Fox News reports that ‘Democratic governors expressed “grave” concerns to White House officials this weekend about the Obama administration’s suit against Arizona’s new immigration law.’ They warned him that it ‘could cost the party in crucial elections this fall.’
The closed door meeting in which it became clear that Democratic governors are about to rebel took place at the National Governors Association in Boston on Saturday.
“Universally the governors are saying, ‘We’ve got to talk about jobs, and all of a sudden we have immigration going on,’” Gov. Phil Bredesen of Tennessee, a Democrat, said. “It is such a toxic subject, such an important time for Democrats.”
Gov. Bill Ritter Jr. of Colorado, another Democrats, also expressed concern. “I might have chosen both a different tack and a different time. This is an issue that divides us politically, and I’m hopeful that their strategy doesn’t do that in a way that makes it more difficult for candidates to get elected, particularly in the West.”
If this doesn’t boost Arizona Governor Jan Brewer’s morale, I don’t know what will. Not only do Arizonans and the American people in general support her, Obama’s own governors – his supposed allies – do so as well.
The only ones who believe the White House is right to sue Arizona for passing an anti-illegal immigration bill are members of the Obama administration. Everybody else is perfectly fine with the bill as it stands. Borders need to be secured. If the federal government fails to live up to its responsibilities, individual states have to deal with the problem themselves. It’s perfectly logical, everybody understands it, including Democratic governors, except for Obama and his lackeys in Washington.
