Does Mohamed Elibiary, who is called in this ridiculous puff piece “the country’s leading Muslim deradicalization expert,” need to deradicalize himself? After all, he was one of the speakers at a December 2004 conference in Dallas entitled “A Tribute to the Great Islamic Visionary,” Ayatollah Khomeini. When Rod Dreher of the Dallas Morning News called him on this, he threatened Dreher, telling him: “Expect someone to put a banana in your exhaust pipe.”

I have met Mohamed Elibiary. He is a slick fellow. You can read here his dancing and obfuscation about deception in Islam and other matters, in a long exchange we had here at Jihad Watch. Read it carefully, noting the questions I ask him and the answers he gives to them, and ask yourself whether he really is or ought to be thought of as “the country’s leading Muslim deradicalization expert” — not that there is any more suitable candidate out there.

“Many Muslims quietly working to head off radicalism,” by Eileen Flynn for the Austin American-Statesman, February 6 (thanks to Ed):

In 2008, a New York woman feared her brother, a troubled young Muslim man living in New York, might be getting involved in a violent radical group in Pakistan. So she called a cleric in Houston for advice. The cleric in turn called Mohamed Elibiary, head of the Plano-based nonprofit Freedom and Justice Foundation.Elibiary, who has quietly emerged as the country’s leading Muslim deradicalization expert, devised an intervention that played on the young man’s familial duties and got him to return to the United States where counselors and mentors steered him away from militant extremism.

That case is detailed in a new report from the Washington Institute for Near East Policy, a think tank that has compiled stories of other would-be terrorists who abandoned their violent plans.

And it’s a reminder that in the aftermath of last year’s Fort Hood shootings and the recent terrorism-related arrests of young Muslim Americans, we need people like Elibiary working with government and law enforcement….

Of course, people like Elibiary, and only people like Elibiary, are already working closely with government and law enforcement.

The objective of the Zinnians, the Neo-Communists of today, and the Old Left Communists of 70 years ago is identical and summarized in this image.

The death of Howard Zinn has brought the neo-Communists out of the woodwork, the latest example being Scott McLemee’s tribute to Zinn (and casual smearing of anti-Comunists like Ron Radosh) in the current issue of InsideHigherEd.com. I have noted in the past that while we have terms like neo-liberal and neo-conservative and neo-fascist, there is no term for neo-communists — or rather there is a term but thanks to the successful efforts of the neo-communist left anyone who uses such a term is immediately labeled a McCarthyite. It’s time for a change. A neo-communist is someone who reflects the same values, draws on the same analytic tradition and embraces the communist-progressive political tradition — and thus has no problem with Howard Zinn’s unrepentant support for the murderers of tens of millions of innocent people in Russia, in China, in Vietnam — and whose political and intellectual efforts are designed to weaken and delegitimize America in the face of its current enemies.

Before libelblogger Charles Johnson of Little Green Footballs betrayed all his principles, friends and allies, he had held voting for The Fallaci. The Fallaci was an award given to a stalwart warrior for human rights against the global jihad, and was named for my dear and much-missed friend, the magnificent freedom fighter Oriana Fallaci, to whom I paid tribute here.

But as Johnson began to convert Little Green Footballs from a site for freedom's defense into a cesspool of defamation, hate, personal destruction and tired Leftist cliches, he (not surprisingly) quietly deep-sixed The Fallaci, and that was that -- until the good folks at The Blogmocracy (formerly known as Little Green Footballs 2, until the bile-choked libelblogger threatened legal action) revived it. And now the voting is on!

I am honored to note that I am among the candidates, but in this illustrious company I should not win, and you shouldn't vote for me. Stop by The Blogmocracy and vote for Geert Wilders! And thanks to the folks over there for reviving this award.

The superb award graphic above, by the way, is the work of the excellent anti-jihad artist Bosch Fawstin.

"Fundamentalists reacted to the piece, placed on an internet music store website, because it included backing music of an Islamic prayer." Muhammad harbored an intense hostility to music (among other things); hence, this gesture was taken as an insult, and threats of violence predictably ensued.

"Polish Disc Jockey Threatened By Islamic Fundamentalists," from The Outlook, January 17 (thanks to John Doe):

Warsaw, Poland 17 January 2010 - Islamic fundamentalists posted death threats against a Polish disk jockey soon after he published a song that he says was supposed to be a tribute to the Muslim culture.

It started on Christmas Eve.

Jakub Rene Kosik, a 27-year-old DJ from Poland excused himself from the dinner table and checked his Facebook. Word of his newest composition, Mekka, was out. And it was ill-received.

"You messed with Islam," the first message read. "We'll never forgive what you did to our religion," read another. "You played with us, now we'll play with you." "We're everywhere. Forget your international career." By morning he had more than 300 such messages.

Fundamentalists reacted to the piece, placed on an internet music store website, because it included backing music of an Islamic prayer.

"I smiled stupidly and told my girlfriend "I think they want to kill me for this composition". In the first instant, she didn't react. Afterwards she was hysteric," Kosik said.

"I had mixed feelings. My first thought was, "great, publicity". Later I started thinking if I didn't in fact really hurt these people. But my composition was supposed to be a tribute to their culture.

"I'm atheist. But I was raised with respect to different religions and philosophical opinions."

The threats and negative comments, including one from an 8-year-old French boy - "Jakub Rene Kosik - die dog" - resulted in sleepless nights for the artist. He replied to the threats, each one individually, apologized and explained it was never his intention to offend anyone's religious sentiment. But it wasn't until he removed the piece from the sites that the taunts subsided.

Kosik denied accusations of a publicity stunts and said he doesn't feel any more popular and hasn't been invited to any more parties than usual.

"I am bitter that I was treated that way by fundamentalists. And I pity them that they aren't able to see things more liberally," Kosik said....

One goal of the David Horowitz Freedom Center’s annual Restoration Weekend is to pay tribute to the men and women in uniform serving the country overseas. This year’s salute to the military featured remarks by Michigan Congressman Thaddeus McCotter, who movingly recounted why America’s troops choose to make such heroic sacrifices. A video of McCotter’s speech can be seen here. — The Editors
