It’s one thing to say that President Obama’s administration showed its ineptitude and mismanagement in its handling of the Gulf of Mexico oil spill. It is quite another to grasp the situation up close, as I did during a recent visit to Alabama.
According to state disaster relief officials, Alabama conceived a plan — early on — to erect huge booms offshore to shield the approximately 200 miles of its coastline from oil. Rather than install the relatively light and shallow booms in use elsewhere, the state (with assistance from the Coast Guard) canvassed the world and located enough huge, heavy booms — some weighing tons and seven meters high — to guard its coast.
But … no sooner were the booms in place than the Coast Guard, perhaps under pressure from the public comments of James Carville, uprooted them and moved them to guard the Louisiana coastline, instead.
So, Alabama decided on a backup plan. It would buy snare booms to catch the oil as it began to wash up on the beaches.
But … the Fish and Wildlife Administration vetoed the plan saying it would endanger sea turtles that nest on the beaches.
So, Alabama — ever resourceful — decided to hire 400 workers to patrol the beaches in person scooping up oil that had washed ashore.
But … OSHA (the Occupational Safety and Health Agency) refused to allow them to work more than 20 minutes out of every hour and required an hour-long break after 40 minutes of work, so the cleanup proceeded at a very slow pace.
The short answer is that every agency — each with its own particular bureaucratic agenda — was able to veto each aspect of any plan to fight the spill with the unintended consequence that nothing stopped the oil from destroying hundreds of miles of wetlands, habitats, beaches, fisheries and recreational facilities.
Where was the president? Why did he not intervene in these and countless other bureaucratic controversies to force a focus on the oil, not on the turtles and other incidental concerns.

In my line of work, when something major goes wrong that will affect the company in a big way the executive will jump in with both feet and start directing things to turn it around. If somebody in the company screws up, the executive isnt going to just sit back and let that guy be in controll to fix things, they will work together or the exec will take control. The exec may not have all the answers, but he can get all the experts together and get the answers. Because he is the exec, he has control of just about all the resources and can put them to work to solve the problem.
The oil spill was a huge disaster and the "executive" should have jumped in and started doing everything he could at his disposal. We can worry about law suits and pointing fingers later but till things are made right you work to solve the problem. Well B-rock can point fingers all he wants but the buck is going to stop right at his desk and he is going to be accountable for his inaction.
Next time you vote for a community organizer, you might want to consider what real experience and skills he has, rather than just a flim flam good time actor.

It is beginning to seem obvious that the administration's failure to utilize all the help that has been offered from around the world, to require unnecessary inspections of clean up boats for life preserver safety, and most recently to require an EPA "effectiveness" review for the largest skimmer ship in the world, is more than just bureaucratic bungling. It is a clear effort to stall and to make the environmental damage much worse than it should be so they can make a further argument for banning all drilling. We have to face the reality that this administration, starting with Obama, is populated by radical environmentalists who would like nothing better than shut down all oil production everywhere and put oil companies out of business or at least under more government control. Watch for the Oil Industry Reform Bill sometime soon.
Let me add that Bush suspended the labor-protecting Jones Act to allow foreign ships to help in the Katrina disaster. But Obama, to appease his union buddies, has not done that and here we are day 71. There would be no oil reaching the shores had they allowed burning from the get-go and recruited every available tanker and skimmer in the world. So, he gives not a flip about the Redneck Riviera and its Republican governors. Let billions of critters die and ruin millions of people to please his union buddies and environmentalists (with cap & tax). Nero?

US Orders Blackout Over North Korean Torpedoing Of Gulf Of Mexico Oil Rig

A grim report circulating in the Kremlin today written by Russia’s Northern Fleet is reporting that the United States has ordered a complete media blackout over North Korea’s torpedoing of the giant Deepwater Horizon oil platform owned by the World’s largest offshore drilling contractor Transocean that was built and financed by South Korea’s Hyundai Heavy Industries Co. Ltd., that has caused great loss of life, untold billions in economic damage to the South Korean economy, and an environmental catastrophe to the United States.
Most important to understand about this latest attack by North Korea against its South Korean enemy is that under the existing “laws of war” it was a permissible action as they remain in a state of war against each other due to South Korea’s refusal to sign the 1953 Armistice ending the Korean War.

IMHO, with this oil spill, (better known as an "oil gusher"), the only "booms" that were not considered were the ones we should have heard, and maybe could have used, 10,000 feet under the seabed to seal the well. This gusher is potentially destroying a 1,000 miles of beaches and coastal home prices for countless years. Tar balls do not evaporate. Nor do dead fish, birds, or vacant businesses. Tourism, however, will evaporate quickly, along with the economies of Florida and the fishing industry.

The moratorium on oil rigs operations based on falsifying a scientific report by the Obama Administration has shut down 33 deepwater drilling rigs currently operating in the Gulf and experts say it could take six years to replace them because demand for rigs is so high. It will also cost the states of LA, TX, and MS around 80,000 jobs. Louisiana Senator Mary Landrieu also called on Obama to lift the moratorium before it drives all the deepwater drilling rigs to other countries and totally ruins the US economy.
A recent court desidion has lifted the ban, but the Obama Adiminstration is bound and determined to ruin the US economy.
