A recent Fox News report tells of how “a rash of attacks on Christian-owned businesses in northern Iraq has raised troubling questions about the future safety of the country’s shrinking Christian community, particularly as U.S. forces withdraw completely from the nation they’ve refereed since 2003.”
In fact, “questions about the future safety of the country’s shrinking Christian community” have been raised ever since the U.S. toppled secular strongman Saddam Hussein, thereby unloosing the forces of jihad previously corked. The report continues:
The attacks, which have received little international attention, raged through northern cities following a sermon last Friday by a local mullah. Video purportedly from the riots posted online shows mobs burning and wrecking businesses, which included liquor stores, hotels and hair salons.
Note the two important facts here that play over and over whenever Christians are persecuted under Islam: 1) Despite their frequency and severity, they “receive little international attention” (indeed, only the most spectacular of terrorist attacks on Christians—such as the 2010 Baghdad church attack which left some 60 dead—ever receive mainstream media attention); and 2) as usual, the attacks followed “a sermon last Friday by a local mullah” (in other words, are Islamic in nature).
As if the situation wasn’t bad enough, after pointing out that “Iraqi Christians … are living in fear,” U.S. Rep. Frank Wolf said:
“Now with the [U.S.] forces leaving … I think the Iraqi Christians are going to go through a very, very difficult time.” … He urged the Obama administration to do more to speak up on the issue. “They know this is a problem. Our government ought to be advocating and ought to be pushing.”
It ought to, but it’s not. After calling the U.S. government’s silence concerning the blatant persecution of Iraq’s Christians “disturbing,” the founder of the Iraqi Christian Relief Council added: “We’re on the verge of extinction.”
We have a moral obligation to accept these Christians as refugees. After all, they were quite a well-protected minority under Saddam. All that changed after the US invasion. Yes, the Iraqi Christians may have initially encouraged the invasion in the expectation of freedom, but their fortunes quickly deteriorated after Saddam's ouster…and no fair-minded person can claim they are better off now.
Just as importantly as the moral dimension is the strategic value of bringing in tens of thousands of Arabic-speaking Christians who could be invaluable to Homeland Security as translators. We wouldn't have to depend on the dubious loyalty of Muslim translators.
It makes me sick that we grant refugee status to thousands of Somalis and Muslims of other nationalities every year. Their refugee status automatically qualifies them for all kinds of entitlements. Many remain on the dole for years and even decades…at the taxpayers expense. We subsidize them while they Islamize our country.
It's time to emphasize admitting immigrants and refugees who share our values and who don't have conflicted loyalties. The Iraqi Christians are a perfect example. They can contribute their talents and language skills to our national security…and they can help enlighten us with their intimate knowledge of the intolerance and malevolence of Islam.
Agreed abosutely! I'm no Christian but I am shocked and appalled at how these people are being treated in Iraq, Egypt and Iran etc. I'm particularly worried also about the plight of the Egyptian Copts – I'm convinced these people are slated for extermination (literally!) and they need to get to safety NOW!

I agree also. People should demand of their ministers admission of these targeted peoples especially since they are achievers. I do not see them spying for the Islamic regimes as some other groups.have spied for their former countries.
Look at the abuse and persecution of the native americans at the hands of christians as thier land was stolen. That is all we need is more christians in north america. All christian religions should be shut down.

In other words, let the modern victors claim the spoils. And leave the charity workers and left wingers to run the social services at home, and pamper to the weak and needy. Murray: More than half of the Christian population has been forced to flee their homes in Iraq because of Islamic violence against them. Their churches have been burned and bombed.
The official position of the Administration has been that “Coalition Forces assisting the Christians would cause them to be identified with the United States and have even more problems.” As a result they receive no assistance in defending themselves at all.
Immediately after the American invasion of Iraq, the Christian militias were disarmed. They were the only militias to be disarmed. American forces allowed both the Sunnis and Shiites to keep their armed militias.
Christians first fled from Baghdad to the Nineveh Plains, and then to Jordan and Syria. In Jordan and Syria the American embassies told Iraqi refugees to go to the United Nations because their plight “was not an American problem.” Excuse me?
Meanwhile the official position of the State Department under Condi Rice is that Christians are harassed by “criminal elements” in Iraq and that no persecution exists.
