There is much you could say about Harold E. Ford Jr. on Twitter. Ford is making a run for the NY Senate seat held by fellow Dem Kirsten Gillibrand. Wouldn’t take more than Twitter’s 140 character limit to say that the 39 year old African American is a former congressman from Tennessee and he vows not to let Harry Reid tell him how to vote. You could note that Ford is unconcerned about the NY party boss Chuck Schumer’s likes, dislikes or support.
Or, if you are Glenn Greenwald you could, in a spectacular feat of laser-like focus, tweet about the thing you find the MOST distasteful: the professional success of a democrat who might be pro-capitalism.
Greenwald tweets this morning:
ggreenwald: Boasting of pedicures, chauffeurs, helicopters, & the sanctity of Wall St. bonuses is a great, timely political strategy http://is.gd/6bM8S
Greenwald, the leftist writer for Salon, is responding to today’s NY Times article about Ford and his potential candidacy. The article is a reasonably balanced look at Ford, but Greenwald is tweeting about the 20th paragraph (yes, the 20th graph):
Mr. Ford declined to discuss what he is paid by the bank, but publicly available data suggests that he earns at least $1 million a year. Asked what role outsize pay packages played in fueling the financial crisis, Mr. Ford said he objected to capping executive compensation on Wall Street. “I am a capitalist,” he said. “I believe that people take risk, and there are rewards if they do well; they should lose if they don’t.”
But what is likely to gain the most immediate attention is his record on issues, which Ms. Gillibrand’s defenders say is too conservative for New York.
The reliably left NYTimes already reported Monday that the White House does not support young Mr. Ford’s candidacy… God knows they wouldn’t want to see an African American pro-life capitalist among their ranks. Greenwald’s tweet is a waste of 140 perfectly good characters.
