These days I see far more people wearing masks in Los Angeles than I have since the waning days of the pandemic edicts when Irish democracy was steadily prevailing against the politicians and public health experts seeking a permanent masking regime.
Some of this is due to the winter and the resurgence of flu season, most of it though is due to the fires.
While there was a strong burning smell in the air during the early days of the fires, that has mostly faded away and I’m skeptical that the black revamp of the old blue surgical masks would do much against whatever is in the air. I don’t want to take the subject lightly. I suffered some ill effects over what was in the air after 9/11, but much of the masking appears to be cultural and social rather than serious self-protection efforts.
I’ve tried to avoid being judgemental about what people did and do during the pandemic as long as it doesn’t affect others but it does seem like it takes a fairly low bar to bring back masking in 15% of the population.
Now in L.A. their faced to mask up over a Fire which some are trying to claim was caused by Global Warming/Climate Change instead of the blundering of Governor Nuisance and his fellow Dem0-Rats
President Trump forced LA Mayor Ass and the rest of CA to turn the water back on. He’s also forcing those scumbags to provide Central CA farms with the water they’ve been illegally denied for decades.
Ironic.
Masks can protect one from airborne particulates when properly used. Hence their use during certain phases of construction, painting, and … firefighting among others. etc.
Sadly most of the population has no idea that masks cannot stop respiratory viruses and many chemical pollutants. That is, the ordinary variety sold at the hardware store or any of the variations.
It’s like comfort food. Put on a mask to make yourself feel like you’ve done something to protect yourself from the chemical products of a fire.
And I won’t start on malodorous compounds.
Malodorous compounds? Such as Nancy Pelosi?
I still see the occasional masked moron here in Santa Clara valley.
Firestorms smell good like campfires, which makes them even worse, in my opinion.
