Egypt Begins Descent into Tyranny

Another Muslim Brotherhood statement accused the Mossad of being behind the attack and followed that with a call for Egyptian military control of Sinai. Egypt trashing the Camp David Accords and rolling back whatever security there was in the Sinai for a hostile border between the two countries is not in Israel’s interests—but it is part and parcel of the Brotherhood’s war agenda.

The Rafah attack bears some similarities to Nazi Germany’s Operation Himmler which used attacks by Nazi agents pretending to be Polish insurgents as a pretext for an invasion of Poland. But the Rafah attack also bears some similarities to the way that the Reichstag fire was used by the Nazis as a pretext for suppressing the opposition.

These historical analogies are not accidental. Nazi Germany had a great deal of influence on the Muslim Brotherhood. Matthias Kuntzel has described how the Brotherhood borrowed slogans, tactics and methods from Nazi Germany. The Brotherhood not only took Nazi money, it also absorbed Nazi ideas and its constant talk of revolution echoes both Nazi and Communist doctrine. Morsi is following in Hitler’s footsteps by terrorizing Christian Copts and using the Rafah attack as a Reichstag assault on Egypt’s political opposition and a pretext for tearing up the Camp David Accords.

Prominent Muslim Brotherhood figures are constantly issuing calls for arresting and detaining the opposition, accusing them of reactionary activities that subvert the revolution. Meanwhile Egypt hurriedly arrested and tried a number of Islamist terrorists through military tribunals; including one man they dubbed the “Bin Laden of Sinai.” But prominent newspapers, including Al-Hayat, have stated that the Rafah attackers came out of Gaza and made their move through Hamas tunnels. And Egyptian Major-General Gamal Mazloum has accused Hamas of funding the Sinai terrorists.

The alliance between the Muslim Brotherhood’s Hamas arm in Gaza and its Freedom and Justice Party in Egypt has allowed the organization to play off the military against the terrorists. Sinai terrorism leads to repression in Cairo and border tensions with Israel fulfilling the Brotherhood’s twin goals of suppressing domestic secularism and waging war against neighboring infidels. Both external threats are calculated to distract Egyptians from their dire economic situation.

The Rafah attack has given Morsi a much-needed external threat that is not economic in nature. It has allowed him to consolidate control over the military, the only independent threat to his rule, and to hijack the drafting of Egypt’s new constitution. Morsi has scrapped the June 17th Declaration and is set to implement a new process for drafting Egypt’s new constitution. A constitution that is doomed to be more Islamist than ever.

Three years ago Obama arrived in Cairo to open the door for the Muslim Brotherhood in the name of democracy and freedom. Now the Muslim Brotherhood is firmly shutting the door on democracy and freedom, while remilitarizing the Sinai and inching closer to dismantling the Camp David Accords. As Egypt slumps into tyranny under the Muslim Brotherhood, the death of the hopes that stirred in Tahrir Square mark the final dying throes of Obama’s failed Middle East policy.

    "…Obama's failed Middle East policy." seems to suggest that he and his operatives were somehow in the drivers' seat, as it were, as the "Arab Spring" bloomed into a bloody, protracted summer of struggle, subterfuge, and sedition throughout the Middle East. From Damascus to Doha, Tripoli to Tahrir Square, events have overtaken the politics and political leaders that hoped to contain them or, at very least, quash their effects upon their respective bodies politic. The only argument that I have with this article is that its headline seems to suggest that Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood somehow began this "descent into tyranny," to which the world bears witness. In country after country across the Mideast the "descent into tyranny" began decades ago, many times from regimes friendly to the United States' self-interest. Curiously, very little lamentation has been heard by the American public until recently…

    As for Obama personally, or his Regime – err – Administration generally, I believe he/they are weighing in on the vote of "present," like so many other squandered foreign policy opportunities… Meanwhile, the descent into tyranny continues with America, as the historic "policeman of the world community" standing silently by…

      Your are of course entitled to your opinion, which I believe is naive.

      There were multiple accounts of Obama's people (Dohrn, Jodie Evans of Code Pink, and their ilk) being present in Gaza at the time and other reports of these idealist leftists meddling in the affairs of these govts. Further there is a documentary by Al Jazeera which shows the Berkeley supposedly-behind-the-scenes type radicals in full control and implementation of the strategies in that square in Egypt which was supposedly a popular uprising but in my experience and observation was at least mostly instigated from the inside.

    I am willing to bet that Morsi rearranging the furniture in his cabinet will not consolidate his power, the Egyptian Military has in effect run the country for 50 years and will not cowtow to the Muslim brotherhood. Lets not forget that they annuled the parliamentary elections through the courts stripping the Muslim Brotherhood and other islamists of their victory, and did an end run with presidential powers right before Morsi got elected. Within six months they will fabricate a moral reason to remove, round up, encarcerate, and probably liquidate the Muslim Brotherhood no matter who the defence minister is.
    This is not a country that has had a recent history of normal civilian controled government with control over the military like the Germany of the 1920s and 30s, it has had instead a military government masquerading as a civilian one with a string of military men in civilian clothes, backed by a junta behind the scenes, starting with Gamal Abdel Nasser and ending with Hosni Mubarack. Even after Mubarack stepped down Egypt still remained under the control of the junta. How exactly is the Muslim Brotherhood going to consolodate power when the military junta still holds most of the cards, and the guns for that matter? I predict that as the economy in Egypt gets worse, food supplies run low, and unrest increases, there will be a coup followed by a civil war much like what is going on in Syria.

      I like your prediction and pray that it comes about. In the interim, Israel must get on its toes like a boxer and anticipate a left jab or uppercut, ready to duck and respond with force. Morsi strikes like a rattler without warning. The Sinai border has become a potential for the worst.

    The Muslim Brotherhood triumph in Egypt is a HUGE triumph for the Obama-Clinton administration. The U.S. administration want only governments run by hardliners and ruled under very strict Islamic sharia law.

    U.S. leaders worked to oust U.S. ally, moderate Mubarak, in order to bring to power American leaders' top FAVORITES, the Muslim Brotherhood whose stated goal is the DESTRUCTION of civilization and global Islamic conquest.

    The Muslim Brotherhood now feel they are safe to brutalize Christians under Egypt’s President Morsi who is a member of the Muslim Brotherhood whereas they would have been jailed under Mubarak's regime. President Obama by supporting the Muslim Brotherhood instead of the protesters calling for real Freedom has only helped in making things go from bad to worse, and unfortunately President Obama and his administration has continued to give support to the Muslim Brotherhood throughout the middle east. Again the protesters who want real Freedom need to stand up against this new tyrant who is worse than the last. Now hopefully America will vote President Obama and his administration out this November so as not continue the downward spiral in America and abroad. God Bless America.

      Good question. What are the other possible explanations for US foreign policy including the days of George “Islam is a Religion of Peace” Bush?
      Some Republicans were pushing Condi Rice for VP? Understandable since she her US Department of State presided over the establishment of two new Islamic states in Afghanistan and Iraq. That would be sterling credentials by the standards of those who attacked Michelle Bachman for questioning US Government security procedure in view of the evident infiltration.
      Going to war and establishing new theocracies with full access to the levers of state power developed by US taxpayers in order to permanently shackle the people of those nations is a hideous black mark on US history which is invisible to the in-country defenders of Islam (the press, Democratic Party, establishment Republicans and others FPM so well identifies).

      By the way, are there any security checks for those at the top, or is it just a matter of political connections and who you know or marry? That is the reason no one wants the investigation Bachman and others call for. I do not believe there is any criteria, documentation or signatures to be found because the hallmarks of bad security risks in personnel at the top are obvious. This might also be evidence of a lax security clearance system throughout our government.

    I read some place recently that Muslim clerics in Egypt are calling for the destruction of the Pyramids because they are icons to another religion. I think some act like that would really make the world stand up and take notice.
