Hiroshima and Detroit: The Damage Democrats Do to the Poor Lasts Longer Than a Nuclear Bomb

What happened to the radiation that lasts thousands of years?

HIROSHIMA 1945

We all know that Hiroshima and Nagasaki were destroyed in August 1945 after the explosion of atomic bombs. However, we know little about the progress made by the people of that land during the past 65 years.

HIROSHIMA – 67 YEARS LATER

DETROIT – 67 YEARS AFTER HIROSHIMA

What has caused more long term destruction - the A-bomb, or Government welfare programs created to buy the votes of those who want someone to take care of them?

Japan does not have a welfare system. Work for it or do without.

These are possibly the 5 best sentences you’ll ever read and all applicable to this experiment:

1. You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealthy out of prosperity.

2. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.

3. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.

4. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it!

5. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that is the beginning of the end of any nation.

The pictures are not of Hiroshima or Nagasaki, but of Yokohama.

  3. SoCalMike says:

Actually I think there are pictures of both Hiroshima and Yokohama but the point is clear.
The damage done by the Left during peace dwarfs the damage done during war.
The socialist/central planner types should have been wiped from the realm of rational discourse in 1989 but they instead have metastasized to a point of critical mass now endangering not only the Golden Goose of the Global Economy, the US Economy, with their endless plunder, but far more dangerous in foreign policy they are recklessly appeasing, bribing and selling the Free World out to the very nasty elements they should be opposing and fighting.
    The Left is poisonous.

    • Laurie says:

Uh, no. These are pictures of YOKOHAMA. 420 miles away from where the bomb went off. No radiation? Of course not, the city shown was never nuked in the first place. You just have to love the Right; can't sell your story with the truth? Fine then, just LIE. Take pictures of a modern city that was never nuked at all and call it the rebuild of a city that is in another part of the country. That'll do it.

As for Detroit, inhabited since 1701, if you want to know what happened there you might try this timeline, which shows that after doubling in size to provide labor for the auto industry, the city lost all of that growth a few decades later during the race riots of the civil rights era, when most of the middle class fled the city among with most businesses, causing a collapse of the tax base. The city lost 215,000 people in four years between 1966 and 1969. That's 1/8 of the population in FOUR years. They are actually just barely starting to rebound now, 50 years of more after all the industrial and manufacturing jobs disappeared.

  4. Walter Knight says:

You mean the people of Detroit aren't getting all the free stuff they were promised?

  5. So insensitive says:

David, you are still a liberal at heart. How do I know? Because you don't even mention that most of Detroit's destruction is caused by the low-IQ, dysfunctional black population. It's a lot safer to blame it on Democrats and welfare policies, isn't it? If only the government would stop sending checks and EBT cards, Detroit would be like Hiroshima today! You are either in denial or, as I suspect, you understand racial differences perfectly well but are too cowardly to mention it — someone might call you a racist!

    • I don't think the low IQ explains everything because there are almost as many whites with low IQs as blacks simply because the statistical analysis and the total population strongly suggest it. There is a socio/political/cultural factor here that goes beyond IQ.

It's the govt handouts not people that creates this devastation.

I think you all have it wrong. Here I am a 79 year old,Korean war veteran. My son was in the Marines in Afg. and Iraq.I say this to you,to explain where my family values are.
Think about what would have happened if we did not drop the A bomb in Japan. How many American's would have died trying to end the WWII.Who started the war?How many of our comrades died in the course of battles.
I am against war.i have alway's said , old men start wars and the young die. When will we all learn that we humans cause more damage to the hunan race than animals do,to there own. When will we learn???? I love you all….POPS

      • codivergirl says:

Ummm, mlcblog…who do you think votes for the handouts??? It certainly IS the people. The human race is our own worst enemy! If everyone were Conservative and/or Libertarians, then we wouldn't be in the mess we are in today.

      Amen!!

    • John Q Public says:

      A bit racist, eh???

  6. mlcblog says:

Fine. It is more complicated than just too much welfare. War is terrible, too.

…and don't give up yet!! My most devastated spots in my life are turning out to be the most glorious ones now.

Actually, I was replying to Flynn, just above me.

  7. cynthia curran says:

Well, that;'s true. about David not mentioning the failures of blacks or Hispanics. Republicans like to talk about how great Texas is doing but the border area which is mainly Hispanic is one of the poorest parts of the US. Texas policies work great for most white people that don't have to compete against immigrants constantly and while Perry is a little better than Obama he isn't giving them amnesty he still allow thousands of low skilled workers in his state to do those low skilled jobs and still their poverty rate is much higher than the native born. Tax cuts and less regulation doesn't helped if the people tend to be low skilled and the low skilled are growing.

The same can be said about Cleveland.A once Industrial power-house is , for the most part , a ghetto now!

ok well does any one now where I can find a good school in detroit to send my child…..or where the nearest heroin house is so I can get a fix.

  10. bwdave says:

Interesting concept, but I'm not sure Detroit looked much better before the war.

  11. jen says:

Notice… all the pictures of Hiroshima are at night with the city lights! Detroit looks just as beautiful at night but all the Detroit pictures are in the day time and of single houses not the big beautiful buildings downtown. Google Detroit and you will see how beautiful it looks at night as well! There are only a few of Hiroshima… the others are of Yokohama. This is just a bunch of crap to talk about our government! If you people don't like the US government and how our country is being run… GET OUT! Go live somewhere else. It is ridiculous!

    • beeman says:

We don't have to get out, but it our duty to carry out justice and lift up our brothers, not enslave them, people
Are just like the bears in the park, if you feed them you will destroy them because they get use to it, and will no longer fend for themselves, its not about me or you being right, but about what is right. Have a blessed day. Beeman

    • Libertarian - Logicman says:

We would love to “GET OUT” here in Texas, but your socialist leaders and their agenda do not want to lose our productivity and wealth. You want to keep us involved with your California and New York voting tendencies so that you have someone to pay for the handouts you vote for yourselves. Inside a free market where everyone has to work, a population will flourish. Inside a Keynesian, socialistic mess like we (read YOU) have voted into place here, you will find recession and/or stagnation.

Our government needs to be “talked about”!!!

  13. Johnny Toothpick says:

    From Wikipedia:
Social welfare, assistance for the ill or otherwise disabled and for the old, has long been provided in Japan by both the government and private companies. Beginning in the 1920s, the government enacted a series of welfare programs, based mainly on European models, to provide medical care and financial support. During the postwar period, a comprehensive system of social security was gradually established.[1][2] Government expenditures for all forms of social welfare increased from 6% of the national income in the early 1970s, to 18% in 1989. The mixture of public and private funding have created complex pension and insurance systems.

  14. Jeff Travers says:

Check out McKeesport,Pa!It's a disaster today. Grew up ther. Really sad to see a city collapse.

  15. Lisa M says:

It isn't welfare that killed Detroit, it was the leaders of their one and only industry, automotive, that rested on their laurels and let the Japanese automotive industry (some of it based in Hiroshima) pass them. I mean seriously, who bought American cars from the 70s onwards? Everyone bought Japanese as they were better quality and looked better. That wasn't the fault of Detroit residents who are still trapped there; it was the fault of the US automotive industry leaders who all left town soon as they could.

You know it's bad when they film I Am Legend in a place that looks just like that, or maybe they filmed it there….

  18. Mathew says:

    1. Politics aside, this is a brilliant photo comparison, unfortunately that is where the brilliance ends

    2. Lets not let history get in the way of blaming welfare or one or another political position for the demise of Detroit:

    a. The U.S. sent William Edwards Deming ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/W._Edwards_Deming) to Japan in the 1950's to teach their automobile industry cutting edge manufacturing techniques…such as TQM (total quality management), JIT (just in time) under the title "Plan Do, Check". Since Japan was building from the ground up (since we leveled everything), they had the opportunity to use the cutting edge management and manufacturing techniques to begin the process of world domination of the automotive industry.

    b. In the 1940's/1950's/1960's/1970's…. The American automotive industry stayed focused on building cars that America cherished…. GIANT & gas guzzling. GM, Ford lead the world at that time, but was not focused on the future wants and needs of the world for smaller, fuel efficient, cheaper cars. The American car manufactures should have "got a clue" as to what was to come when in 1969 the Datsun 240Z landed in the U.S. A light, nimble and cheap …. sporty everyday car with the stamp "Made in Japan" was applauded and bought by Americans (622,649 by 1978…which includes the 240 and 260Z). Datsun changed its name to Nissan when it became a global force in the automotive industry.

    c. It is easy to blame programs (such as welfare) or the politicians of ones choosing for what happened in Japan for the past 67 years and the rise of Japan to being the 3rd LARGEST economy in the world.in 2013,. I recommend understanding the impact of "free trade" which allowed Japan to export their superior products to the U.S. By the way, the "Free Trade" concept is also the reason that you now see "Made in China" or "made in India" or "made in Vietnam" or "made in XXX" instead of "Made in the U.S.A" on the majority of items purchased by Americans. Oh and if you go to an AMC theater to see a flick, you now are helping a Chinese company, since they own AMC Theaters, oh and if you buy a Leveno computer same thing. "Free Trade" was sold to Americans, as beneficial to all citizens, since if we made foreign nations stronger by buying their goods, they would naturally reciprocate and buy our goods since they would have more income and wealth…since we bought their products.

Our economic troubles has to do with the trade policies of the past 67 years, and the gullibility of the American public which caused them to believe the policies would benefit them. Ooooops, it is continuing today. As far as what happened to all that Radiation that was left behind in Nagasaki, it is leaving Japan as a small rock inside each bumper of the Japanese cars bought in America.
