The Ground Zero Mosque’s Conservative Supporter

Posted by Bio ↓ on Aug 23rd, 2010 Comments ↓

Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf and proponents of his plan to build a 13-story Islamic center near Ground Zero are now being helped by Grover Norquist, President of Americans for Tax Reform and conservative Republican activist. Norquist and his associates are calling on the Republican Party to drop its opposition to the plan, arguing that the GOP is threatening the rights of Muslims and that its criticism will backfire politically.

Norquist and his friends are distributing a letter saying that the Republicans fighting Imam Rauf’s plan are infringing upon religious freedom and are “alienating millions of Arab American and Muslim American voters who believe, as we do, in the principles of our party—individual liberty, traditional values, and the rule of law.”

Among those signing the letter are Suhail A. Khan, listed as the Chairman of the Conservative Inclusion Coalition and Norquist’s wife, Samah, listed as a Senior Advisor to Arab and Muslim Outreach for the U.S. Agency for International Development under the Bush Administration.

Norquist is trying to convince Republicans that attacking Rauf’s plan will cost them in the November elections, even though nearly 70 percent of Americans agree with them. He describes it as a “distraction” that will cause the party to lose support among non-Christians.

“You’re not just going to lose Muslim votes. You’re going to lose Jewish votes, Indian votes, Buddhist votes. Every member of a minority group looks at a situation like this and says, oh, the people hitting this minority will eventually start hitting me,” he said.

Norquist’s criticism gives the impression that a fissure exists in the Republican ranks and helps frame the critics of the project as simply being against permitting the practicing of Islam. Yet again, Norquist has aligned himself with the Muslim Brotherhood network in the U.S. that is supporting Imam Rauf and accusing his opponents of having “Islamophobia” and having an anti-Muslim bias.

To understand Norquist’s role in the campaign to aid Rauf, we must look at his history. He founded the Islamic Free Market Institute in 1998 with financing from Abdulrahman Alamoudi, a Brotherhood activist supportive of Hamas and Hezbollah that was later convicted on terrorism-related charges. Norquist’s group was also funded by the International Institute of Islamic Thought, listed as a front in the Brotherhood’s own documents.

Using his connections in the conservative movement, Norquist was able to help his Brotherhood associates develop a relationship with the Bush Administration, particularly after the attacks of September 11 when the government sought to assure the American-Muslim community that the war on terror was not a war on Islam. In November 2001, John Zogby said Norquist was “central to the White House outreach.”

Norquist is likely a convert to Islam himself. His wife, Samah, is a devout Muslim and it is unthinkable that she would marry a non-Muslim if she takes her faith seriously. In 2008, they adopted a baby from the now-Muslim city of Bethlehem. When Norquist was asked by Paul Sperry if he had converted to Islam, he said it was “personal” and left it at that.

We are told that there is a difference between extremist Islam and peaceloving normal Islam.
Judging by their behavior, Muslims are anti-West, anti-Democracy, anti-Christian, anti-Jewish, anti-Buddhist, and anti-Hindu. Muslims are involved in 25 of some 30 conflicts going on in the world: in Afghanistan, Algeria, Bangladesh, Bosnia, Congo, Cote d’Ivoire, Cyprus, East Timor, India, Indonesia (2 provinces), Kashmir, Kazakastan, Kosovo, Kurdistan, Macedonia, the Middle East, Nigeria, Pakistan, Philippines, Somalia, Sudan, Russia-Chechnya, Tajikistan, Thailand, Uganda and Uzbekistan. Doesn’t this mean that extremist Islam is the norm and normal Islam is extremely rare? More at : http://israelagainstterror.blogspot.com/2007/12/f…

I think Grover believes we have lost our minds and will
believe his nonsense. If anything is lost here it should
be Grover Norquist, obviously a bought and paid for
voice of Islam, you may think nasty thoughts about this
dolt..Grover Norquist is a —- —-, fill in the blanks

Norquist is a wolf in sheep clothing !!! Perhaps someone should follow the money.

  4. WildJew says:

Republicans who do not take a stand against this triumphal mosque at Ground Zero risk losing my vote. I have no respect for a wimpy Republican.

A good blog on this subject- -http://ampatriot.blogspot.com/

  6. Buck Rogers says:

I'd say take a page from Nancy Pelosi's "Prozack Moments" playbook and follow the money. Find out who's funding Norquist…. or no? He certainly does not speak for Conservative Christian Americans. He should own up to his true alliances, and quit posing as a Conservative Christian.

  7. Kim Bruce says:

It sounds to me like Norquist is part and parcel of the "Islamic Fifth Column"

  8. darkmorrow says:

I'd give more credibility to Grover from Sesame Street. Indeed Norquist hangs out with real monsters. Heres another little known fact about Conservatives. We have the ability to think for ourselves, to understand consequences of action, and seek truth regardless of where it hides or is hidden.

  9. kafir4life says:

Daisy, Daisy, we know the answer true.
You're full crazy, you just want to kill some Jews…….
You won't have an Aisha marriage,
you can't fit inside her carriage.
    But you'll look sweet
    when you take the street,
when mohammad says kill some Jews.

Respect is earned, not demanded. muslims demand, they don't earn or deserve. When muslims show respect for others, maybe we'll see less mad mo the pedophile "prophet" wearing a bomb turban……..

But…..not to worry muslims! The backlash you keep claiming will never happen. we don't behave like muslims, so you're safe.

  10. John B says:

Norquist is misrepresented as a "conservative." A desire to reform our hideous tax code does not translate into conservativism. Any idoiot can recognize our tax code for what it is. No conservative would sell out to Sharia and the Muslim Brotherhood with one hand and preach tolerance with the other, as has Norquist. Tolerance, all too often, is a virtue for those with little or no convictions. The 911 mosque has unmistakable ties to Sharia. Norquist must know this. He wraps his argument with our Constitution like one would wrap dog poop with a newspaper. Shame on him!

  11. Yitzy says:

I don't understand something. I keep reading that "70 percent of American don't want the mosque there", so basically it will not back-fire on the Republicans if they fight the building of the Mosque. But I saw that poll in the paper as well, and right next to where it said that a large percentage of Americans are against the mosque, it listed another percentage. Roughly the same percent of Americans believe that, although they are personally against building the Mosque, they still believe that the Muslims have the Constitutional right to build it.

    • DeclareTruth says:

American wimpism – bound to get us all killed. It's that "tolerance" BS that kids have been taught in government schools for the last two or three decades. It has produced a generation of people who think it's honorable to go against what is obviously good for them and their country and it's a highly praised thing to put the "world community" ahead of ourselves. People just don't seem to "get it" that if you give constitutional rights to people who don't believe in the Constitution, when they get power NOBODY will have constitutional rights. Duh!!! Wake up America, they are using our goodness to destroy our goodness!!

    • Neil says:

Yitzy, It's so, so simple. It's the location of the proposed mosque, not a question whether it's okay to build a mosque. Even Harry Reid, former governor Dean and our Moslem Miss America get it.

  12. jbtrevor says:

David Horowitz's harsh words for Mr. Norquist at Restoration Weekend a few yrs ago now make sense to me, thanks.

  13. Mach1Duck says:

The mosque if built should be designated the Amina and Sarah Said memorial mosque to honor the two young women killed by their Egyptian father for being to western. The entrance to the mosque designated as the Rifqa Bary gate, you can go in but not out. The gymnasium the Zahra Kazemi dedicated to the Canadian/Iranian journalist that died in custody at Evan prison, Iran. The roof of the mosque as the Sckienhy Mohammadi Ashtiani after the Iranian lady sentenced to stoning, where all good Muslims can lob rocks and passersbys down below.
The parking lot of course would be designated Noor Almalaki for the young lady ran down by her father in Phoenix for not cow-towing to his wishes. And I am sure floors and rooms can be found to honor Gulsum Semin and Banaz Mahmood and all the victims at Fort Hood, Texas. The street outside the mosque needs to be renamed the Coptic way. It would also be nice if they built a Greek Orthodox church of 15 stories across the street.

  14. Cheryl says:

Just like Obama. A person can say they are this or that but its their actions/ reactions that tell us who they really are.

  15. antifascist18 says:

It is time we not only stopped calling this fraud Norquist a "Conservative" but also kicked the RINO out of the Republican Party along with his fellow Arab-paid stooges like Baker, Scowcroft, Lugar, Hagel, and yes, Ron Paul too. Honestly they can no longer be equivocal on this or on appeasement the terror world and remain in a party that stands up for Freedom and for confronting terrorism.

Norquist joined the Democrats all but in name only years ago when he received his first Saudi paycheck. He's not one of us and he should be kicked out of all future Conservative and Tea Party conventions if he insists on being a dung eater aka Moslem apologist.

  16. Jaladhi says:

What a liar – he says Republican party will lose Indian and Buddhists if they opposed building of this mosque. I tell you this guy has no idea what is talking about. Indian Hindus and Buddhists solidly oppose this atrocity on Ground Zero and as such they will support Republicans on this issue.

This is not a Republican or Democrat issue – it is an American issue. How can we allow the followers of Islam who massacred 3000 innocent Americans on this site. Now Muslims want to build a mosque over it in your face victory mosque over it!!! Typical Muslim behavior to desecrate hallowed grounds of others!!!

Muslims have done this all over India, razing and destroying Hindu, Jain, Sikh, Buddhists places of worship and building mosque over them with the same building material from the razed temples. So Indian Hindus know very well the Muslims and their atrocious behavior. Don't fall for this stupid guy's propaganda and oppose this mosque on GZ.

  17. Chezwick_Mac says:

NORQUIST: “You’re not just going to lose Muslim votes. You’re going to lose Jewish votes, Indian votes, Buddhist votes. Every member of a minority group looks at a situation like this and says, oh, the people hitting this minority will eventually start hitting me,”…

On the contrary, each one of the religious groups mentioned above has their own history of persecution at the hands of Muslims and are well aware of the intolerance and supremacism that define Islam. Buddhists saw what the Taliban did to the the ancient statues at Bimayin, Hindus must constantly endure terror attacks such as those that occurred in Mumbai, and Jews understand all too well through the experience of Israelis. There may be quite a few Jewish voters who support this mosque, but they are almost all Leftists who habitually vote Democratic.

American opposition to the GZ Mosque is both principled and strategic. It will HELP Republicans in November.

Grover Norquist knows this. His concerns are not based at all on electoral politics, they are based instead on his steadfast support for all things Islam since the day he married his Muslim wife. In case anyone didn't know it, Islamic law allows Muslim men to marry infidel women, but forbids Muslim women from marrying infidel men (another in a laundry list of discriminatory statutes against women in Islam).

So the question begs to be answered: Did Norquist convert to Islam in order to win her hand in marriage? He's strangely mum about his religion. If only he'd be similarly mum on sociological questions such as the GZ mosque. Stick to tax issues, Grover!

  18. Rybbe says:

Knowing Norquist's ties to Islamic money, does it really surprise anyone that he came out on the triumphals' side of the arguement? What is it with this guy? Does he still have that much conservative street cred that we still wring our hands when he speaks for his money people no matter what the subject at hand? This man has sold himself to the devil, nothing left to see here.

  19. Rbob says:

The Ku Klux Klan is considered by some a Christian group. The vast majority of Christians completely reject the Klan, and let it be known. The Muslim "extremists" are not rejected by the the majority of Muslims. In fact there was dancing in the streets in Arab areas after the 9/11 events. It is impossible to distinguish between the "peaceful" Muslims and those doing the killing. Tell us how we can do that if the "peaceful" don't condemn the killers?
Would it be suitable for the Ku Klux Klan to build a meeting hall across from a Martin Luther King memorial?

  20. faithiej says:

When are conservatives, particularly faith-based organizations in Washington, going to drop Grover Norquist?? Shame on conservative organizations that attend Grover's meetings because the food is good and "everyone goes." If nobody went, then "everyone goes" would not be true anymore.

  21. mary says:

Agree.Don´t vote for Grover. Find another candidate, othervise the GOP will lose in November., because most American are patriots and understand very well what will happen if they allow the mosque to be built
    Mary

  22. Seek says:

If Grover wants to live in an Islamic country, there are dozens available for resettlement. I would be delighted to pay his one-way air fare to the one of his choice.

Face it: He's been a paid shill for Muslim radicalism for a decade and perhaps longer. Check out, for example, his article in the June 2001 issue of The American Spectator — that's three months before the 9/11 attacks and years before his marriage — "explaining" how the Muslim vote gave Bush the margin of victory over Gore in 2000.

  23. Terence says:

Norquist says we will allienate millions of Muslims who believe like we do in individual
liberty, traditional values, and the rule of law.
Muslims do not believe in individual freedom & their traditional values involves wife beating, amputating limbs for theft, honor killing, beheading & it is OK to lie & decieve
    for the furtherance of Islam.
Norquest is obviously now a Muslim

  24. USMCSniper says:

Just another RINO dhimmi Muslim convert that wants the crocodile to eat him last.

  25. Chiggles says:

I wish there was a way to get Norquisling off the NRA board of directors.

  26. DeclareTruth says:

If Grover Norquist is a conservative, I'm King Kong!!! What a slimeball! It's people like him that think that if you make nice with the enemy they will have a change of heart and we'll all get a long. What an idiot!! You can't "get along" with people who want to kill you. Of course this guy's in bed with the enemy, literally. Oh I can hear the cries already, "it's not all the Muslims, just a few bad ones." OK then, answer me this: Why are the "good" ones not rising up and decrying this arrogant provocation? Well, why??? I personally think, if they indeed exist, they are afraid to say anything, because they know that Muslim law provides for them to be killed if they go against it. This tendency of wimpy Americans to roll over and play dead is likely to get us all ACTUALLY dead.

  27. traeh says:

Norquist's career as a Republican leader is doomed, let's hope. Let him find some other line of work.

  28. bkal says:

What they will say is it's about time someone stands up to the Muslim's. Let them show a little sympathy to the people of 9/11. I am tired of this becoming a religious battle. It is a common sense situation. The islamic teaching tell their followers to lie to anyone to defeat them. This is a religion of hate used to get to their own dominiation of other people and religions. Don't follow the fool Nordquist he is not a true conservative. He is a wolf in sheeps clothing.

  29. Andres de Alamaya says:

Mohammed didn't have petro-dollars with which to buy whores. He had to use the sword to spread his sick concepts. Today it is all baksheesh; the middle eastern bribe. Show me a supporter for that mosque and I'll show you a Muslim who is proud of 9/11 or a total moron or a man who has been bought. Norquist fits two categories. What I'm trying to figure out is: in which of these categories do Obama and Bloomberg fit?

  30. ObamaYoMoma says:

Grover Norquist is no longer an American, he is a traitor and a jihadists. Indeed, since it is forbidden for Muslim females to marry non-Muslim males, it means that Grover Norquist is a Muslim. He’s a leader of the stealth jihad in America and the amount of damage he’s inflicted on this country, per his undue influence over the previous administration, is a testament to his effectiveness. He should be deported from this country along with his Muslim brothers and sisters.

Moreover, Dr. Zuhdi Jasser and Stephen Schwartz are examples of assimilated Western Muslims who consider themselves as being devout Muslims. Indeed, they are no different than adherents of other faith-based religions and, of course, reject the jihad ideology, which is the sixth pillar of Islam. However, those two Muslims don’t practice the same true Islam that the vast overwhelming numbers of Muslims in the world practice and as a matter of fact both are considered to be apostates by true Muslims that should be executed. Hence, they shouldn’t even be considered to be true Muslims and the fact that they have spoken out of against the GZM is absolutely meaningless and inconsequential since they aren’t true Muslims. In fact, there religion shouldn’t even be mentioned when reporting that they have spoken out against the GZM because it isn’t new worthy since they don’t practice the same kind of true Islam that Imam Rauf practices.

  35. crypticguise says:

No it's not "personal" when you convert to a religious "cult" that thrives on intolerance and hatred of anyone not of that religios cult or persuasion.

  36. crypticguise says:

Islam is 15% religion and 85 percent political. Muslims who practice Islam can not be trusted as Allah and Mohammed preach that using "taqiyya", deception or lying, for the benefit of furthering jihad against kafirs (non-Muslims) is not only acceptable but GOOD.

There is no Golden Rule in Islam, and Muslims can NEVER be a friend of a kafir (non-Muslim. So lying and deception of non-Muslims is used to misrepresent what Islam is and professes. The goal of Islam and Muslims is to convert, by force if necessary (and it has always been necessary) to Islam.

In Islam, Muslims may murder, torture, rape, abuse and steal the wealth of kafirs (non-Muslims) without a sense of shame or consciensce. It is written in the Koran and the Sira. There is no word for conscience in Arabic.

  37. crypticguise says:

Sharia Law for the world is the goal of all who practice Islam, a Political System masquerading as a Religion. Islam is intolerant and hateful toward all kafirs (non-Muslims). It is written. Allah is all knowing and merciful (to Muslims).

Even the ludicrously hypocritical Islamic requirement of Muslims to Charity is Charity to ONLY Muslims. Allah despises, hates kafirs (non-Muslims). It is written. To read the Koran, Sira and Hadith is to understand the sociopathic Islamic way of life.

  38. Steph C says:

QUOTE: "“alienating millions of Arab American and Muslim American voters who believe, as we do, in the principles of our party—individual liberty, traditional values, and the rule of law.”"

The question are: Whose liberty, theirs or Muslims who don't ascribe to Sharia? Whose traditional values? and finally: Whose rule of law? Our Constitution or theirs imported from the Middle East?

Islam is not "just a religion". It's a whole system of governance, particularly the form of it, Wahabbi, that is being promoted along with this "cultural center." It would be like sanctioning a government within a government, or outside the government which the rest of us follow under the Constitution.

Not even the Native Americans on their reservations have that right. They may have their own elections, including a president, but they're still subject to the Constitution, especially when it comes to our basic rights endowed upon us by our Creator.

This mosk is not going to be built at GZ. It is an afront, a slap in the face and he can take his mosk and shove it, minerett first. Their intent is not healing. Their intent is in your face, like it or leave it, we burned you and here is our monument to victory.

Go ahead, try and build it. See what happens.

All you "moderate" muslims better stand up quick and be counted with us, otherwise your against us. Your welcome here, but we need some help and need to know you are compatriots.

    Hello America,

Grover Norquist is no Republican Conservative, he is a seditionist of the first order posing as First Amendment guy. Americans have voiced their opinion regard the 9.11 Mosque. Norquist has no voice in this issue. Republicans will gain traction on this issue, while Norquist eats pork with his Islamic friends.

    The Turban Torpedo

  44. Matthew Quigley says:

Norquist is a dhimmi, plain and simple. If he likes these individuals so much, let him emigrate to the mohammedan country of his choice. He is not, and never has been, a Conservative…and he should not be referred to as such.

  45. fmobler says:

People on the left used to call him a fascist. That always seemed like hyperbole to me — they like to call people fascists. But in his case, it seems they may have been right all along.
Norquist appears to have embraced the one remaining fascist ideology that continues to have its proponents. This may explain his earlier political trajectory.

    W. F. Buckley was instrumental in ridding the conservative movement of its fascists some two generations ago. He understood that an 'ally on issues' who, in fact, disagrees on foundational matters of liberty is not an ally in any way. He said good-riddance to the Birchers and (most of) the rest. But the remaining stragglers nowadays may very well be attracted to Islam as the last refuge of the rightist strain of tyranny.

God help Mr. Norquist to repent.

  46. cynthia curran says:

Well, this is one of the few post critical of Grover Norquist. The republican party usually likes him since he always favors tax cuts. But a economic conservative interested in mainly his pocket book without loyalty to the country isn't a good choice. Remember there are others out there besides the left, most are the s0-called paleo cons like Pat Buchnanan who isn't in some ways as bad as Norquist. National Review has an article by Norquist.

  47. Radegunda says:

The fact that he doesn't want to say whether he's a Muslim is disturbing (among other things about Grover). If he is, why does he conceal the fact? Most people do not hide their religion–unless they're "infidels" in an Islamic country.

If he isn't, and won't say so, is that because he fears the consequences of being an infidel married to a Muslima? And if that's the case, how can he continue to propagandize for Islam?

  48. Jennifer says:

A friend forwarded this post my way. I had no idea about Norquist's Islam ties or Muslim wife. His organization, Americans For Tax Reform, will never get one more dime of our money and his book which we bought about a year ago is headed for the trash. I will forward this post to as many people as I can since I am not sure how many know the truth about this man.
