Take Olbermann out of the ballgame

A new group called Respect the Great Game has just launched an intriguing campaign: they’re asking folks to sign a petition calling on Major League Baseball to rethink its relationship with MSNBC’s Keith Olbermann, who occasionally blogs at the MLB web site.
In stark contrast to their target’s modus operandi, Respect the Great Game makes their case calmly and reasonably:
Given our love of the game, its traditions and history, we are puzzled as to why the greatness that is Major League Baseball allows Keith Olbermann to tarnish its blog pages with his musings. True, Keith Olbermann is a gifted speaker with a respectable grasp of the great game, but his nightly tirades on MSNBC are often aimed at the very people that fill the stands of baseball parks across our great land. In light of this we have put this site together to ask a very basic question, “Why does Major League Baseball allow an individual who relishes hate speech to be associated with it?”
The group insists they aren’t calling for a boycott of Major League Baseball or MSNBC. They simply want to collect signatures on a petition they hope to present to MLB Commissioner Bud Selig. And the video on their site (see below) is simply a montage of Olbermann’s own often unpleasant utterances.
Somehow, I don’t expect their reasonable tone and modest goals will prevent Olbermann from dubbing Respect the Great Game his newest “Worst Person in the World.”
