a member of Managed Funds Association, “but Goldman Sachs then shorted the market while their clients were on the other side of the trade.”
Diamond says there would not have been a Greece debt crisis if all the safeguard regulations had not been removed. He blames Christopher Cox, who served as chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), for laying the groundwork for this financial upheaval.
…“The Managed Fund Association is the government,” Diamond charges. “They bought the policy makers and regulators, and then took over our government.”

What is the purpose of Obama's Civilian National Security Force?
Obama: "We cannot continue to rely on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives we've set. We've got to have a civilian national security force that's just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded."

There is a distinctively American tradition that distrusts the intellect. This is not a good thing. This tradition drew its power from the three great shaping forces of American culture: religion, commerce, and progressive education. American-style Protestantism theology valued emotion over reason and logic. American commerce disparaged abstract analysis in favor of practical experience. And American liberals demanded an education system that nurtured the less able rather than challenging the most brilliant to attain excellence.
As a result the study of philosophy, the mother of all sciences in the Universities, was left to the decadent Europeans who were anti American statists who turned out their street soldiers to reform America ever since the New Deal.
I love this…it's like transplanting the rage when Bush was in office to today…or at least a ham-handed attempt to do so.
"For example, I might wish to purchase sugar from a Caribbean producer, but America’s sugar lobby pays congressmen hundreds of thousands of dollars in campaign contributions to impose sugar import tariffs and quotas, forcing me and every other American to purchase their more expensive sugar."
Yeah, that's right….and it's these tariffs and other mechanisms that keep our industries stronger and offer our workers a higher standard of living than and third world country. FPM writers have some strange disease called conditional libertarianism….whenever their boys aren't in power, the government shouldn't do anything. Keep me from buying sugar from Cuba…sure that's perfectly fine…but impose a tariff on sugar from non-American companies outside the United States so it isn't a 3rd of the price of American sugar…oh that's evil…today anyway. It's "conditional" libertarianism because it's mostly disingenious and it changes from day to day.
Thats why I am sick of both sides. Clean em all out and lets start from scratch.
The Dems do the same thing bubba and you know it.
Hey, if you're for just clearing out Congress…I know some former Republican officials and lobbyists running various organizations that are trying to do just that.
I'm not sure what you mean by "the dems do the same thing". What are you talking about?
The idea that government is inheriently corrupt and anyone that goes into public service does it to have power over people and would turn into an evil tyrant if given the chance….that is an idea straight from the bizarro world. FPM was all too happy bestow the government with whatever powers it needed during Bush….strangely since Obama's election, government itself is to be dispised as worthless and corrupt.
