[Order David Horowitz’s new book, America Betrayed, HERE.]
Does anybody remember the gentle days of political humor when Johnny Carson was the King of Late Night? Today’s late-night environment is largely a nasty gang of hardened leftists (with Jimmy Fallon being the closest to the Carson model).
A new Media Research Center study by Alex Christy found the political tilt of guests (with a political opinion) over a nine-month period was 137 to 8, or 94% liberal. That would also suggest the tone of the hosts when they have politics on the brain.
In the fervid public dispute over whether President Joe Biden’s disastrous debate performance should cause him to quit the campaign, the comedians are not-so-subtly suggesting they are on Team Quit. “It’s not for me to say,” but get out.
Let’s start with Jon Stewart, king of the new snarky late-night landscape. Biden told ABC’s George Stephanopoulos that if he lost, he’ll know he did his “goodest” to beat Donald Trump. Stewart shot back: “That is not what this is about! There are no participation trophies in ‘endgame democracy.’ Yes, I remember FDR saying, ‘Well, if the Nazis take over Europe, at least both teams had fun.”
The Trump-equals-Hitler bit is a constant. Trump’s daughter converted to Judaism, and his policies were very pro-Israel. It’s pretty wild stuff from Jon Leibowitz “Stewart,” the guy who once hosted what he called a “Rally to Restore Sanity.” He failed.
NBC’s Seth Meyers also offered a wild-eyed lecture on how Biden isn’t good enough. “A wildly dangerous criminal and pathological liar is leading a radical movement to dismantle American democracy and he’s within striking distance,” he said. So “it would be nice to have a Democratic candidate who could competently articulate those stakes, instead of whatever the hell this was.”
Meyers couldn’t handle Biden’s promise to do fewer events after dark and get more rest: “If you truly believe American democracy is at stake, and it is, then you have to act like it. You can’t claim to be the last bulwark against fascism and also have a ‘more sleep’ plan.”
On CBS, Stephen Colbert complained, “Biden’s shakiness allowed Trump to get away with 90 minutes of lies, racism and weird golf brags, which is why a lot of people are saying this was the worst debate performance of all time.”
In an interview with CNN host Abby Phillip, Colbert asked why there should be any debates. Naturally, the journalist thought there should be debates. Colbert shot back: “Why? You know he’s going to lie and the other guy is the president of the United States, who should not be dignifying this criminal who tried to overthrow democracy and does not believe in the process.”
This is today’s anti-Trump fervor. Democracy is best served when debates aren’t held.
Colbert later concluded Biden is displaying a battle of two virtues, perseverance and self-sacrifice. “And self-sacrifice takes a particular kind of courage, and that is a courage I believe Joe Biden is capable of.” Keep hope alive, Steve.
Since Jimmy Kimmel took the summer off at ABC, this week’s fill-in host Kathryn Hahn proclaimed: “I would vote for a skeleton over Donald Trump. In fact, I may literally be voting for a skeleton over Donald Trump.”
Behind all this nastiness is sincerity. The “comedians” aren’t striking a pose to play the rebel. These people really believe their own spiels about democracy ending if they lose. But just because they’re sincere doesn’t mean they don’t sound like they need medication. They don’t get to lecture the rest of us about having a calm grip on reality and a reasonable view on what happens next in America.
For the life of me, I will never understand why anyone would take actors, TV entertainers seriously. They’re the least serious people who contribute nothing of any tangible worth to society. Moreover, the vast majority of them are functionally illiterate and demonstrably ignorant and stupid.
You’d have to be a very shallow person with a pretty low IQ to listen to anything they have to say and take them seriously. At best, that crowd are useful idiots to the politicians and party apparatchiks. Well paid but never the less, useful idiots.
Stewart came out on top of a 2009 TIME online poll asking who was the most trusted newscaster in America after the death of Walter Cronkite,
I think that still rings true, although Seth Meyer may beat him now that Jon is only once/week. I used to revere Rachel Maddow until she became a part of MSNBC’s 100% Dem campaign ad format.
Someone like Stephen Colbert provides laughs — at least for a certain segment of the population. That’s why he’s taken seriously. Nielsen ratings drive our economy and culture. People like to be entertained. Unfortunately, entertainment is not wisdom.
Biden has become the Mokey on the back of the Democrat Party and he is using up his uselessness to them and the Soros/Globalists
I’m reminded of a Chinese proverb, “He who rides a tiger is afraid to dismount.” It’s easy for show-biz libs to give Dems advice. They don’t have political careers hanging in the balance. On the other hand, the Dems are so deeply invested in their candidate, that they have no choice other than to cover up his infirmities. And it’s all the more pathetic when you consider that their tiger is lame, addled, and toothless.
And while I’m waxing proverbial, I’ll offer one to their donors who are caught up in a conundrum of their own: “In for a penny, in for a pound.” In either case, I figure they all may be thinking, “may as well die with our boots on.”
I like that proverb. It explains why politicians and their fixers behave as they do.
If you’ve ever seen the movie “Cabaret” with Joel Grey, you might recall a scene in which Grey (as the cabaret owner) romantically courts somebody dressed a female gorilla. As he complains about how their friends misunderstand the couple, Grey ends the scene by whispering, “She doesn’t look Jewish at all.”
The character knew on what side his bread was buttered. At the end of the movie, you saw Nazi stormtroopers crowd the place, ready to be entertained.
These comics are no different. They’re nothing but mouthpieces for a tyrannical regime, Whether they’re “true believers” or opportunists makes no difference.
Keep that in mind when you hear a celebrity threaten to leave the United States should Trump be re-elected (or should some other political happenstance they’ don’t like occur). They’re not playing to a wider audience. They’re playing to their friends in the industry, perhaps to save their careers.
im hoping beyond all reason that all those who said they would leave america if trump was elected in 2016 will follow through this time around . but considering the left have no morals and no integrity it would be asking too much . perhaps george looney will lead the charge seeing as hes the oracle for the hollywood elite . i think its called leading by example .
I cant understand why these ”liberal” morons hate Trump so much when in fact Trump is very Liberal in most of his politics and he never locked anybody up for speaking against him, he was the first President to recognize Gay Marriage and then Obummer and Hitlery followed suit later on as they were both against it, and Trump made America safer for Gay and women folks walking around at night as the penalties for attacking such people were severe.
Look at today where rape and murder are all over America, anybody and everybody walks across the Border and nobody knows who these people are and nasty drugs follow like the Rio Grande.
So tell me what did Trump do during his four years that was so awful.
I have asked Biden people this question and they always reply.. ”Are you a Trump supporter” so I ask them if they always answer a question with a question… Like I just did…
They can never explain their point of view but just scream Orange Man Bad while denigrating those who scream against about skin tones… Go figure…
