“We do not seek another war. We do not seek to escalate. But we will absolutely do what is required to protect ourselves to continue that mission and to respond appropriately to these attacks…We will respond. We’ll do that on our schedule,” White House National Security Spokesman John Kirby stated.
Iran isn’t afraid of escalating. Its leaders and spokesmen don’t constantly express their fear of escalation. Instead, they escalate.
Their Jihadists seize control of shipping in the Red Sea. They invade Israel and kill over a thousand people. They hit a U.S. base inside Jordan.
The obsessions with “escalation” or “proportionate responses” are foolish. A military action is a tool. The question is what is the goal that this tool is accomplishing?
I can’t think of anything proportionate responses by a stronger nation reacting to aggression accomplish. In some conditions, such a response may maintain a balance of terror, but against an enemy who is constantly escalating, they clearly don’t work.
At best (and this is debatable) they may serve as some sort of brake slowing down the level of enemy escalation. But that’s also senseless.
When faced with escalating attacks, you can choose to withdraw from the arena of action (if possible, and this is also debatable) or if you have the capability, you either defeat the enemy or escalate beyond their ability to respond.
The Biden administration is once again choosing to do none of these things. Instead, it’s going to put on a show of responding in what it considers to be a proportionate way that is in theory meant to dissuade Iran from further attacks, but that clearly is not working.
And will never work.
When the enemy is afraid of escalating and you aren’t, the enemy has a problem. When you’re afraid of escalating and the enemy isn’t, you have a problem.
The goal of a balance of terror is to move from the latter to the former. Instead, Biden has moved us from the former to the latter.
While the Biden administration may be afraid of escalating, the American people are not. We’re just exhausted.
The American people have had their fill of war, with nearly 40 years of on again/off again conflict under our collective belts. No country has made larger sacrifices for the cause of freedom than us, but with that sacrifice and time comes the knowledge that we’ve been played more than once. Geopolitical chess games and attempts at nation building by elites and the military industrial complex have left us tired, crippled and broke…and that’s the lucky among us who’ve survived.
These facts became apparent this weekend when the eternal warhawk, Senator Lindsay Graham, tweeted out: “Hit Iran now. Hit them hard.” The replies told of the wisdom gained by the American people after decades of war:
“The war machine votes to leave our troops in the middle east as bait, funds our enemies until they kill Americans, then uses the dead troops as justification for a new war. This scam only benefits Iran and the defense contractors who own too many members of our government.” All too true, but this individual left out the fact that Lindsay had emptied the coffers to Ukraine of dollars, munitions and sense.
All of this is hard for this former service member to admit, but truth is sometimes hard and it’s little wonder that Trump’s nationalism focus is much beloved.
I have the solution to the situation in the middle east.
1) Decapitate the depraved psychopathic murderous Islamic Iranian regime.
2) Decapitate the depraved psychopathic murderous Islamic blackmailing Saudi Royal Family.
3) Decapitate the depraved psychopathic murderous Islamic blackmailing two faced Qatar Royal Family.
4) Decapitate the depraved psychopathic murderous Islamic blackmailing Emirates Royal Family.
5) Etc.Etc,Etc.Etc. …….
6) Anything less is a farce and a losing strategy that will continue to harm America and US citizens.

True but Iran has been waging a self professed war against America for forty five years. All a strong President would have to do to bust its back would be an aerial and naval barrage of all strategic land installations while simultaneously sinking its entire navy, which would probably be like sinking a bunch of rowboats.

Of course, the US should severely damage the interests of the Iranian regime, including their wealth and persons. The preservation of their rule should become the focus of the mullahs. They must be incentivized to accept passivity outside of their borders. Only overwhelming force can do that. That would save lives.
