To the leftists at Media Matters for America, even mere days after a suspected Islamist bomb plot was defused in Manhattan’s Times Square, national security is one big joke.

They could care less about U.S. security as long as they get to stick the knife in Glenn Beck, the Tea Party movement, conservatives, and others deemed enemies of George Soros’s utopian “open society.” It’s all about scoring against their political enemies and they don’t care if innocents get hurt in the process.

So it’s no surprise that the media bias analysts at the Soros-embraced “watchdog group” enjoy mocking Glenn Beck at every opportunity. They hate the Fox host and everything he represents, especially his ability to influence the nation’s political debate – I get it. But they’re playing with fire when they ridicule Beck for warning about the subversion threat posed by Venezuela’s communist strongman Hugo Chavez.

In response to the May 4 “Glenn Beck Program,” Media Matters posted a brief video clip from the show with the following snotty headline: New conspiracy theory: Beck suggests Chavez and others have sent in special teams to “nudge” U.S. toward “collapse.”

In the clip Beck is showing saying:

These are the guys…and we did this in Russia, we sent them in. We sent them in. we send them in when a country’s about to be toppled. [In the] Soviet Union we did it. I’m sure we did it in Poland. These are the guys that don’t overthrow regimes, they help. They just nudge. They help. Do you really think that we’re the only country that does that? Have you ever seen the revolutionaries in Colombia that hate America, want to destroy us, have been waiting for a big communist revolution? Do you really think [with] our open border nobody has been sent up here, just waiting, from all over the world? You think Hugo Chavez hasn’t thought, hey, go send a few people up there to help? [emphasis added]

While I have no proof Chavez has agents in the U.S., the notion isn’t as farfetched as Media Matters would suggest. Beck didn’t just conjure up the idea out of thin air.

Of course, some might have difficulty taking Chavez seriously. He’s the unstable fellow who blamed the devastating earthquake in Haiti on the United States and called President George W. Bush “the Devil” during a speech before the United Nations General Assembly.

But it’s important to remember that Chavez openly cooperates with terrorist groups Hamas, Hezbollah, and FARC. Hamas and Hezbollah have offices in Caracas and Chavez funds FARC. A congressional report indicates Iran’s fanatical Revolutionary Guard is active in Venezuela. A State Department report notes Venezuela’s close working relationship with terrorism-sponsoring Cuba.

But Media Matters, in their rush to condemn what they deem “conservative misinformation,” have flippantly dismissed the growing threat that the Chavez junta poses to the people of the United States.

Reformed leftist and FBI informant Brandon Darby has confirmed that when he visited Venezuela in 2006 Chavez’s henchmen tried to convince him to found an anti-American revolutionary terrorist group in Louisiana as the state struggled to regain its footing in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.

In the month he was in Venezuela, Chavez officials introduced him to executives of PDVSA, the government-owned oil company that owns CITGO, which operates a chain of gas stations in the U.S. They pressured Darby to journey to neighboring Colombia to meet with a group aligned with the narco-terror organization FARC and to visit another revolutionary group in Maracaibo, Venezuela. Darby refused.

Chavez already runs what political scientists call a “public diplomacy” campaign in the U.S. to help bolster American support for his regime.

The propaganda effort consists of funneling discounted home heating oil to former U.S. Rep. Joe Kennedy’s (D-Mass.) nonprofit group, Citizens Energy Corp. The nonprofit then distributes the oil to poor people, and useful idiot Kennedy gets to pose as a humanitarian.

The CITGO program is not terrorism – technically – but it is a soft attempt at domestic subversion. As such, Media Matters may make fun of Beck all they want, but I’m afraid that his theories about Venezuelan involvement in America aren’t that far-fetched – at all.

Racial bomb thrower and poverty pimp extraordinaire Al Sharpton came on the “Glenn Beck Program” and had a touchy-feely discussion with the host about, well, nothing.

The topic was supposed to be faith, hope, and charity, but instead Beck and Sharpton just patted themselves on the back for being so civil to each other and because they were enlightened enough to sit down and have a chat.

Whoopty do.

Beck lobbed softball after softball. He asked Sharpton, ”Would you agree that this country is as divided as it has been in a long, long time?”

Sharpton replied

I think that it is divided politically. I think there is still some institutional divide that we’ve got to challenge. But I also think that on some levels, there’s been a coming together in other areas. I think it has shifted.

It went on like that with Sharpton and Beck speaking in airy-fairy generalities. It was a weak segment to be sure and probably one of the weakest Beck has done on his show since he left CNN for FOX last year.

Meanwhile, Sharpton’s radical left-wing ACORN-wannabe pressure group is in serious financial trouble.

New York-based National Action Network Inc., owes a minimum of $1,556,059 in federal taxes and $108,489 in New York taxes, according to the Nexis tax liens database. Tax agencies typically file tax liens only after taxes have become significantly overdue and other collection methods have failed.

Rachel Noerdlinger, executive vice president of communications for the 19-year-old racial bomb-throwing group, said rumors of the group’s imminent demise were greatly exaggerated.

“NAN faced tremendous challenges in 2007 and 2008 but after reaching an agreement with state and federal tax authorities the problems have been resolved and NAN will present a very robust report where the organization is financially now and moving forward at our national convention in April,” she said.

The flamboyant, scandal-prone Sharpton, who sought the Democratic presidential nomination six years ago, is known for his taste for luxury and for his skill in ducking creditors. He once bragged to the New York Times that he didn’t own any business suits but had “access” to some. He would admit only to owning his wristwatch and wedding ring. His group ran up huge bills with a limousine service in New Jersey and had a $51,939 civil judgment entered against it in 2003.

I was listening to ”The Glenn Beck Program” on the radio while frantically trying to find the address of the Senior Citizen’s Center in an unfamiliar, nearby town. My daughter was scheduled to perform there and I was lost. Beck was talking about some senator who said that the U.S. resembled Prague in the eighties. “Crap,” I thought, “Is it that bad?”  The mixture of tension that I felt from what Beck was saying and the frustration of not being able to find my destination gelled into a sudden moment of clarity. For some time, I have been troubled by the threat posed by our ever growing Federal Government but have continued to go about my life. Shopping, driving kids around, and doing what I can politically- all while watching the government from the corner of my eye. The debate over Health Care Reform and the Slaughter Solution has caused me to refocus. The passage of  Obamacare in this underhanded fashion is the event for which we’ve been watching. Everything in my life, barring catastrophe, can wait until this bill is defeated.

“The Slaughter Solution“ strikes me as far more ominous than this and other “news” sources will report for two reasons. #1: “Slaughter” is a graphic and appropriate word for this procedure. If successful, politicians will no longer have to pay lip service to laws and the Constitution. How ironic is it that Louise Slaughter thought up this insidious solution? #2: The Democrat Party, (No, I wont call them the Democratic Party), tactic of changing the name from “The Slaughter Solution” to “Deeming” to make the idea more palatable, fails to persuade. Kings and Dictators of Banana Republics “deem” things to be so – not members of a Representative Republic.

Moreover, I am alarmed by the twisted abuse of reason, law, and procedure proposed by this solution. The aim of “The Slaughter Solution”  is to pass the Health Care Reform Bill by having the House vote on “fixes” to the Senate Bill rather than the Bill itself and then have the President sign the Frankenstein’s monster into law. This means that the House will pass a bill that they didn’t actually vote on. If this so called solution makes no sense to you, you’re not alone; evil schemes only make sense to dictators and useful idiots.

The danger of passing this epic bill via a procedural trick lies in the fact that, when accomplished, laws and rules become meaningless. If the Obama Administration can succeed in perpetrating this abuse despite the rules of the House, the Senate, and the will of the American people, what is left to hold the power of the Executive Branch in check? We have already seen the previously unimaginable become reality through the fascist takeover of our banks and car companies. Who has intervened to stop these unconstitutional takeovers? If the HCR Bill passes because of this procedure it will also mark the passage of our nation from Democratic Republic to Dictatorship. So, what are you doing this week?

I started listening to  The Glenn Beck Program in 2003.  One of the things that attracted me to the show was the opening music. It went something like “Glenn Beck, Glenn Beck. Yeah, he likes the sound of his name being rung..” or something like that. It was light-hearted and self deprecating- just like Glenn.

Over the years, the show has changed from political news and gags, to serious tutorials on Van Jones,  Anita Dunn, Marxism, Progressivism, Communism, and lots of other important “isms.” The music has reflected these changes.  The first change was to alarming telegraph sounds followed by the words of  40’s radio news reporters saying things like ”Something happening!” and “Oh the humanity!”, followed by droning and beat driven music. Not quite as cheerful and a touch ominous, but I understood the context and the homage to the history of the medium.

The alarm that the music sparked in me soon seeped into reality as I watched the country fall into peril overnight. I couldn’t help entertain the idea that Nostradamus was writing the music for the show. The music changed again a few weeks ago and this time it’s really creepy. Now it sounds like the musical collaboration of Nostradamus and Dracula.

The new music sounds a little like a rock anthem from the 80’s. The lyrics are “Just remember who we are.. we will be the key”, or maybe it’s “this is so cree-py”; I always mess up song lyrics. Then these sounds, that I can only describe as quiet nuclear bombs going off sounds, lead into some dark and stormy night piano playing. Did you know that if you play Pink Floyd’s album “The Dark Side of the Moon” to the movie “The Wizard of Oz” the music reflects the storyline in an eerie sort of way? I have discovered that Glenn’s new opening music lines up with the video for “A Total Eclipse of the Heart” by Bonny Tyler.

I hope that this music isn’t the harbinger of things to come. If so, we’re in for either one tragic ride into political hell or the perm is going to make a comeback. Either way, I think I need to listen to a little Air Supply.

Perhaps there’s some hope after all for America after the national suicide attempt in November 2008 that led to the election of the disastrous radical leftist Barack Obama as president.

By electing Republican Scott Brown as the 41st Senate vote against ObamaCare, voters in Massachusetts –of all places– have an opportunity on Tuesday to turn back the Democrats‘ aggressively socialist juggernaut that is destroying America as we know it.

When perennially risk-averse political prognosticators like Charlie Cook say that Republicans could grab the seat in the longtime liberal stronghold of Massachusetts, you know something serious is happening.

“The Democrats are in full freak-out mode now,” Michelle Malkin told guest host Eric Bolling on the “Glenn Beck Program” Friday. Said Malkin

I think that there’s something exquisitely poetic about this taking place in Massachusetts. After years worth of the burgeoning tea party movement, for it to happen in the home where the shot was heard around the world, this is an entirely new shot heard around the world. The fact is that — I mean, there are conservatives across the country who’ve united behind this candidate who promises to be the 41st vote to stop this Dem-care take over and to really send a huge message against the bribes, the payoffs, the backroom deals, the Chicago way on the Potomac.

Could Massachusetts become the birthplace of a new revolution, just as it gave birth to the first revolution? We’ll see.

Then there’s always the possibility of massive electoral fraud by ACORN. Note that ACORN national president Maude Hurd herself resides in Dorchester, Mass., and ACORN is actively involved in the get out the vote effort in the Bay State.

The Obama administration is using a nonprofit group to help make America more like socialist Europe, according to video aired on the Glenn Beck Program.

So says no less an authority than former Democratic National Committee chairman Howard Dean.

In Paris a few months ago, Dean described Organizing for America (OFA), as “a new innovation from Obama.” He continued

I think it’s a great thing for the Democratic Party. Remember I talked about the permanent campaign? Well, before I got to the DNC we didn’t have a permanent campaign. You would campaign for one year when you had a candidate and then if you didn’t win you wouldn’t campaign for 3 years. No wonder we’d lose. Now we not only have a permanent campaign for electing Democrats, we have a permanent campaign for influencing policy. It brings us a little closer to the European model.

Dean was referring to Organizing for America (OFA), the activist arm of the Democratic National Committee. OFA is the outgrowth of Obama for America, the president’s campaign to win the White House. OFA exists to unceasingly agitate for radical change.

President Obama has also used Organizing for America to openly campaign against former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, who isn’t running for anything. OFA is trying to raise money to fight Palin, calling her “dangerous” because she opposes the efforts of Democrats to ram socialist medicine down the throats of unwilling Americans.

This really shouldn’t be that surprising given that America’s first Marxist president is always in campaign mode.

President Obama’s rambling, incoherent West Point speech on the war is also part of his neverending permanent campaign, Glenn Beck said on his TV show yesterday. But, Beck added

I think everybody is missing the point on Obama’s speech last night. I mean it wasn’t just a speech on war. This was more of a political speech. You see – the campaign has never stopped. It’s 24/7 now.

ACORN boss and embezzlement coverup co-conspirator Bertha Lewis spins a yarn about ACORN at Washington, D.C.'s National Press Club yesterday.

The current chief organizer of ACORN, who was up to her eyeballs in the $1 million embezzlement scandal at the embattled radical leftist group, lied and lied and lied some more in an appearance at the National Press Club yesterday.

The contemptible Bertha Lewis, who now prefers to call herself “CEO” of ACORN, gave a “grand performance” at the press club, Glenn Beck said on his TV show Tuesday. Beck’s right. Maybe she should get nominated for an Oscar.

A small sample of the untruths that issued from her mouth:

CLAIM: After news of the embezzlement broke, ACORN “immediately hired outside professionals, no organizers. We may be brilliant organizers, but we needed real financial professionals, real legal professionals, to come in.”

FACT: If ACORN actually hired such people, it has kept evidence of those hirings under wraps. I don’t believe her.

CLAIM: Lewis says ACORN “began the decoupling of over a hundred corporations and organizations under my watch. We took apart that network with transparency and stability.”

FACT: I am not aware of any evidence supporting Lewis’s claim. Prove it, ACORN. Talk is cheap.

CLAIM: “And for nearly 40 years, ACORN has had the privilege to stand with our 500,000 member families fighting for those who typically don’t have a voice.”

FACT: ACORN’s own website says it has “over 400,000 member families,” whatever that means. Yes, 500,000 is more than 400,000, but you can’t just round up from an indefinite figure like “over 400,000.”

Those are just a few of Lewis’ lies from yesterday.

Nor did Lewis say much about her own role in covering up the embezzlement perpetrated by founder Wade Rathke’s brother. After news of the theft broke, Lewis drove out honest ACORN national board members who dared to ask questions.

Lewis, who has high-level contacts within the Marxist governments of Venezuela and Bolivia, also brought out the good ole stand-by smear yesterday, i.e. that everyone who criticizes ACORN is racist. Fortunately, now that the undercover sting videos last month showed Americans the true face of ACORN, the smear, which used to send Republicans and other ACORN critics running, isn’t working too well.

Of course the New York Times highlighted the only part of Lewis’s talk that appealed to it, namely her assertion that ACORN is somehow a victim of a new kind of McCarthyism.  Said Lewis (according to a press club transcript):

The RNC, every single day, because we’ve been inflated as the bogeyman, raises almost $2 million dollars a day every day. And this form of modern day ACORN McCarthyism has got to stop. Last week, members of Congress were asked, “Are you now or have you ever been a member of ACORN?” Everybody should take pause at that. Everybody should say, “Wait a minute. Wait a minute. This is not how we have discourse. This is not how we have disagreement in this country, by demonizing someone without due process.” This whole voting to de-fund ACORN, it’s all sensational, but it’s unconstitutional. So all we’re saying is, you know, hold us to a standard of the law. Then hold the folks that made those films to the same standard of the law.

Bhargava is executive director of the radical left-wing community organizing group, the Center for Community Change (CCC). Founded in 1968, the group is dedicated to defending welfare entitlements and leftist anti-poverty programs.

CCC bases its training programs on techniques expounded by the famed radical organizer Saul Alinsky. Following Alinsky’s blueprint for establishing “grassroots” organizations to agitate for social change, the Center claims it has “nurtured thousands of local groups and leaders” across the United States.

Bhargava was shown giving a speech in December last year. He said that “big and bold solutions” were needed for America and that community organizers were going to be involved in “building a new economy for shared prosperity and expanding our democracy.”

Of course when radical leftists use the term democracy they don’t mean what regular Americans mean when they use the term. To the far left, it is a code word for socialism itself.

Bhargava also said that the socialist agenda is now moving forward by stealth.

The Center for Community Change is a member of the United for Peace and Justice anti-war coalition, which is led by Leslie Cagan, a longtime committed socialist who aligns her politics with those of Fidel Castro’s Communist Cuba.

The Center is financially supported by such foundations as the Ahmanson Foundation, the Morris and Gwendolyn Cafritz Foundation, the Carnegie Corporation of New York, the Annie E. Casey Foundation, the Nathan Cummings Foundation, the Fannie Mae Foundation, the Ford Foundation, the Joyce Foundation, the Scherman Foundation, the Open Society Institute, the David and Lucile Packard Foundation, the Public Welfare Foundation, the Rockefeller Foundation, the Surdna Foundation, and the Woods Fund of Chicago.

On Tuesday’s “O’Reilly Factor,” Glenn Beck explained why he doesn’t trust public schools to educate his children:

Because I saw a change in my older kids when they went to school. And I also — I just don’t like revisionist history. I don’t like the fact — when my daughter, my second to oldest daughter decided she was going to go to college and she was going to study ancient history, I said, “How about some current history? You know, America is kind of good. How about, you know, studying some…”

The enthusiastic home-schooling father said his daughter told him, ”Dad, American history, every time I look into it, we’re always on the wrong side. We always are doing the wrong thing.”

This depressed Beck. He said he thought to himself that if his daughter, growing up in his household which is filled with flag-waving and patriotism “she still can’t beat it…there’s no chance.”

Works for me.

Beck examined another piece of leftist propaganda on a recent show. That anti-capitalist, anti-individualist video made by former Greenpeace employee Annie Leonard and the extreme-left Tides Center, is being shown to schoolchildren across America.

Meanwhile, the doltish Joy Behar of the TV show “The View” trashed Beck. “He was an alcoholic and a drug addict at one time … and it sort of follows, yeah, that he would be crazy now,” she said. Keep it classy, Joy.

Glenn Beck said yesterday that President Obama shouldn’t be jetting off to Copenhagen, Denmark, in order to help promote Chicago’s bid for the 2016 Olympics.

While the president is jetsetting around the world, he’s ignoring his responsibilities as America’s military commander-in-chief, Beck argued.

The troops that are coming home dead from Afghanistan. And, while he’s found the time to talk to everyone but the Food Network and FOX News about his Chicago White Sox, Obama has only had one meeting with his national security advisers to discuss the 66-page memo from General Stanley McChrystal from August, which says troops are urgently needed.

General McChrystal, Beck said the other day, still hasn’t received orders from the president about troop strength in Afghanistan. McChrystal says an extra 30,000 soldiers are needed to train local troops and beat the Taliban.

The report was submitted in late August but the president hasn’t bothered to make a decision yet, Beck said.

McChrystal said the troops are urgently needed “or we lose,” in Afghanistan.

Besides condemning anyone committing the latest “sin” — that is, referring to “illegal immigrants” as, er, “illegal immigrants” — Media Matters‘ “senior fellows” are now devoting their considerable energy and financial resources to one of the pressing issues of our time: whether or not Glenn Beck is lying about the way his mother died.

Like you, I’ve been unable to sleep at night, obsessing about the details of a total stranger’s death by drowning back in 1979.

(If only Media Matters allotted this much online real estate to another young woman’s untimely watery demise; however, typing “Mary Jo Kopechne” into the Media Matters search function yields only four mentions, all of them chiding conservatives for being so gauche as to mention the name of the young woman who died forty years ago when she was a passenger in a car that Senator Ted Kennedy drove off a bridge.)

Using recent stories at Salon.com and other outlets as a launching pad, Media Matters informs readers that:

Early one morning in May 1979, a 41-year-old divorcee named Mary Beck went boating in Washington’s Puget Sound. Her companions on the expedition were a retired papermaker named Orean Carrol, whose boat she helped launch near the Tacoma suburb of Puyallup, and Carrol’s pet dog. Exactly what happened next remains shrouded in morning mist, but among the crew, only the dog would survive the day. The boat was recovered late that afternoon adrift near Vashon Island, just north of Tacoma. It was empty but for two wallets and the frightened animal. Mary Beck’s body was discovered floating fully clothed nearby. Carrol’s corpse washed ashore at the Vashon ferry terminal the following morning.

You have to scroll pretty far down the page, however, to get to this paragraph:

“Coast Guardsman theorize that Mrs. Beck, who had a history of heart problems [and chemical abuse] and also was thought to be having a nervous breakdown, might have fallen overboard or jumped overboard,” the report says, adding that “[Mrs. Beck's companion] Carroll attempted to save her and the result being both victims drowning.”

But what does the Coast Guard know? Sure, they were actually there, and know all about water and boats and drowning and stuff, but did any of these Coast Guard guys ever intern for a billionaire-funded “media watchdog” site? Ha! Idiots!

And how’s this for damning?

Beck’s father did not return a call seeking comment for [the Salon.com] story.

See?! He’s clearly covering something up! Why else would a widower refuse to talk about his troubled wife’s death to a mainstream media reporter? But wait, there’s more:

Beck, who has talked generally about his mother’s death on the air and in interviews but has provided few details, this week declined The News Tribune’s request for an interview.

“Provided few details?” How dare he?

Oh, and Glenn Beck is modeling his life and career on that of fellow Washingtonian… Kurt Cobain. Which I totally picked up on the first time I saw Beck wearing a big plaid shirt and strumming a guitar.

I’ll ask again: Is George Soros (the billionaire leftist who bankrolls Media Matters) getting his money’s worth?

They say you know you’re over the target when you’re drawing flak.

Last week, the George Soros-funded, self-styled media watchdog group Media Matters for America sent out an urgent fund raising email, which read in part:

The conservative media has a hit list, and, as you know, ACORN is its most recent target. Right-wing talkers like Glenn Beck and Sean Hannity aren’t going to give up on their own. That’s why we have to fight them at every turn, exposing the profound hypocrisy and total lack of journalistic standards that define their so-called reporting. We need your support to keep up the fight (…)

In a new study released yesterday, Media Matters for America methodically exposes how both Beck and Hannity have spent years obsessively attacking ACORN under the guise of exposing corruption at an organization that receives government funding.

The email contrasts the amount of coverage Hannity and Beck have devoted to ACORN maleficience to the number of reports they’ve done about favored leftwing whipping boys Blackwater, Halliburton, and Kellogg, Brown, and Root (KBR).

Media Matters calls this imbalance of coverage “hypocrisy” (the only “sin” many leftists acknowledge) three times in this message, before asking for donations to fight it:

Please consider making a donation to our efforts today, and we will put every cent of your contribution toward fighting the rampant conservative misinformation in the media.

We cannot let these extreme conservative media figures get away with this kind of hypocrisy. Please help us continue to fight back against agenda-driven “journalism” bent on propagating misinformation from the conservative echo chamber to the mainstream media.

(Has anyone else ever noticed that presumptuous leftists have so internalized collectivism, and are so hostile to the notion of private property,  that they’re always “outraged” when somebody else’s media organ doesn’t deign to report something they consider important? The notion that Hannity’s or Beck’s programs are “publicly traded” idea factories or open source media “utilities,” obliged to present everyone’s point of view, is one leftists can’t seem to shake. Case in point: the radical Muslims who took Canada’s largest magazine to court for refusing to run an article they’d written. Yes, that actually happened.)

What stands out most in the Media Matters fundraising email is its tone of flop-sweat desperation.

Code Pink and the leftist blogs spent years trying to get ordinary citizens to care about those supposedly sinister boogeymen Halliburton and Blackwater, without success. Then along comes Glenn Beck and Sean Hannity, not to mention a pair of intrepid guerrila filmmakers, and within a few weeks, the whole country’s talking about ACORN. (When the name of a once-obscure “social justice” coalition becomes a Jay Leno punchline, you know the issue has filtered down to the masses.)

But speaking of “hypocrisy,” isn’t it telling that Media Matters insists again and again that ACORN is a benevolent organization that should be immune from scrutiny?

Apparently, the “feminists” at Media Matters missed the parts in the undercover video where ACORN employees matter of factly approved of, and offered to subsidize, the child sex-trade.

Are female employees at Media Matters (assuming they have any) merely, well, hypocrites? Or are they (to use another beloved leftist smear) “sell outs”? I guess if you agree with those videotaped ACORN employees that there’s nothing wrong with prostitution… aw, skip it.

What has Media Matters worried isn’t that a dearth of tedious stories about Halliburton has somehow damaged the body politic. We all know what’s really got them worried: the tangled ACORN web is being publicly unraveled, exposing to derision (and possible legal action) the entire leftist coalition of guilty white millionaires, radical “social activists” and other busybodies, and most of all, the unions.

One union in particular: When they aren’t beating up black men at townhalls, Service Employees International Union (SEIU) staffers are busily filtering your tax dollars, through ACORN, to various political causes.

As Kathleen Parker explains today in the Washington Post:

You also don’t talk about either organization without mention of Wade Rathke, co-founder of ACORN and founder of SEIU Local 100 in New Orleans. Rathke, who resigned from ACORN last year as “chief organizer” after it became known that his brother embezzled almost $1 million from the association, continues to run Local 100, as well as ACORN International, recently renamed Community Organizations International.

ACORN under Rathke created SEIU Local 100 (Louisiana, Arkansas, Mississippi and Texas) and SEIU Local 880 (Illinois, Indiana and Kansas). In turn, the SEIU wrote checks to ACORN for political activities and union organizing, according to ACORN whistle-blower affidavits. In 2008, the SEIU and Change to Win, a coalition of labor unions, gave ACORN $1,729,462, according to union financial reports filed with the Labor Department.

Parker adds that this “coziness has been long known among conservative watchdog groups, but Washington has paid little attention until now.”

“Conservative watchdog groups” like our very own Discover the Networks. We didn’t merit a mention in that Media Matters fundraising pitch, but who knows: maybe we’ll make it into the next one.

Come to think of it, maybe the next begging letter will compare the amount of mainstream media coverage that that union-thug beating of Kenneth Gladney received with that devoted to, say, the notorious murder of another African-American man, James Byrd. Just a thought.

Glenn Beck took a rare foray into foreign policy and international relations on his TV show Thursday. He complained that President Obama postures, acting as if his entire domestic agenda must be enacted without a moment’s delay. In the meantime, the President takes his sweet time acting on matters of national security.

“May I ask you respectfully, Mr. President, Why does it seem like everything else on your agenda has to be done immediately, but when it comes to our troops…ahhhh, I’ll think about that,” Beck said, using a comedic gesture.

One of the first things President Obama did upon assuming office was embark on a world apology tour, seeking the world’s forgiveness. Beck showed footage of the president addressing Europeans:

In America there’s a failure to appreciate Europe’s leading role in the world. Instead of celebrating your dynamic union and seeking to partner with you to meet common challenges there have been times when America’s shown arrogance and been dismissive even derisive.

Beck said we were told the Waxman-Markey climate bill had to be passed immediately or Des Moines, Iowa was going to be submerged in the Gulf of Mexico, and Bangor, Maine was going to burst into flames.

And if we didn’t get health care reform passed by yesterda,y billions would die and the few left alive would be bankrupt and homeless if they ever caught a cold.

Yet President Obama still hasn’t decided on Army General Stanley McChrystal’s recommendations about troop strength in Afghanistan, Beck noted. McChrystal says an extra 30,000 soldiers are needed to train local troops and beat the Taliban.

The report was submitted in late August but the president hasn’t bothered to make a decision yet, Beck said.

Apparently, it’s some “Senior Fellow’s” job at Media Matters to watch Glenn Beck’s FOX News show, then report on which companies are still running commercials in his time slot.

Let’s review, shall we? A group originally co-founded by disgraced ex-Green Jobs Czar Van Jones took exception to Beck’s exposes of Jones’ radical past and beliefs — exposes that led directly to Jones’ ousting from the White House.

The group, Color of Change, organized a boycott of Beck’s sponsors. The boycott is now a few months old, and Color Of Change boasts that it’s been a great success.

Except it hasn’t been. Because it was doomed from the start.

As I’ve documented elsewhere: Color of Change has only succeeded in:

a) alienating potential future allies in corporate America, which is populated by lots of guilt-ridden liberal do-gooders with deep pockets

b) smearing other companies like RadioShack — who’ve never advertised on Beck’s show but were stupidly added to the boycott list

c) looking like idiots, since the companies Color of Change is “boycotting”, such as WalMart, are ones left wing activists never patronized to begin with

d) firing up Beck’s large and loyal fan base, who quickly organized a “buy-cott” of the blacklisted companies.

But wait: there’s more.

Last week, I received an email from a network TV veteran who told me the boycott was even dumber than I’d ever imagined.

I’d still been using expressions like “day parts,” pointing out that Beck’s sponsors had simply shifted their ad buys to different FOX shows. The targeted advertisers may have been forced to douse a few P.R. fires, but FOX itself wasn’t out one red cent.

That’s not the half of it, the broadcasting insider explained to me. You see, the way the cable TV industry is set up, a boycott of its advertisers literally cannot succeed.

He’s allowed me to reprint his message, on the condition of anonymity:

You need to have an insider’s view of why the boycott against Glenn Beck is so laughable.

One of the major differences between broadcast operations and cable networks is how they generate income. For broadcasters advertising dollars rule the day. But in cable it is subscriber fees.

Each cable net charges the cable/satellite operator a fee for carriage. You set a rate and once you reach a certain saturation point you begin to make money. It doesn’t matter at that point if you sell ads or not.

In return the operator gets inventory to sell in the networks. So the operators and the networks get cash directly from the viewers and whatever ad money they generate is mere icing on the cake. Fox News could run PSA’s and AbCruncher spots 24/7 and still make money. (…)

The other laugh is this: 18 million of Fox News Channel’s viewers are on DirecTV… that’s owned by NewsCorp. Those fees go into Murdoch’s pocket if FNC aired a test pattern, let alone Glenn Beck.

In other words: cable tv makes money from viewers’ monthly subscriptions to their services. Any ad revenue they rake in later is just gravy.

But here’s the point: this pathetic Glenn Beck “boycott” is yet another example of a theme I’ve been harping on for some time: the activist left lives in the past. Their entire worldview is past its “best before” date. Yet they persist in deploying the strategies and tactics of a romanticized past — then lash out at the rest of us when these tactics inevitably fail.
