What a difference a riot can make.
The three nights of armed mayhem in a Muslim quarter of Grenoble in July that saw numerous cars burned, police officers fired upon and their families threatened has ignited an unexpected and energetic response from France’s politicians. In what may be the last chance to halt France’s slide into anarchy as well as an indication of how endangered the French social order is, the country’s center-right ruling party, the Union pour un Mouvement Populaire (Union for a Popular Movement (UMP)), is set to introduce two constitutional amendments into the National Assembly next month to deal with the country’s deteriorating social situation. Both concern cancelling French citizenship for convicted criminals.
France’s immigration minister, Eric Besson, the person responsible for drafting the amendments, said revoking French citizenship is not anti-constitutional and therefore will receive clearance from France’s constitutional council. The forfeiture of French nationality, Besson says, currently exists in France, but only for convictions for serious offences like terrorism and espionage. Before 1998, however, it was allowed under common law “for a certain number of crimes.”
“It is relatively simple,” said Besson. “It suffices to return to the law that prevailed until 1998. That is not anti-constitutional.”
The first proposed constitutional amendment concerns stripping criminals of foreign origin who receive more than a five-year prison sentence of their French citizenship. This new measure would only occur if the crime was committed during the first ten years after naturalization.
The second amendment allows the immigration minister to prevent young criminal delinquents, born in France of immigrant parents, from automatically acquiring French citizenship. Besson said he had already prevented people from gaining French nationality many times since becoming immigration minister, but only in cases concerning foreigners who “impose the veil on their wife, refuse to shake the hand of female government officials” and “refuse the principle of laicism.”
“I have forbidden access to French nationality to many foreigners who have no respect for our fundamental republican values,” said Besson.
French President Nicolas Sarkozy signalled the government’s tough, new stance in late July when visiting Grenoble in south-eastern France, the scene of the armed violence. Announcing an “implacable struggle, a war” against crime, Sarkozy said French nationality should be stripped “from anybody who has threatened the life of a police officer or anybody involved in public policing.”
French Interior Minister Brice Hortefeux reinforced the government’s determination when he announced this month another “shock measure.” But in doing so, Hortefeux went further than either Sarkozy or Besson, when he said there were also “possibilities to have nationality withdrawn” for “polygamy, genital mutilation and serious wrongdoing”, indicating the new hard-line is as much about preventing further damage to France’s tattered social fabric, primarily by Muslim immigrants, as it is about security.
Hortefeux further jolted listeners when he said the revoking of citizenship in such cases will apply not only to recently arrived immigrants but also to anyone born in France of an immigrant background. With this statement, the French government clearly is drawing a line in the sand concerning French values, warning potential transgressors they will have to adhere to them or leave.

Barbarism should never have had appeal for the Left
The Left’s position in this terror war is a shameless one and it is nothing new from the way the Left behaved vis-à-vis the communist monsters of the 20th century. The Left should have learnt its lessons in 1979 when the Ayatollah Khomeini slaughtered almost 50,000 Iranian comrades of various left factions ranging from communist to social democrats. They were wiped out. Today the stalwarts of the Left who choose to live in the comfortable West that they hate, march in solidarity with Gaza, with the despotic Ahmedinejad and the Islamofacsist Nasrallah of Hezbollah. This development is spectacular – maybe we will finally find a way to turn around this disaster we have inflicted on Europe!
I believe ending citizenship is the only way, as it is these immigrants' only interest in Europe: access to the material wealth and safety. The kind of prison terms needed to get an effect would take years to implement and would take massive tax-hikes to finance – and sadly these communities would still produce new criminals in thousands. If the measure is introduced now we can always expand the crimes that will lead to de-nationalization later.
No-one wants to see ethnic cleansing, forcing people out in masses – it is barbaric, indiscriminate, horrid – but if strong alternative measures are not introduced, I too fear it could come to this. We are so tired of this situation here in Europe. I meet strangers on the train, in the supermarket who spontaneously burst out in anger over the treatment we suffer. The amount of money we pour into fixing, policing and supporting these banlieus has only the effect of making them hate us even more – and it could be put to so much better use.
I hope so much that you Americans find a way to prevent the same sad situation developing in your great nation! (if for no other reason…we might need a place to run to….uuuuh!)
Fabulous post, Johane! You can come here if it goes completely to hell there. We in the West have been very stupid, especially since WWII.
Thank you …but I'm not sure you have room for 400 million+ Europeans
…we'll all sneak in as tourist and overstay our vias….tihi
The French-the FRENCH of all people-are showing more stones than Americans on dealing with these sorts of problems. Sad, sad day.
As a french :
1) All this is pure BS, I repeat, pure, unadulterated BS… the 2012 elections are fast approaching, and goode olde sarko knows that if he's to stand any chance of being re-elected after reneging on all of his promises and showing how much of an empty suit he really is… he needs to go "back" to his 2007 platform, "tough on crime" & reform", IE "Hope & change".
Sounds familiar?
Those last three years have been marked by a spiralling down of the economy (no reform whatsoever, excpet at the margins, inheritance and such), an acceleration of societal decay (crime, frenchifada… but, then again, why people should expect sarko to be more efficient now that when he was a do-nothing, CYA interior minsiter, who ordered cops not to shoot back when fired upon during the 2005 riots???), and an increase and ACCELERATION of both immigration (France is now flooded with subsaharan black africans, who are even displacing the north african arabs, how funny) & mass islamization (hey, eric besson.the socialist – sarko has filled his gvt with leftists & affirmative action "visible minorities" ministers – is going to convert to islam ina couple months, when he'll marry his tunisian sweetheart)…
Far from being a "conservative", though he ran as one, and is still being decried as one by the MSM & the left (but it's all kabuki), sarko is all BS, and no acting. Zero, nada, niclh, nothing. What's happening theses days is a "crackdown" on roms (IE gypsy illegals from Romania, nothing more, with the left & the chirac-ists foaming at the mouth & comparing it to WWII… but, it's just a tactical, PR move, to re-affirm his "tough on crime credits, which IMHO won't work too well, even his about 70% of french approve of booting as roms as possible out of the country despite the ongoing psychodrama… this is why the next frenhc president will be most likely a socilaist one, which will even further the death spiral of the country, how nice).
This always cracks me up when I read crap like that form foreign sources, cultural distance I guess.
2) "The French-the FRENCH of all people"… ah, the all-too common french bashing, al ready to surface back at the first occasion. Cowards, wusses, pussies… I actually fell for that back in 2003 and later, felt bad about my country, but, looking back in hindsight (BARAK HUSSEIN OBAMA!!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME??????), what a fool I've been., what a joke… Cheese eating surrendering monkeys, my hairy gallic a**!
I really, really, can't stand that "ugly american" chest beating : clean your house first, really, and, then, you'll have some right to pass judgements on me, my family, my people, our History… with each passing day, I feel more and more like i've been wrong siding with you, you gained nothing, you folded just like the rest and sometimes even more (mo cartoons, hello? WTC mosque, hello? OBAMA, hello?), and you keep up with that crap about french, about europeans (excuse me, "euros"),… Betrayal.
Oh, well.
And, no, I'm not a french moonbat, just a random wingnut who's pretty disgusted by what's happening to his country, to Europe, to the West and to the white race more generally.
So, keep your (phony WWII-based) sterotypes for yourselves, dear american friends (I'm sincere here), and start acknowledging and dealing with your own problems, instead of regurgitating pop-culture crap -damn each time I read some random, low-key comment like that one, it really burns, especially now, kicking someone down, great, classy.
Ok, end of rant, and of to bed.
Comments from the Obama administration? (Crickets chirping)
The sentence: "If anything, the values of a criminal culture with an Islamic identity, or of outright Muslim fundamentalism, have filled the vacuum.", doesn't make sense. To me, this implies that something else happened, and the muslims were there to fill the alleged void. but we all know that it 's the muslims all along that are the problem. Anyways, better late than never for France. To see our own future, it is said that we need only look to Europe and Great Britain. It would behoove us to follow their lead BEFORE the disease spreads as far as it has in France and other places.
Eventually it will come down to a matter of France becoming a Sharia state or mass deportations and expulsions, because the Muslims will never assimilate and integrate, since Muslims don’t immigrate to assimilate and integrate, they immigrate instead to one day dominate and subjugate.
Again, I repeat ad nauseum, during the Cold War we didn’t let millions of communists immigrate and infiltrate our countries because that would have been suicidal. Hence, we shouldn’t let millions of Muslims immigrate and infiltrate our countries today because it is likewise suicidal. We are in the midst of a clash of civilizations, one that believes in freedom, liberty, and the unalienable rights of man, and the other that is very totalitarian and scoffs at freedom as being un-Islamic, and it is a clash to the end.
It seems that every country's second amendment is being re-interpreted: In the US, the left believes in "the right to arm bears" and in France, "open broders" etc…
Maybe the 2nd amendment bad luck spot should be left vacant and we should upshift and start with the 3rd amendment onwards…
It is too late for France. Nothing works anymore, they need new and innovative solutions:
Here's my suggestion:
Give Le Southern half of Le Country to the Muslims ( just as Muslim Supremacists have always demanded it "back"— they own most of it already anyway), move everything French- people, buildings, art, food etc- to the remaining sector (perhaps call it Vichy- Nord) and then, when they come for the Vichy-Nord sector, just e-mail the Americans for help !!! Just do this before Britain goes Islamic, otherwise the Americans won't have a jumping board like last time !!!! Bon Chance !
