2016 OBAMA’S AMERICA Tops Weekday Box Office

Monday saw a major win for the Obama documentary as it brought in 1.2 million dollars while The Expendables 2 barely squeaked ahead with 1.3 million and other movies lingered far behind.
What Monday really showed was the passionate commitment of audiences to 2016. In Per Theater Averages, which measure how many people are a showing, 2016 was consistently out front, packing every theater where it was shown.
On Saturday, the busiest day of the weekend, 2016 had a per theater average of $2,149 to The Expendables 2′s weak $1,668. On Monday, the crowds stayed with 2016 claiming a per theater average of 1100, while The Expendables 2 was down to $446 and The Bourne Legacy had fallen to $255. 2016 had the smallest falloff, while The Expendables 2 was down by 65.9%, The Bourne Legacy fell 62.5% and The Dark Knight Rises had faltered by 60.1%, 2016 was only down by %37.
2016 is a movie with audience commitment and theater owners have to be loving a movie that can pack in audiences this way during the week. And that may open the door for more conservative documentaries.
