Gunmen Dressed As Iraqi Army Torture, Slaughter 24 Sunni Muslims South Of Baghdad – Is This How To Decide An Election?

This just in from the “I Can’t Tell The Good Guys From the Bad Guys” department – (photo of al-Maliki and Ahmadinejad above from Michelle Malkin’s website):
Gunmen wearing the uniforms of Iraqi army soldiers invaded a village south of Baghdad on Good Friday, rounded up at least thirty-one Sunni Muslims and killed twenty-four of them. Some of the dead had their arms and legs broken prior to being shot and many were beaten beyond recognition. Seven victims were found alive, hands cuffed behind their backs.
These killings came on the heels of the recent Iraqi election, the final results of which are being brokered in Iran by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Ayatollah Muqtada al-Sadr, the anti-American who fled to exile in Iran when the post-Hussein civil war erupted between Shiites and Sunnis. The close election is still in dispute and some believe this latest violence is related thereto. Can the Sunnis and Shiites still be pursuing this sectarian madness, after twelve centuries of killing each other? Can’t they all just get along here? Perhaps it’s time for another surge of American troops to re-quell the fighting? Wait – there’s Afghanistan yet to finish.
“BAGHDAD – Gunmen in Iraqi military uniforms raided a village outside Baghdad and killed at least 24 people in an execution-style attack, apparently targeting a Sunni group that revolted against al-Qaida and helped turn the tide of the Iraq war, authorities said Saturday.
The attack late Friday comes amid increasing concerns that insurgents will take advantage of Iraq’s political turmoil to further destabilize the country, nearly a month after parliamentary elections failed to give any candidate a decisive win. Many fear a drawn-out political debate could spill over into violence and complicate American efforts to speed up troop withdrawals in the coming months.
Some of the victims in Friday’s attack suffered broken arms and legs, indicating they had been tortured before they were shot, police said. One witness said many of the victims were so badly brutalized that they were “beyond recognition.” Five of the dead were women.
At least seven people were found alive, bound with handcuffs, authorities said…”
By now it should be apparent to all in the Western World (even to the least intellectually gifted members of Congress) that the World of Islam does not necessarily settle its political or sectarian differences at the ballot box, or by sitting down to talk with one another. Before this election is decided there will be more similar slaughters along Shiite/Sunni lines as the centuries old conflict over who should have been the lawful successor to Muhammad rages on. The United States military forces cannot successfully referee or permanently stop this eternal feud.
