The “Palestinians,” as the Arabs living in Gaza, and in the West Bank, have carefully renamed themselves — they used to be known simply as “Arabs” and those who had left those areas in 1948 were called “Arab refugees” until the late 1960s, when they suddenly became known as “Palestinians” and “Palestinian refugees,” respectively, cannot bear the tens of thousands of Jewish archeological sites in the Land of Israel that offer conclusive evidence of the Jewish presence in, and close connection to, the land. The “Palestinians,” of course, have no such evidence of their long presence in the land, because there isn’t any. A handful of Muslim Arabs only arrived in the seventh century, more than two thousand years after the Jews had established themselves in the Land of Israel. The “Palestinians” have chosen to destroy, whenever they can, any archeological evidence of the indigenous Jewish presence in the land. More on the latest horror story of their historical vandalism can be found here: “Palestinians rode an excavator over Second Temple-era site, turning it into a car park,” Israel National News, March 20, 2024:
Palestinians rode an excavator over the archaeological site of Umm ar-Rehan, a historical site from the Talmudic and Mishnah periods, located on state lands in Area C, near Harish and Katzir in northern Samaria, flattening the ground of the historic site and built a parking lot on the site.
Area C in the West Bank is supposed to be under the total control of the Israelis. The Palestinians are not allowed to change the character of Area C, whether by building or by destroying existing structures. This rule has not stopped the Palestinians either from building illegal settlements, or from destroying Jewish archeological sites, of which this latest — at Umm ar-Rehan — was one of the oldest and most important.
Umm ar-Rehan is a settlement that has existed from the Mishnaic and Talmudic periods, and the Hellenistic, Byzantine and Roman periods, and was one of the largest in the area.
Buildings made of hewn stones, a watchtower, and a mausoleum – a magnificent burial structure – were found at the site.…
With the entire regular army fighting in Gaza, and joined by 360,000 Reservists, some of whom are in Gaza and others guarding Israel’s borders with Gaza and with Lebanon, the usual contingent of guards who could have prevented this terrible destruction were posted elsewhere. Seizing their chance, the Palestinians took the occasion to engage in this gigantic act of vandalism, designed to efface one more Jewish link to the land that dated back millennia. At Umm ar-Rahanm they have been, literally, paving over history.
This destruction follows the pattern of the Palestinian Authority’s consistent demolition of the Altar of Joshua, the only remnant of the period of the Jewish people’s entry and settlement into the Land of Israel approximately 3,000 years ago, the destruction and theft of antiquities from the ancient Samaria National Park, the sole remnant of the ancient Kingdom of Israel, destruction of the Hasmonean fortress Tel Aroma, and other Jewish heritage sites throughout Judea and Samaria….
While the Jews meticulously preserve any Arab archeological sites they unearth, the Palestinian Authority engages in wholesale destruction of Jewish sites, destruction that has been going on for years. There are tens of thousands of archeological sites in Israel and the West Bank; Israel simply lacks the manpower to guard each site, and this lack has become especially grave since October 7.
Minister Amihai Eliyahu said, “Since the outbreak of the war, we have been experiencing increasing attempts to demolish heritage sites throughout Judea and Samaria, and it is our duty, even while we are fighting for our home, to continue fighting for our history. This is our hope for our land. When learning of the destruction, the Archaeology Officer’s Unit conducted an undercover investigation in order to identify those responsible for the damage, raided the home of the main suspect and arrested him. In the coming days an indictment will be filed against him.”
While punishment of those responsible for the damage should be swift, the penalties for such destruction of Jewish — and Arab — heritage sites should be far greater than they are at present. As of now, Article 37(a) of the 1978 Antiquities Law states that a person who defaces (or destroys) any antiquity or archaeological site will be subject to imprisonment for three years or a fine of IL150,000. Instead of three years, make that prison sentence ten years or even more. That will get the attention of Palestinians who have been destroying Jewish archeological sites whenever they get the chance, and likely bring their vicious little hobby to a halt. Simultaneously, the fine for such destruction could be raised to one million shekels — a sum that will prove ruinous to many Palestinians. And instead of having the punishment consist of either a fine or a prison term, make the punishment instead both a much larger fine of one million shekels and, at the same time, a much longer prison sentence, of at least ten years. Destruction of Jewish heritage sites is not just a crime against the Jews, though it is that, but against all of those, around the globe, who care about history and the truth.
Thank you for making the case for Israel to retake all of this area as their historical land, which it is by evidence.
The other thing that Islam does is to appropriate other people’s work, and claim it for their own We are always told how we owe modern geometry to Islam – we don’t. I came across this note in an old Jewish Quarterly Review:
“Under the heading Mathematics the series of articles in the Bibliotheca Mathematica, 1893 seq., by Steinschneider, Mathematik bet den Juden, might be mentioned. Perhaps the most important fact in this connexion is Curtze’s discovery (Adéhandlungen zur Geschichte der Mathematik, Leipzig, 1902) that the Practica Geometriae of Leonardo Pisano, considered the main source for the introduction of Arabic geometry into Europe, is based entirely on the Latin translation of the Hebrew geometry of Abraham Bar Hiyya. The original of the latter has been published by M. Guttmann (Berlin, 1912-3).” p.533 jewishquarterlyr10drop (if you paste jewishquarterlyr10drop into the archive.org site, you will find the book in question)
Now, that’s really interesting! I never even heard of Hebrew geometry or of Abraham Bar Hiyya, yet if this is correct, it looks as if we, too have made major contributions to the field of mathematics.
This has been an ongoing issue for years and years; long before the war. And unfortunately, Israel has not always done what should have been done. Or – it is “impossible to do anything, because the sites are in area A or B.
Regavim works hard to make public what´s happening.
F.ex: PA destoyed Tel Aroma area B (2020).
A catacomb was plundered, sarcophagi stolen when PA gave working permits for agricultural work resulting in a destroyed burial ground at the Hasmonean Fortress of Jericho area B (2019).
Bulldozing the village Dovrat (Afula, area C) in search for treasure (2018).
John the Babtist´s church in Sebastia (Samaria, area B), is now a ruin decorated with a Hamas flag.
PA roadwork destroyed portions of a 3,200-year-old wall that belonged to the biblical site of Joshua’s altar on Mount Ebal, according to NGO Shomrim al Hanetzach (area B).
PA used stones from an ancient Jewish heritage site to help build a road connecting an Arab village to Nablus (area B).
80% of archaeological sites in the West Bank have been damaged, according to a report by the archaeological group Israel’s Heritage Preservation Center (IHPC), which has surveyed the status of 365 ancient locations (2021). The problem, according to archeologist Shay Bar of Haifa University, exists both in Area C, and in Areas A and B.
Israel must never ever give up Judea and Samaria – not only of security reasons – but because most holy sites are there. Israel should make laws to be able to take control over all archeological sites everywhere in their country.
And Unesco – well, it is totally pro-“palestinian”.
What are those settlers and foreign invaders doing living on and desecrating indigenous Jewish land? They must go back home to Arabia where they belong.
Their nihilistic behavior of destroying history is the same bullshit mentality that the left is exhibiting here.
Trump called it right. The left wouldn’t stop at destroying statues of honorable men like Robert E. Lee & other southern generals.
They would soon go after great white men like Jefferson & Washington.
bravo to the author. the arabs who do this kind of sh*t are clearly barbarians, disgusting creatures full of hate and lies. the Bible speaks of the evil amalekites who must be fought and eliminated. well, here they are, the Hamas Nazis, in full bloom. we need Joshua’s swift sword to cut them down forever!
You called it right. I pray every day for peace — peace with honor, peace with victory, and peace with the total destruction of Amalek. May this generation of young lions accomplish what our ancestors failed at: May they fulfill the commandment to destroy Amalek. Forever, and in whatever guise it assumes.
Destruction, whether it is of archeological sites, modernity, humanity, or goodness, is all they know to do, or ever will.
Just wait for them to call to have the Pyramids and Spinx to be blown up
Israel and the IDF should destroy every mosque in country, including the abomination that sits on top of the Second Temple, the Al Aqsa Mosque
If this vandalism were accidental, it would at least be understandable, and there would be a solution in sight via education. However, this behaviour is consistent with what Islam does in any land over which it gains control – every artefact that testifies to a pre-Islamic history is destroyed or repurposed. In the UK, we now have a hiking route with signs pointing to Mecca, so that the Muslim Hikers can pray at strategic points. I am sure that there are plans filed away somewhere for building a mosque on the Stonehenge site and desecrating St Paul’s Cathedral.
On a lighter note, I came across a Middle English Dictionary in which the word for an idol was a “Maumet”. I think we can guess where they got that word….
