As Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords (D-AZ) was fighting for her life on Saturday, Daily Kos founder Markos Moulitsas did what any normal American would do: he used Twitter to promote his book and rant about how rotten and despicable conservatives were for shooting her. Except he got the story completely wrong.
Here’s what the Bard of Berkeley wrote as news of the shootings broke Saturday (NSFW!):
“F***ing American Taliban.” Think about that for a moment. As the lifeblood of a federal judge and other innocents attending a constituents’ meeting with their congresswoman spilled to the ground, the first idea to occur to Kos was to promote his bound volume of toilet-ready psychotic drivel.
This steaming chunk of landfill fodder is called, American Taliban: How War, Sex, Sin, and Power Bind Jihadists and the Radical Right, and it bears more than a passing resemblance to radical George Soros-funded pseudojournalist Max Blumenthal‘s flatulent hate porn opus Republican Gomorrah: Inside the Movement that Shattered the Party.
What exactly does it mean that Comrade Kos instantly leapt to conclusions and blamed unseen forces on the Right before anyone knew what had actually happened in Tucson? It means that he believes that Americans who believe in low taxes and limited government are as bad as a despotic regime that stones its citizens for adultery and flogs them for drinking alcohol. It means that Kos would definitely benefit from an involuntary stay at a mental health care facility.
Moulitsas reasoned that if a Democratic lawmaker had been shot it had to have been done by a Republican or a Tea Party supporter or a Sarah Palin fan or an Obamacare opponent or a talk radio listener.
Who else would do such a thing?
To unhinged commentators like Kos, it couldn’t be any other way — except life has a way of intruding on the leftist narrative.
