Joe Biden wants former North Carolina health boss Mandy Cohen to head the federal Centers for Disease Control. Gov. Roy Cooper is on record that “anybody would be fortunate to have her,” but Cohen’s advocacy for lockdowns and child masking gives people cause to wonder.
“Someone in the confirmation hearing should ask the new @cdcgov director nominee about how she got the science so consequentially wrong,” tweeted professor Jay Bhattacharya of Stanford medical school. “Lots of bad answers possible.” Cohen’s career before the COVID pandemic is also of interest.
Mandy Cohen earned a degree in policy analysis and management from Cornell, a master’s degree in public health from Harvard, and a medical degree from Yale. How much time Dr. Cohen spent practicing medicine is unclear, and the Ivy League product inclined to bureaucracy and politics.
In 2008, Cohen served as an outreach director for “Doctors for Obama,” which called the Illinois Democrat’s health plan “the best hope for improving quality, controlling health care costs, and guaranteeing access to health care for all Americans.” The doctors and medical students also believed that “Barack Obama is the leader most capable of taking on special interests and advancing a serious, bipartisan effort for healthcare reform.”
After the election, the group was rebranded “Doctors for America,” and Mandy Cohen served as executive director. Cohen also served as chief operating officer and chief of staff at the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
Obama’s Healthcare.gov was a “major failure” with costs of the dysfunctional website ballooning from $97 million to $1.7 billion. Cohen was reportedly “called upon to fix it,” but accounts of her performance are hard to find.
In 2017, Gov. Cooper tapped Cohen to run North Carolina’s Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS. During the COVID pandemic, she became the face of the administration’s response, holding more than 100 press conferences.
Under Cohen, North Carolina closed and restricted schools, restaurants, gyms, bars, sports and entertainment venues, playgrounds, public spaces and businesses, with the shutdowns enduring for months. Cohen preached mask wearing, social distancing and hand washing, all of dubious value.
In August of 2020, Mandy Cohen posted a photo of herself wearing a mask bearing a portrait of Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), since 1984 and an NIH employee since 1968.
“I like my Dr. Fauci mask,” Cohen wrote, and “they can be fun too.” No word about possible harm from mask wearing, particularly for children. Dr. Fauci recommended that people wear no masks, one mask, and even two masks. The NIAID boss, who claimed to represent science, had no scientific explanation for the change. For her part, Dr. Cohen dragged mask mandates well into 2021, and threatened legal action against a school district if they failed to follow her rules on contact tracing and quarantine.
Like Dr. Fauci, Mandy Cohen’s bio shows no advanced degrees in molecular biology or biochemistry. Even so, the North Carolina health boss was a hawk on vaccines, neglecting to tell the people that the potions promoted by Dr. Fauci did not prevent infection or transmission. Dr. Fauci and Joe Biden, vaccinated and boosted to the max, both tested positive for COVID.
In January of 2022, Dr. Cohn left her government post to work for Aledade, “a company that aligns with my core values and vision for the future of health care.” The company’s mission is “to build a more equitable, health-focused, proactive, and trusted system.”
In similar style, Biden CDC director Dr. Rochelle Walensky, departing at the end of June, had the goal of “moving CDC – and public health – forward into a much better and more trusted place.” It isn’t that way now.
About one-fourth of Americans trust the CDC “not very much” or “not at all,” according to a survey conducted in February 2022 by the agency’s own researchers. That is four times worse than the level of trust for doctors and nurses. That dismal reality is not likely to improve under Dr. Fauci fan Mandy Cohen.
Like Dr. Anthony Fauci, Cohen abandoned the practice of medicine for a career in bureaucracy. Like the NIAID boss, she locked down schools and masked up the children, with no scientific justification. Like Fauci, she ignored the basic rules of informed consent and “first do no harm.”
According to professor Bhattacharya, Dr. Cohen got the science “consequentially wrong.” In the confirmation hearing, someone might also get her take on the origin of the COVID pandemic. Dr. Fauci maintained that the COVID virus arose naturally in the wild, and branded everything else a conspiracy theory.
By contrast, when former CDC director Robert Redfield found evidence of a laboratory origin, he got death threats. No word of any FBI investigation, but director Christopher Wray now assesses that “the origins of the pandemic are most likely a potential lab incident in Wuhan.”
So many questions for Dr. Mandy Cohen, who is basically Dr. Anthony Fauci in drag. If the Biden pick gets the post, the CDC will continue as an agency of white coat supremacy. Rule over the people by unelected medical bureaucrats is now inherent in the system.
“Meet the new boss
same as the old boss.”
Won’t Get Fooled Again, The Who
I’d like to know her links with the World pHarma Organisation.
Cohen is quack in a white coat
Mandy Cohen — a true Bolshevik apparatchik
Cohen should not be confirmed but this article is filled with half truths.
rMNA research started in the 80’s. It is not new. Plus, enhanced and evaluated testing was done. Prior to its release the Left hated the vaccines because Trump was pushing for them and he couldn’t be allowed to do something good. After Biden stole the election the vaccine was good. Politics is a silly nasty game played by silly nasty people who want power.
The government and the media did an absolutely terrible job of explaining what the CDC/FDA said in December, 2020. The efficacy, how the vaccines performed in a controlled environment, was around 92% for Moderna and Phizer. Johnson and Johnson was a distant 73% but it was a 1 shot deal, not 2.
That meant how effective the vaccines would be in the outside world could be expected to be less. Somewhere around 10% of the vaccinated people would not be protected. Plus, like the flu and tetanus vaccines the vaccines weakened over time and needed boosted or replaced,
The secondary benefit of reduced symptoms was initially not touted because it was thought the public would not consider that beneficial enough to take the vaccine. IOW Facui and his ilk thought the public was too dumb to understand. This belief is typical of the Left.
Covid’s killing field early on was known to be the .elderly, the obese and others with a comprised immune system. They should have been the target, not the young and healthy below 55 adults. Lock downs were never needed.
Thanks Lloyd. Another thing to watch out for, totalitarianism via the health care system.
Here’s just one of my objections to her: “Cohen earned a bachelor’s degree in policy analysis and management.” That’s her entrée to medical school. Not chemistry, so she can decipher pharma studies. Not some other actual science. It’s an increasingly common matter because gpa is primary in med school admissions and loyalty to pharma follows. Left far behind is real analysis and understanding.
I’d like to know her views on “gender fluidity.” I think that would tell us a lot about her dedication to actual science.
