California’s high-speed rail had a $9.95 billion bond measure back in 2008 that was supposed to link up LA, San Francisco and the Central Coast by 2020.
It’s 2025 and the budget has shot up to $128 billion.
Nothing has been built (except mansions for the well-connected) and there’s no sign that’s about to change.
California’s multibillion-dollar high-speed rail project is behind schedule on obtaining the land it needs to complete its construction plans, according to a state inspector general report published Friday.
Friday’s report comes on the heels of another one earlier this month that found construction on the initial 171-mile Central Valley line is unlikely to be completed by the High-Speed Rail Authority’s 2033 timeline.
2020, 2033, 3033, who’s counting anyway?
The Trump administration wants to get the federal government out of the business of funding this boondoggle, but protesters showed up at a Republican press conference against the move.
There were awkward hipsters probably employed by nonprofit groups, a guy in a COVID mask and a guy dressed like a dinosaur.
And someone who threw a tomato at a legislator. But most relevantly, the best the protest could do was about a dozen leftists.
For a $128 billion project. Clearly a project with broad appeal in California.
A handful of protesters tried to drown out our announcement of the High-Speed Rail investigation. One was dressed as a dinosaur and another threw a tomato at Assemblywoman Alexandra Macedo.

Throughout my life I was taught to be tough & handle every curve ball thrown at me. A tomato is new 🍅
If you are going to throw produce, make
sure is it #CaliforniaGrown 🌾 This was my effort to have an open & honest conversation with people who disagree #tomatotantrum pic.twitter.com/0SFLsROIGI— Alexandra Macedo (@Macedo4Assembly) February 21, 2025
Every time I see an article about the high speed rail to nowhere, i can’t help but remember the Monorail episode of the Simpsons (Season 4 Episode 12). A fast talking salesman talks the town into building a monorail with the salesman planning on skipping town with the bulk of the money.
This episode came out about 15 years before California’s initial authorization. Was it what gave California legislators the idea?
There’s a monorail in Seattle It runs a whopping 1.2 miles between the Space Needle and a nice shopping center and cement park called Westlake center. It was built for the 1962 World’s Fair. So was the Space Needle, I think. It’s pretty neat but why they didn’t extend it all the way to the south edge of downtown, I don’t know. It’s only a few miles. The Space Needle has a revolving restaurant and observation deck on top. It’s nice although the food isn’t anything special.
I see some needle dicked D-Bag troll resents the size of the Space Needle.
Yeah, my parents took me to the Space Needle in 1962. I still remember that.
About the protestors, have to assume they are paid protesters. Any time there is leftist demonstration, have to assume it is fake, Populated by paid protesters.
These dozen are simply union thugs. The union’s love the massive waste of money for the choo choo to nowhere. Dump it.
Yes, they’re obviously paid protesters. Did you notice how many of them are wearing work shirts and baseball caps as “regular Joe working man” costumes? Two of them even have matching tan caps, doubtlessly from the same store. (Was it a union store?) Most of the females don’t need disguises because they’re the usual dykes and already dress like men. And then there’s the orange haired weirdo in a cartoon costume and a dinosaur.
Just the usual tiny mob of freaks who show up at paid protests against government accountability and other forms of sanity. I wonder if they get benefits along with paychecks?
I remember thinking it was a mistake even when the project was first proposed.
One of the main factors is insiders selling property along the proposed routes.
Hey, what’s $128 billion, 17 years wasted and a projected eight years more? All the California government needs to do is spend another $128 billion on “studies” and more time for the moneyed interests who collude with Plastic Face Pelosi and Grease head Newscum and the other D-Bags to buy property along the “proposed” (permanently postponed) magical train routes so they can be fleeced too when the choo choos never get purchased and the infrastructure is never built?
Why be like “Third World” Indonesia and purchase the world’s fastest bullet trains, build all the infrastructure and have the system up and running in only three years? Fuck that shit. Let’s put or trust in the California D-Bags. After all, they do such a wonderful job here that the state has the highest rate and volume of residents fleeing to other states in the entire country. And so what if crime, homelessness, illegal immigration and taxes dwarf those of other states and are at an all time high here?
If there’s one thing we can trust in, it’s that the D-Bags will continue to fuck ordinary citizens up our asses and increase their levels of corruption and incompetence exponentially. “Golden State” my ass.
If there ever was a better metaphor for Democrat run states than this folly, it would have to be the protests supporting it. There is an online video of a drone following the route of this run away bane on taxpayers. It has to be seen to be believed.
A handful of Useful Idiots wants Bullet Train to Stupidland make them all walk all the way home
Native Californian here, third generation. My wife is sixth generation. We are trying to figure out how to flee this state. I suspect these protestors are astroturfed or have a vested interest in the project, as even the most Demi-rats don’t care about this high speed boondoggle.
I suspect they’re paid protesters. In other words, whores for the D-Bags.
My mother was 5th generation (1823), I fled in 2018 for Kentucky. I now make far more money and pay far less taxes. We have freedom where nobody in California does.
If people with sense keep leaving the state, how will things ever be turned around? The Lefties’ nonsense isn’t intended to make the lives of Californians better, it’s designed to drive people from the state. They want to drive down the population of California so they can “return” it to some supposed “natural perfection.” And then, they want to run it. It’s what the left wants for the entire country, and the world.
Everybody with good sense who runs away is only giving the global Left what it wants.
It’s time for Californians to stand and fight this crap, not leave. There’s GOT to be a way.
choo choo trains.
Someone needs to stop the Demokkkrats
and end all dreams of choo choo trains for people
we need people trains like we need stagecoaches and ocean liners.
A dozen bussed in dime-store shills for Newsom. What did they
get for lunch? Tofu marinated in Sacramento Delta bog water?
Hopefully some Delta smelt sushi and roasted spotted owl.
now now, you’ve gone to far!
I wonder how much those protesters were paid. I cannot see anybody really having a reason to protest.
Here’s another unasked question: What will the fares be if this unneeded boondoggle is ever finished and starts service–which of course it will never be–??
Will they cover the cost of its construction and operating costs, or will they be “subsidized,” too? Take a guess.
I took a Train from Dunsmuir to Oakland some fifty years ago had Breakfast in the Dining Car we had the Car at the end of the Train you could see the Locomotive far ahead and its Headlight seem to be revolving
Yeah, we had an excellent train system in California in the 1950s.
Dianne Feinstein and her husband managed to steal over $1 billion taxpayers’ money for this hoax. It has always been about stealing money
Exactly. Thanks Chief !!! They had property along the proposed route.
The Fiendstains’ prophetic property plans remind me of the Pelousy crime family’s insider trading and Grease head Newscum’s Getty grift. I seem to remember a lot of incest between the Brown, Pelosi and Newsom families too. Turds of a brand pile in a stand.
Her internet has been scrubbed clean of Mafia references. Each time I look it up it is worse.
Resist we much! Resist we much!
Thank You federal taxpayers.
You funded a street car in Kenosha, WI that runs in a circle. No one rides it except third graders on a field trip.
This is your federal mass transit dollars at work.
