It’s been a bumpy road for the Palestinians lately.
Recent staged spectacles that were supposed to whip up sympathy for them and put Israel in a bad light again—the Nakba Day (May 15) and Naksa Day (June 4) marches on Israel’s borders, the flotilla, the flytilla—have been disappointments at best, if not outright flops. And the Palestinians’ long-hyped independent-statehood bid at the UN in September is meeting growing opposition from the West.
The Obama administration is believed to have signaled that it will veto the attempt in the Security Council. Germany and Italy have come out squarely against it, and last week 100 members of the European Parliament signed a letter decrying it, noting that “past agreements between the parties and international mediators clearly reject unilateral actions.”
This week a meeting of the Middle East Quartet—the U.S., EU, UN, and Russia—that was supposed to find a way to head off the Palestinians’ statehood bid and restart Israeli-Palestinian negotiations, ended inconclusively. Two Israeli newspapers (here and here) say the sticking point was—in return for Israeli diplomatic concessions—Palestinian recognition of Israel as a Jewish state, with Russian foreign minister Sergei Lavrov backing the Palestinians’ ongoing rock-solid refusal to take that seemingly innocuous step.
It all left the Palestinians very upset with the U.S. Reuters reported that
the Palestinian leadership, in unusually harsh criticism of Washington, on Tuesday held the United States responsible for “racist” Israeli policies it said had sabotaged the peace process. …
The Palestine Liberation Organization’s (PLO) executive committee convened in Ramallah after a meeting in Washington of the Quartet…failed to announce any progress toward reviving peace talks. …
“The only option facing the world today, especially the United States, is to use all tools to oblige the occupiers to halt their racist, expansionary policy,” the PLO said in a statement released after its meeting.
“The United States bears the prime responsibility for the continuation of this racist (Israeli) policy,” it said.
Somehow the “peace” cadences are hard to detect here—especially when you consider that “racist” Israel created the Palestinian Authority, has endured 17 years of terrorism from it without dissolving it, and last year froze the allegedly “expansionary” settlement construction for ten months in a fruitless bid to get the PA to discuss the two-state solution; and that the U.S., for its part, has showered the PA with $4 billion in aid since the mid-1990s and, particularly under Obama, for better or worse, made Palestinian statehood a central goal of its foreign policy.

Do not give the aid to the Palestinian patrons ; give it directly to the people in the camps who never see a dime of the money now.
No, don't give it to anybody. There are patrons within the camps who take the money and all the best items that get donated as well. The camps should be dispersed and the "refugees" embraced by their own in Jordan, Saudi etc.
There has to be more than what the simple eye sees, in this insistence on keeping
throwing good money away on the so called "Palestinians" who are as Palestinians
as I'm the man of the moon…
Upon the establishment of the State of Israel in 1948, the Arab nations expelled their
Jews who had been living among them for centuries, with barely the shirt on their
backs and Israel took them all in…
The reasons this administration messenger submitted to the House are plain and
unadulterated hogwash and it might as well try selling them a bridge and logically,
representatives felt outraged, as voiced by some of them…
I believe the situation of the country doesn't allow any longer for this largesse to
this people for that many years…unless its backers want to do it out of their own
pockets, which of course is extremely doubtful…
It is foolish to borrow money for, among others, this purpose and we must agree
it is only fair, in spite of making OBAMA renege on any promises he might have
made to the Muslim world to which, OBAMA DIXIT, America somehow owes its independence
F__ the "Palestinians".
I'm not refering to people of that region who might be struggling, I'm talking about the political construct. If they had adopted Nonviolent Protest, along the lines of Ghandi &ML King, there would have been a "Palestinian" state decades ago. Instead they've followed their baser instincts, filled with hate, and now they live in their self created squalor.
My compassion has run thin for these people. Their problem is staring back at them in the mirror. I've had it with the f—ing "palestinians".
The bottom line is: They prefer hating jews to living in their own nation.
Exactly. Barak offered Arafat 97% of what he wanted with the other 3% to be made up elsewhere. Even though he had signed an agreement to negotiate instead of resorting to violence, he went to war anyway.
A peaceful Palestine allied with Israel could have been an economic powerhouse.
They didn't need to protest in any way at all! All they had to do was to accept the U.N. partition of the land in 1948. If you know your history you'd know that the land was to be divided into a Jewish state and an Arab state (with the Arabs getting the bulk of the land) (and even though Transjordan, now Jordan, was and is a majority Palestinian nation). The Jews accepted the original two state solution back then, the Arabs attacked the fledgling Jewish state with the publicly stated intention of driving the Jews into the sea.
True, and at any time afterwards they could have renounced violence and gotten their "homeland"…They don't want a homeland…not as much as they want the issue to continue bleeding.
Most likely, most of the donated money is going directly to Iran.
Since it is ILLEGAL to provide support for any person or organization that itself supports a terrorist organization (HAMAS) it is now illegal for the US to give ANY SUPPORT to the PA. Since their aligning with Hamas they have effectively snubbed their nose at us. They knew the rule going in. They decided to pursue a relationship with Hamas which they obviously believe suits them better than our money.
I don't know why it is so difficult. We should make it clear that we will support any country that shares our values which include personal freedoms and constitutional liberty in a Western Style Democracy. Otherwise you are on your own. Simple. They see folks like Israel and now Southern Sudan perhaps getting help while they live like 7th century cave dwellers with their fellow Islamists. Maybe they'll see the light. If not, at least we didn't waste our money.
Aid to the palestinians is a waste of money and resources that could be used more productively elsewhere. American aid in particular probably represents a huge proportion of the palestinian GDP. Do we even know if there are conditions that describe how the aid is to be spent? Any hope the money is being used to build hospitals and schools (that don't teach hatred) and blow up mosques?
The Arabs miscalled "Palestinians" are not Palestinians. "Palestinian" has been synonymous with "Jew" since the Roman Emperor Hadrian changed the name of Judea to Palestina in 135 A.D. after defeating the last Jewish rebellion under Bar Kochba. Since that time, "Palestine" was synonymous with "land of the Jews" or "the Holy Land," since Jesus was a Jew. That is why Great Britain was awarded the "Palestine Mandate" to be the "homeland of the Jews" after World War I.
In 1964, in Cairo, Gamal Nasser of Egypt and the Soviet Union, haters of Jews, invented the "Palestine Liberation Organization" to destroy Israel. The phony history and propaganda about Arabs as "Palestinians" followed. These Arabs deserve not a penny, nor do they deserve yet another Arab state.
I have wondered, how, exactly, does "foreign aid" work? For instance. if we give $10 billion (just guessing at the amount) in "aid" to the "Palestinians," how does that work? Is there one of those nice checks one gets if you have a refund on your taxes, that is one of those green computer cards with official engraving? If so, who gets that check: Pay to the Order of__________ for $10 billion? Or maybe it is direct deposit?
Are these funds audited? How well, exactly, do the "leaders" of the PA live? How much of the "aid" money goes to administration as distinct from benefits and who gets the benefits?
I bet that one of the things supporting terrorism is all this aid, from us, the EU, the UN, etc. After all, for those sending out the suicide bombers, as distinct from those who ARE suicide bombers, terrorism is a pretty good gig.
The primary daily requirement in a middle-class commercial country like the US is that almost everybody has to go to a job. Most people don't have a lot of time to sit around an plot mayhem.
I but if we and the EU cut off the money, A LOT of people would have to go out an find a job rather than plotting our or Israel's demise.
Despite all the comments there is NO serious proposal to resolve the conflict. When all else fails why not use come common sense? If the so-called Palestinians want their own country there are more than enough opportunities available. Look at the map of the region. Muslims have over 1,000 times more territory in their 50+ countries than does Israel. Let the Muslim world set aside space for their brethren to set up their own state. Problem solved!! The real problem however, is that the Jewish leadership is too craven and too cowardly to utter this simple solution in public. Instead Netanyahu keeps talking utter nonsense about setting up a Palestinian state in the so-called West Bank. Why should the Muslims offer a place for the Palestinian state when the Jews keep shooting themselves in the foot?
Because if uttered aloud, the world opinion regarding land theft will be validated. Most Israelis believe that Muslims to move to the vast Arab world, however, the vast Muslim world refuses to assimilate their brethren.
No need to give your children’s food to dogs, the arabs and muslims are not suppose to recieve any aid from non muslim nations, let me ask” these arab muslims are they not the one that are trying to islamise our world? So to create another muslim state is like to create another iran.
It's not that the US policy toward the Palestinians is all carrots and no sticks. It's that they get those carrots irrespective of their actions and behavior. They'll openly berate and insult the US and *still* the money flows. So what incentive do they have to follow the US lead?
One can only hope the US indeed vetoes the Palestinian request for UN recognition, but I fear they'll follow that veto with an apology saying they really wanted to vote yes, as Rice proferred when she vetoed a condemnation of Israel earlier this year.
NATO must come out and say that we ate at war with Iran.. Hezbollah in Lebanon,Hamas in West Bank, M-brotherhood in Egypt. Syria, Pakistan,Iraq, Iran is pulling most of the strings here.. If the truth were made more clear, financial support for these regimes in the West would dry-up over night.
The sunshine of Truth is the best disinfectant and it's about time that the world engages some logic in this whole bizarre charade.
The reason the PA/Hamas entity cannot EVER recognize a Jewish state of course is the Koranic Islamic mandate, coupled with the Mafia-like character of their society, where every citizen on the street can be a perfectly legal enforcer of the death penalty against anyone who goes against the hate-filled ideology. Abbas wouldn't last more than 24 hours and he's only stalling to save his sorry ass.
Bizarre charade is right.
Oh, wait — you forgot to say "racist". A bizarre racist charade.
At one point it seemed the Palestinians were going to steamroll the world with their claim for recognition as a state. Now it is increasingly clear that their one- sided approach has already fostered major opposition. The threatened U.S. veto in the 'Security Council' means the effort is most probably already derailed.
But the real hope is that more and more people are becoming aware of the true nature of Palestinian intentions, and the false character of their basic 'narrative'. Their refusal to live in peace with the Jewish state has been and is still the heart of the conflict. P.David Hornik is to be commended for repeatedly exposing the mendacity which pervades the story they spin to the world.
TWO things the world MUST understand , there will be NO PEACE in the middle east UNTIL Israel's right to exist is acknowledged . Epecially with the people called palestinian , and Israel's surrounding neighbors . Second , there will NEVER be a palestinians state without the expressed consent of Israel and all of her SECURITY concerns addressed , and this is regardless of any unilateral action of the UN , or ANYONE else for that matter, with Jerusalem as it's Capitol – UNDIVIDED .
There will be no Peace until the Palestinian people start indoctrinating their children in the peaceful muslim religion. This barbaric religion of hate isn't working for them . It doesn't help that their government is run by terror groups, whose sole purpose is the distruction of Israel. Their wall of lies has been exposed. Obama may have no problem making peace agreements with terrorists who refuse to recognize Israel's right to exist , Americans do.
If there is a place British Mandates of the Middle East , given to the Arabs the so called palestinians it must be east to the Jordan River that means were the new Kingdom of Jordan ( Hashemites) was created. This should have be the agreement , not any ambitious fable to confuse the truth. History must be preserved and respected. Israel has enough entitlements and a well known and documented history for thousands of years living there. The British distribution of this part of the Ottoman Empire territory after WWI creating many new Islamic countries in the region needs to be reviewed. It was promised to be returned to the Ancient Jewish people, the very people who preserve their extraordinary important civilization, the Israelites, their historic place. The world must respect Israel.
palestine=israel.
the so called palestinians not wanted by any-body have always been, and always will be, trouble.
they have enjoyed not only being brainwashed by those that wish to use them to help kill us,but have also enjoyed, and do enjoy, the continued theatre and brainwashing of not only their own children but those weak enough to join any cause and those who seek any excuse to cause trouble for israel.
radical islam and the palestinians(so called)have built up the perfect formular for always apearing to be the injured party and continue to still be able to get away with repeating the same old act and even with the murderous act against us and attacks on our children still manage to gain a standing ovation some-where in the world.
it's about time the people/coutries of the world sent a loud message that we have all had enough of watching the same act,and hearing how they intend by any means to make islam the only world religion(if it can be called that) when they can stand in our streets and tell the world they intend to kill to gain their goals there is some-thing badly wrong.
they see the good things we all try to do to better the world as weakness to be used against us all.
WRONG. Israel had nothing to do with the creation of Hamas. The organization grew out of the ideology and practice of the Islamic fundamentalist Muslim Brotherhood movement that arose in Egypt in the 1920s.
Israel’s so-called "assistance" was more passive than active, that is, "it did not interfere with Hamas activities or prevent funds from flowing into the organization from abroad." Israel only provided a small amount of funding so Israeli security could infiltrate the organization.
Seriously, read a book, I promise it won't bite.
