The Left Robs Us of “Nonpartisan” Politics

First the Left held up the word “liberal” at gunpoint, robbing it of its meaning as an open-minded person from the middle of the political spectrum. Now it’s the turn of “nonpartisan.” Another day, another once useful word co-opted by the Left. And another principle down the drain.
The realization struck me while I was basking in the afterglow of a recent event in Illinois where Kathy Tate-Bradish was the moderator for a debate sponsored by the League of Women Voters (LWV) between Joe Walsh and Melissa Bean. When a member of the audience asked if they were going to say the Pledge of Allegiance, Tate-Bradish replied in such a condescending fashion, the audience naturally reacted by rising to their collective feet and saying the Pledge. It was a sweet moment of Conservative Porn as Glenn Beck likes to call it.
During her quite supercilious explanation for why she couldn’t allow such a recitation to happen under her watch, Tate-Bradish said she had nothing for or against the Pledge. Obviously she thought she was being perfectly rational and nonpartisan. Note to Tate-Bradish — the Pledge of Allegiance is nonpartisan. It applies to all Americans or at least all Americans who love their country. The Left-Wing has a bad tendency to be partisan when they should be nonpartisan and nonpartisan when they should be taking a stand.
As for the LWV, I’d always considered them neutral on the issues until I checked their website and discovered they’re anything but. They supported passage of the Health Care Bill. They’re in favor of abortion and giving driving certificates to undocumented drivers. They’re against private gun ownership. And yet they have the nerve to tout themselves as a nonpartisan organization. Views like these can only be considered nonpartisan in some left-wing alternate universe.
It’s a sad state of affairs when words and their underlying principles get hijacked by a particular political persuasion. They soon become meaningless. No wonder we can’t communicate across the aisle anymore.
