The Venezuelan Confederation of Israelite Associations said in a statement that the demonstrators hurled fireworks inside the synagogue, disrupting activities and causing panic. The organization said the unidentified people shouted anti-Semitic slogans condemning Jews for the violence in the Middle East.
The organization called on the government to guarantee security at places of worship.
In 2009, a group of intruders broke into the same synagogue, shattering religious objects, spray-painting anti-Semitic slogans and stealing a computer database with names and addresses of Jews. Authorities later arrested 11 people, including eight police officers, for alleged involvement. Chavez condemned that attack.
So what if Chavez condemned the attack; its a safe bet that he's not losing any sleep over it, either. It will be interesting to see what happens to the perps. Attacks on Jews are fairly common in central and south America; in 1978 our old lefty friends, the Sandinistas, burned Managua's only synagogue to the ground, and chased the Jews out of the city.

I never really imagined South America in general giving a whole lot of a __t about Jews one way or the other, but the fact that those brain dead idiots attacked a SYNAGOGUE, which is by no means representative of anything Israel (not like an embassy or anything), it's as though they're finding a proxy scapegoat and engaging in anti semitism because they assume the Jews of the area have jack and __t to do with what's going on in Gaza.
