Anti-Israel Hypocrisy at the UN

Morocco, replacing Lebanon on the United Nations Security Council, wasted no time in raising the issue of Israeli settlements after a closed-door Security Council meeting on January 10th about the unrelated topic of Children and Armed Conflict. As the United States representative is reported to have pointed out, Morocco’s request was “ill-timed and counter-productive.” Morocco’s decision to begin its tenure on the Security Council by carrying the Palestinians’ torch on the Israeli settlements issue is also the height of hypocrisy, considering Morocco’s continuing illegal occupation of the Western Sahara territory and repression of its people who yearn for self-determination.

Expect to see a continuing effort to insert the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, particularly the settlements issue, on the Security Council agenda whenever the Palestinians’ allies, such as Morocco, possibly can. It’s all part of the Palestinians’ campaign to persuade more Security Council members to support the Palestinians’ bid for full UN membership and to isolate the United States diplomatically if it does not drop its veto threat. So far, the United States has not had to exercise its veto power because the Palestinians were unable last year to garner a majority of other members to support their application for membership.

Palestine’s Observer to the UN, Riyad Mansour, told UN correspondents last week that the Palestinians would employ “new creative ideas” to gain full membership in the United Nations:

Are we giving up because there is one powerful country that has a veto power saying the Security Council should not be involved? We’re not giving up. So now we’re coming up with these new creative ideas.

Mansour referred to a letter he had handed to Bass Sangqu, the UN Ambassador from South Africa, which holds the Security Council presidency for the month of January. The letter purports to document “crimes committed by the occupying authority against our people in the occupied territory, including the terrorist activities by the settlers against our civilian population.” And Mansour called for a report on Israeli settlements to the Security Council by the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights.

Mansour also announced that Secretary General Ban Ki-moon will be visiting Palestinian leaders in the West Bank within the month, presumably to report back to the Security Council their testimonials of Israeli “crimes.”

How about Ban Ki-moon adding to his itinerary a stop in the Western Sahara, illegally occupied by Morocco? The people of Western Sahara, which was once a Spanish colony, were entitled under international law to decide for themselves whether they wanted complete independence or association with another state after the colonizing power gave up control. Morocco never gave the people of Western Sahara this chance. Instead, it invaded and occupied their territory.

Why should Israel agree to a "two-state" solution with the Arabs who would destroy it? There are plenty of Arab states already. No, the so-called "Palestinians" are not ancient denizens of the land. They are Arabs, named "Palestinians" by Gamal Nasser, ruler of Egypt, and the Soviet Union in Cairo in 1964 who invented the "Palestine Liberation Organization" (P.L.O.) with all the phony history and propaganda to go along with it. The name "Palestine" meant "land of the Jews" or "the Holy Land" (since Jesus was a Jew), and "Palestinian" meant "Jew" from 135 A.D., when the Roman Emperor Hadrian, after having defeated the last Jewish rebellion under Bar Kochba, changed the name of Judea to "Palestina" in order to eradicate all memory of Judea. He also outlawed Judaism, and renamed Jerusalem "Aelia Capitolina" ("Aelius" being his gens name). That is why Great Britain, after World War I, was awarded the "Palestine Mandate" to be the "homeland of the Jews."
The only purpose for establishing yet another Arab state to be called "Palestine" is to destroy Israel. Their objection to the existence of Israel is religious, they being Mohammedan and haters of Jews.
Why shouldn't Jews settle in Judea and Samaria, called "the West Bank" in order to cover up that it is the area of Judea and Samaria? Why were Jews evicted from Transjordan, part of the British Palestine Mandate which Winston Churchill gave to the Husseini family of Arabia to reward them for their help against the Ottoman Empire in World War I?

Does anyone take the activities of arab and muslim countries in the united nations seriously? I presented a paper recently at a political science conference that recommended the withdrawal of the United States and other real democracies from the un. The main thesis was that the un supports tyranny and discourages individual freedom. The paper was not well received by the audience (though it was published).

Let's agree upon one thing, the UN and most international organizations are definitely prone to corruption; and for a perspective of which side the scales tilt, one only has to look at who has the most wealth to spend. Well done Mr Klein, I'm sure writing this fanciful piece has pleased your friends at AIPAC.

But for a more comprehensive view on Morocco's Sahara and the injustice this ancient Kingdom has faced as a consequence of colonialism, communism and the aforementioned corruption, this opinion from the former vice-president of the ICJ might shed some much needed light. http://www.icj-cij.org/docket/files/61/6205.pdf

Typical Zionist ploy: point to others' bad behavior to whitewash your own. Nobody's buying it any longer. Nothing mitigates the suffering to which you have condemned the Palestinian people. Asking Abbas and Haniyeh to negotiate in "good faith" with the Netanyahu regime while the latter continues to gobble up Palestinian land is laughable at best. One way or the other, however, Palestine will be free.

    • Ron Carnine says:

The fox is again watching the hen house. Putting a repressive Muslim country in charge of civil rights is a joke. Just like the UN is a joke. You keep talking about a "Zionist" ploy when the truth of the matter is the Palestinian's were offered everything they are demanding from Israel and turned it down. The only ploy is the Palestinians claiming they want to be a "state" when in reality, and by their own statements, the only thing they want is to destroy Israel. History, when studied truthfully, is against the Palestinians. It is also against the rest of the Arab countries that are the most repressive societies in the world. Palestine will never be free, because when and if they get their own "state" and all the non-Muslim's are removed, they will be like Iraq, they will turn on each other.

    • Viewpoint says:

The suffering of the Palestinian people has been orchestrated by fellow Muslims. Although most Palestinian refugees were eager to leave the refugee camps… and although Israel was eager to finance their relocation, not a single Muslim nation would grant them citizenship… because they fulfill a much more useful objective by being forced to remain refugees. First and foremost, to demonize Israel… and secondly, to keep the multi-billion$ of aid dollar$ flowing into their deep pockets. This was once again confirmed, just 4 months ago, when Palestinian ambassador Abdullah Abdullah emphatically stated in Sept. 2011 that Palestinian refugees will continue to remain refugees in a future Palestinian state and that they will not be considered citizens. (article linked below)

Israel can not gobble up Palestinian land because it has never belonged to
modern-day Palestinians. Palestinians are a newly created people… invented solely and instrumentally for the destruction of Israel.

"Nothing mitigates the suffering to which you have condemned the Palestinian people."

The Jews are the only true Palestinian people. Arab settler-colonist land-grabbers stealing the lands of the Palestinian people must abandon their ill-gotten gains for the sake of a just and viable peace. No justice, no peace!

"One way or the other, however, Palestine will be free."

And so it will—free of Arab colonists stealing it from its rightful owners, the Jews, the only true Palestinians. Soon, amen.

  13. Aadam says:

Nakba1948: in this case they're not even pointing out "others' bad behavior". Rather, they're criticizing Morocco for doing as Palestine: Reclaiming the land which they had annexed by foreign parties. The comical part of their criticism, the date of Israel's own claim upon the holy-land and the methods and means that it used to legitimize itself (terrorism and the UN – which they now dismiss).

sidefilippe: Yours is precise proof that "opinions are just like rear end[s]". Indeed, you're now proven to have at least two. But allow me to rephrase.
