Going to the supermarket yesterday was an ordinary enough affair in year four of the pandemic where the two major chains Albertsons and Kroger that squat atop the retail food pyramid like gorgons feature constant shortages, limited selection (you can have the store brand or the Unilever/Nestle/Bimbo IP brand), and random price hikes.
Running the products through the self-checkout was an ordinary enough process until I scanned the eggs. A dozen eggs clocked in at… $9.99. At first, I thought it was a mistake, but nope. A dozen eggs were now $9.99 and the price of 18 eggs had gone up to $11.99. In the interests of research,h I checked other markets and overnight this had become the new normal.
I didn’t take a picture of the eggs in the supermarket, but here’s a comparable price in the app.
Was Los Angeles crazier than usual?
Gov. Newsom declared a bird flu emergency. Not because anything has happened per se, but to “ensure government agencies have the resources and flexibility they need to respond quickly to this outbreak”.
People across California are now having trouble getting eggs, but I’m guessing that the French Laundry is fully stocked.
It will take a lot to fix California.
So are those annoying little twats from PETA going to urge us to All Go Vegan? Tell PETA to Go Pound Sand
I saw a carton of 18 eggs in Safeway for THIRTY DOLLARS! Eggs! Just ordinary eggs. They weren’t even “organic” as if something that comes out of a hen’s ass can be inorganic.
Life is crazy, man.
That is the beauty of federalism. The rest of the states don’t have to sink down with the Californias and New Yorks of this country.
Things like welfare and other forms of public assistance shouldn’t be funded by the federal government. The feds should stop funding all that and return the funds in tax cuts. Then each state can tax and spend on handouts as they see fit. Saving taxpayers of all sane states a lot of money.
So when states like California are more generous to freeloaders, the rest of us don’t have to pay the price. Federalism means that drugs and other crimes should be left to the states with no federal involvement. (though many of my fellow conservatives will unwisely want the feds to keep drugs prohibited.)
We need to be consistent in respecting federalism and not picking and choosing. That way quacky states like California can’t bring the rest of us down.
I live in California and our Governor is a Dunderhead who thinks he is a Savior the same kind or person who is always trying to fit the Round Peg in the Square Hole
