The media is calling what happened to Target a “Pride Month backlash”. That’s not true. Target has been doing Pride Month for a long time. So have most major corporations. They’re not being boycotted over that.
Bud Light got hammered for endorsing Dylan Mulvaney’s contemptuous mockery and transgender displacement of women. Target did even worse by pushing destructive and harmful ‘chest binders’ for young girls.
Now Target has lost an estimated $10 billion in value after promoting “chest binders”. These dangerous and damaging pieces of equipment are meant to groom girls into identifying as boys. The chest binders were allegedly being sold in sizes as small as XS. The company also offered baby onesies and bibs promoting transgenderism.
It’s positively medieval.
One teenager wrote, “Binders tend to be used as a temporary solution to the problem of having breasts and cannot be worn at all times. During exercise they can restrict breathing, and back and chest pain can come from wearing them for more than about eight hours at a time. You should also never sleep with a binder on.”
A 20-year-old wrote in and said, “The longer I used binding, the more I could feel my body deteriorating. The physical pain got worse but so did the emotional. Slowly I began living a life where I couldn’t not bind. The initial euphoria of flatness turned into never being able to get flat enough. My body aches every day, I no longer have the lung capacity I once had, and my ribs have inverted. I fear breaking one when I sneeze.”
Target also promoted transgender swimsuits and other means of eliminating women. The overpriced store chain didn’t just get caught in a backlash from conservatives, but from plenty of women who hate this stuff.
And women are Target’s customer base.
Even with the boycott underway, CEO Brian Cornell and Target dismissed customer objections to its war on women.
Cornell claimed that Target’s “focus on diversity and inclusion and equity has fueled much of our growth over the last nine years.” In reality, it’s lost the company billions of dollars.
Now Cornell is admitting that the boycott hurt and trying to assure angry investors that Target learned something from it.
Target said shopper backlash over its Pride Month collection, as well as cautious consumers, pushed sales sharply lower in the most recent quarter.
The retailer said it expected sales to decline again in the current quarter and lowered its profit goal for the full year. Executives said they would still mark Pride Month next year but with a more focused assortment of merchandise.
“As we navigate an ever-changing operating and social environment, we are applying what we learned,” Brian Cornell, Target’s longtime chief executive, said on a call with reporters.
Meaningful? Only in that things are bad enough that Cornell is trying to reassure investors that the store is going to try to avoid future boycotts when it rolls out its sales. Is that sincere? No, but it telegraphs vulnerability, opens the door for activist investors and future boycotts.
In other words, Target is afraid. Doesn’t mean it’s going to abandon its leftist social agenda.
The company will shift how it sells Pride and other “heritage month collections” going forward, said Target Chief Growth Officer Christina Hennington on the call with reporters.
She said the company would have a slightly more focused assortment, adjust its store displays and reconsider the mix of brands it sells.
“You will see us celebrate Pride, you will see us celebrate these heritage moments, but with these modifications,” she said.
So maybe it won’t push chest binders for young girls until a few more years have passed and it thinks society has adjusted its social expectations accordingly downward? Probably. It might at least back away from transgender merchandise aimed at kids.
But this is a win. Conservative boycotts have been toothless for a while. But during an economic downturn, they’ve grown teeth.
This is a window when corporations can be hurt if they go woke. They know it. Now conservatives know it.
Thanks Daniel, excellent coverage.
Chest binders. What a stupid idea. Medieval as was said. I wonder if one gets bedsores from sleeping with a chest binder on.
Maybe they should bring back chastity belts too. They would be better off than chest binders…LOL!
Teeth are not enough. We must grow poisonous fangs.
Our mission is not accomplished. Put the bastards out of business, then dedicate a month to “Pride for Putting Target Out of Business.” After that, move on and finish off another depraved organization.
Target has not learned from the past now their repeating their mistakes
Chief Growth Officer Christina Hennington has learned nothing. I wonder if Targay has recognized the loss of business since encouraging men to use the ladies bathroom.
Cut off the money. That is only thing that will register with these people. For myself – I have no further in anything ever from Target. Even if the company bans transgenders from their stores. They won’t. This transgender delusion runs deep with this crowd of true believer. They ‘know’ they are correct – and that is all there needs to spoke. And that I know too. Today was even display with my resident leftist about this being an core of today’s Democrat Party. You WILL believe or else you are – will in your image of some insane left version of the right.
Well, no I won’t be believe this transgender nonsense. There are only two genders, and we are born that one or the other gender. It’s in the xx or xy.
People are right to not buy from companies that are on board with this. These people are not mentally well. And that I know too – as I live one of them. I see it every day…
I’m surrounded by them. It’s a good test of their sanity, to listen to them talk about politics.
You are indeed. At least, I live in downtown state Illinois – and that is red greater Illinois. This woke crowd are the height of disgust. There is no space for any discussion with them – period. Still – metro St. Louis. They local news I can watch is just about nothing but black seen with the BLM mantra. Tiresome.
You’re married to a leftist? I feel for you, brother.
I think everyone should load up a cart at Tar-Gay, go up to the cash register and let the clerk ring up the sale (so there is a record of the sale), and then decline to pay and walk away, leaving all of the stuff behind in bags, saying, “Oh yeah, I forgot that you guys are trying to harm our children and undermine the authority of parents everywhere”.
Good one. I like your style.
Some customers actually did that to Bed, Bath & Beyond when the store chain canceled Mike Lindell.
You obviously don’t live in a blue city. You fill up a shopping cart, and just WALK out the store with it.
The American people have had enough of this perversion. It was bad enough when it just existed statically, but because decent chose not to do anything about it then, it’s now routinely shoved in our faces and we’re warned to except it or else.
Well, guess what? We DON’T have to accept it. Bud Light, Target and others are learning that now. Target is a little slow on the learning curve. Other businesses have changed their business models for fear of the effect on the bottom line in precarious times.
Case in point: A franchisee of a Cinnabon in Los Angeles told his employees they could no longer wear politically motivated “flair” on their uniforms of any kind. The 14 non-unionized employees immediately went on strike because they couldn’t wear their rainbow buttons…and ONLY in LA were these self-aggrandized slackers not instantaneously fired.
I’m with Greg Gutfeld on this one. “People that go to Cinnabon seek a sugar fix, not a lecture.”
Brian Cornell has dictated that ESG is more important than profits at Target. Customers have made their desires clear, but he doesn’t care. What he cares about is a miniscule portion of Target’s customer base catering to them while ignoring the vast majority of Target’s patrons. This is the meaning of “democracy” in Joe Biden’s America.
Why hasn’t the board fired this loser? Because they don’t care about profits either. They get their bonus’ from ESG NGOs not from Target profits.
Target once financially supported Planned Parenthood. I believe a boycott ended that although I have not checked recently. They have probably found other ways to funnel donations to Planned Parenthood. Target is all for the Democrat agenda from abortion to castration and nothing would surprise me.
Why can’t these idiots just sell stuff and leave the politics out of it? There are a lot of people like myself ready to quit buying their products and shop in their stores if they want to essentially disrespect me by donating to organizations that appear to hate our country and its people. I haven’t been a Target for 10 years or more. I haven’t paid to watch a lot of movies starring actors and directors who hate me.
You and me both, brother. Fuck Target.
‘Applying what they learned’ means doubling down, guaranteed. And don’t worry, 40-year old men will be able to piss alone, alongside your 10-year old daughter.
In the quote the CEO accidentally refers to “diversity, inclusion, and equity”–D.I.E.–maybe that will catch on?
Target is trying to cut the baby in half.
What do we need to celebrate all of this??????? A waste of time and a conflict starter at every celebration. Let’s celebrate One nation under GOD!!!!!
I haven’t shopped at Target in a while now but, in my prior experience, their stores are poorly stocked and staffed. And almost all the large companies I have had to deal with have extremely poor customer support operations with extensive phone waits and assistance outsourced to countries where apparently the English language is unknown. Maybe before worrying about normalizing “alternate lifestyles” and pushing political issues they’d be better served concentrating on their businesses and customers. Just sayin’.
You cannot serve two masters. Target is attempting to have their cake and eat it too. I predict no change in Target’s downward sales spiral.
This continues to be an attack on hard working, moral, God fearing, and sane individuals. Our leadership has gleefully given us up to the dark side. Like many Americans, I see the end-game and it’s not pretty as the politicians and their puppet masters destroy our country for money and “one world order”.
If you don’t believe it then it’s time to pull your head out of the sand. All the Covid lies are being revealed, ie, the FDA has now declared that Ivermectin, a longtime effective and thoroughly tested medication, is okay to be prescribed for the effective treatment of Covid. This after hundreds of thousands continue to die because of the untested, ineffective, and deadly shots. Autopsies are either totally avoided or their results are kept from the public.
This is our new world order and our elected officials, from both parties are responsible!
I fully support boycotts of entities that promote ideology antithetical to one’s values. The problem is that conservative boycotts rarely work due to a number of obstacles not easily overcome. (Hopefully that changes if we, metaphorically speaking, take a few very visible scalps, e.g., AB/Bud Light, Target).
For example:
1) A plurality of voting shares of most publicly traded corporations is controlled by BlackRock or Vanguard and therefore those corporations no longer have the ability to set their own policies or priorities. Any CEO with enough backbone to object would simply be ousted (via BR/V shareholder pressure and the invariably sympathetic board of directors) and replaced with a BR/V surrogate.
2) Related: The finance industry is effectively an oligopoly dominated by BlackRock, Vanguard, & State Street. Shockingly, corporations–at least in the short term (which is all they really care about)–are more dependent on the finance industry than customers. Corporations without access to the finance industry simply cannot operate…period. Corporations with declining customers will still die, but through a more protracted process in which executives bail out with golden parachutes, and therefore no personal harm, before it actually goes belly up.
This is why they are more willing to piss off their customers than their financiers.
3) Major media are subject to the same forces (not to mention intelligence community manipulation, a la Operation Mockingbird–if you don’t know what that is, research and be prepared to be outraged). But since major media are now openly Leftist activist organizations, they need no coercion to do what they do enthusiastically already.
Media, including social media, have ENORMOUS power to amplify what it wants, and suppress what it wants to shape public opinion and manufacture consensus. This is why conservative/non-liberal causes uniformly receive negative coverage or no coverage at all.
This is all funded by those trying to destroy the US. Useful idiots will the tool that takes us down if we lets them. And Darwin doesn’t take them out of the gene pool quickly. China kill hundreds a day with cheap drugs. And we let them. Too many politicians are compromised and or greedy.
Aside from the grooming, Target is fully behind defunding the police and taking down Mt. Rushmore because….”white supremacy” Drink!
Look at Target’s donating to NDN Collective.
Progressives never retreat. The lesson they will learn is how to lie more effectively.
Translation: we learned nothing except if you want to promote anal sex obsession you need to be more subtile.
