In Maryland, Montgomery Community College has become the latest institution to offer a class on the Occupy Wall Street (OWS) movement. “Occupy MoCo!” will be offered to students in grades nine through twelve during the summer of 2012 as part the community college’s summer youth program. Four days ago, Elizabeth Homan, Montgomery’s Director of Communications, told Fox News the course “does not take a stance on the Occupy movement.” Perhaps not now that the college has been caught red-handed. Since the story first broke, the course description has been changed twice to cover up its clear initial purpose: recruitment and indoctrination in OWS mob mania.
The original description of course, “You392 Occupy MoCo!” read as follows (italics mine): ”We are at an exciting time in the history of the world. People all over the planet are taking democracy into their own hands and working together to create solutions for a better world. Take advantage of this interactive opportunity to learn critical thinking skills that will help you in college and gain insight into becoming a global leader of the 21st century. Learn about the Occupy Wall Street movement and explore real-life human rights implications. Review social justice concepts and explore human rights issues related to current events. Young people hold the power to change their community, their schools, their future–are you ready to join the movement for justice?”
A new description was put on the college’s website on Tuesday: “All around the world, people are taking democracy into their own hands. This class provides a unique, creative opportunity to discuss social issues and protests throughout history, including current events such as Occupy Wall Street. Students will learn about the various processes that can be used to voice opinions in their own community. Join in this interactive class to gain valuable insights into leadership and to develop critical thinking skills for college and life.”
What’s missing from this description? Any mention of human rights and social justice. Why the change? Course descriptions for the summer program are written with “exciting titles and energizing descriptions” to attract students to the program, Ms. Homan contended. ”In an attempt to be fun and interesting, the true content of the class may have been lost.”
Perhaps. But one suspects that both the complaints of area residents and online allegations that the course was trying to indoctrinate students have taken their toll. Ms. Homan conceded the possibility. “We’ve heard from our community that there was some clarity that we needed to provide in our course description, and we’re going to correct that,” Homan said earlier this week before the change was made. Yet even current students at Montgomery College recognized the inherent problem with the original description. “It’s like, ‘Are you ready to join the movement for justice?’ That’s recruiting someone,” said student Cameron Lancon.
The course is being created by Neha Singhal with ”input from the dean” according to Ms. Homan. Curiously, the college’s roster of personnel did not include Ms. Singhal in its database. Ms. Homan explained that summer courses “taught through the workforce development and continuing education, specifically the youth programs are [taught] by part-time, short-term employees.” Ms. Homan also insisted that Ms. Singhal “is not affiliated in any way with the OWS movement.”

These college instructors have gotten quite bold here in Obama's Grave New World. They hardly care if people know they are using our colleges as training centers for goose steppers. Oh, what a falling off there has been in the nation that used to lead the free world.

Wednesday I was at Montgomery College Rockville to find out more about this class and was told by a staffer in the “Student Services/Admissions Office” that it was still “tentative” and to check back in mid-April. However, it’s on the Summer Youth Program class schedule for July 9th through July 20th, M-F, 1PM-4PM. If enough people complain between now and then hopefully the class will be canceled.
Shame … These kids who lack critical skills in science, mathematics, reading and how to write are college bound to learn what and at whose exspence? How to protest and demand shared wealth as their entitlement!
They would be better served to learn how to survive in the work-place and learn to become givers to, rather than takers from, others.

Albuquerque "un-Occupy" disrupted a speech last night by NONIE DARWISH at the University of New Mexico. "Un" was added months ago since it was a statement that the land was taken away from Native Americans.
Earlier in the afternoon on the University mall, a group had a table with a Che poster hanging off the table which had "Socialist Party" information and advertising their meetings at the local Peace and Justice Center. Illegal since it is a political party at a tax-exempt organization? The CPUSA and ANSWER also have meetings there.
Members of unoccupy, the Socialist Party, and Students for Justice in Palestine passed out flyers in the lobby for their upcoming event and some people were offended. Then about forty minutes into her speech, WHICH THEY LISTENED TO ABOUT "ISLAMOPHOBIA," which was the title of the students flyer, which means they should have learned something about Nonie's personal experience, but they disrupted with "Mic Check" and then shouting. THE AUDIENCE WAS 95% ELDERLY AND SENIORS and many of them rushed up the steps to KICK THEM OUT! IS THIS A FIRST since it's usually the police who take them out? THESE SENIORS WERE HEROIC! The police were then called but the students were leaving.
WHAT ACTIONS can be taken against students who disrupted an internationally known writer and speaker and denied her of her FREE SPEECH? One former professor tried to takeover the question period and people were shouting "What's your question?" He said that this was a university and a zone of free speech. FUNNY THAT HE AND THE UNOCCUPY DENIED NONIE DARWISH OF HERS!!!

I don’t know about either of those but as a natural born American citizen, a Vietnam Veteran and a ta-paying homeowner in Rockville MD (where “Occupy MoCo” will be taught) I do know that the instructor’s former employer CASA de Maryland was the driving force behind the State of Maryland letting illegal immigrants take college courses at in-State resident tuition rates.

The "Occupy" movement is one of would-be communist tyrants who, like all tyrants, claim the support of the "masses," in the case of the Occupy movement, 99% of Americans, for which they have no evidence. Note the tents, toilet facilities, and the privately held blackberries, etc. I was at a meeting of the American Philosophical Association which ha a session on the Occupy movement. No one on the panel had any criticisms, so in the question period I made my comments. Afterwards, someone from the audience shouted that there are no free elections in the U.S. – which showed the tyrannical basis of the Occupy movement, since the lowliest elected official has more claim to representing his constituents than these would-be tyrants. As David Horowitz reports, it is another front for communists.
Isn't it interesting that NO ONE involved in establishing high-school-level curricula has any interest in approaching "social" justice from the perspective of free-market capitalism, which accentuates liberty and free choice, the trade-off being that inequality may follow, as opposed to command-system moralism, which emphasizes helping those who fall below a certain material standard, the trade-off being that initially liberty is lost in the pursuit of equality, then everyone becomes poor, then everyone becomes needy, thus insuring the collapse of all social justice systems based on equality.

I am retired from a career in academia, albeit in central administration and I state categorically that not even in the hard sciences does one find a reasonably conservative academic. There are numerous surveys that 95% of academia is politically center left. Where have you been?
Young people are being taught about evil of capitalism. They are learning that this country is evil and needs to be converted to socialism. The left will eventually turn truly violent.
I think I will pass on this course and wait for something somewhat more uplifting and socially acceptable
