The Israeli Left has been shrinking for some time.
The Israeli Labor Party, which used to run the country, has 4 Knesset members. This is not a new situation. This hilarious Latma video mocking the Labor Party for having so few parliamentarians that they can all fit in a taxi dates back to 2011.
I’ve written a good deal about the collapse of the Israeli Left which is attributable to a number of factors including
- The disastrous “peace process” with Islamic terrorists resulting in a ‘Palestinian’ terror entity
- The success of the Israeli economy under privatization
- Immigration. Unlike immigration in the U.S., immigration from the Middle East and Russia to Israel has led to a more conservative electorate.
So these numbers reported by the Free Beacon are not wholly out there. But they do show a post-Oct 7 shift.
The survey found that the rightward ratchet of Israeli politics across decades of Palestinian terrorism and rejectionism has lurched ahead since Oct. 7. Based on political self-identification, the right has grown by 5 percentage points to include 36 percent of Jewish Israelis, or 60 percent when the poll factors in the moderate and hard right. The left has shrunk by 3 percentage points to just 8 percent of the public, or 13 percent factoring in the moderate and hard left. And the center has held steady at about a quarter of the political spectrum.
How did that play out in some of the more liberal communities near Gaza targeted on Oct 7?
Debbie Sharon, 60, a criminal defense attorney from Yated, a town in southern Israel, counts herself among the newly minted right-wingers. She recalled that prior to Oct. 7, she subscribed to the then-prevailing conception that Israel’s withdrawal from Gaza in 2005 and subsequent economic support for the strip encouraged quiet and might one day lead to peace between Israel and the Palestinians.
“People on the right warned us that the Palestinians don’t think the way we think: They don’t care about peace for their children. They only care about eliminating us,” Sharon said. “But we didn’t believe them. We said, ‘They’re all mad. They’re all right-wing extremists.'”
Earlier this year, Sharon volunteered for Tzav 9, a grassroots movement that sprang up to protest Israel’s provision of humanitarian aid to Gaza during the war. She eventually left the group—which has recently been linked to violence and sanctioned by the Biden administration—saying it had become too divisive. But she stood by her opposition to the aid.
“They can have aid in Gaza when they give us back our hostages. That’s how I feel,” she said. “I guess that makes me a right-wing extremist.”
All in all this sounds like it should be great news, but Israel’s parliamentary system which lacks regional representation ensures that there are a whole range of political parties, many representing narrow and very corruptible interests, which can be used to form coalitions.
The public Left isn’t much of an electoral force, but in the past 15-20 years it mainly operates through fake ‘centrist’ and ‘apolitical’ parties like Yesh Atid or various others fronted by the latest retired general. When these parties get enough votes, they can form a leftist coalition government that pretends it’s centrist.
Additionally, there are a variety of narrow-identity politics parties that are simply for sale. These are particularly useful for breaking off voters who might otherwise vote for conservative parties.
And then there are the Arab Islamic parties.
Finally, the Supreme Court maintains total unilateral absolute power, and efforts to reduce its power fell apart due to massive national protests and then the attacks of Oct 7. The Supreme Court’s calculated decision on a draft for Orthodox students is meant to make the Netanyahu coalition fall apart and be replaced by the Left.
So what should be good news on paper is unfortunately a long way from offering that much in reality.
The Israeli Jewish public is generally conservative, but the system still belongs to the Left.
Good political analysis.
Israel’s Socialist experiment proved once and for all. Political left can never sell its utopia via the ballot box. The only way the left can gain or remain in power is through brutal force.
Or brutal farce, as here in America.Control education, entertainment and the various bureaucracies and you can impose your will on the stronger majority without violence. DEI, black skin privilege, intersectionality, tranny tyranny, child grooming, et cetera. The overwhelming majority of the public opposes those things, especially child grooming, which is opposed by at least 99%.
just like the pharisees and saducees of new testament times , colluding with the enemy [ namely the romans ] wont guarantee your survival as the diaspora showed . you make a deal with the devil at your peril . jews are their own worst enemy borne out by the left being entrenched in all facets of israeli culture . america is infested with the same sewer rats as israel . jews vote for the left and have found out that anti semites run the show , surprise ! surprise . ! once israelis get sick of the war they will revert back to their old ways and once again believe in the fiction of a 2 state solution . this will continue until the tribulation of 7 years where once again they will be betrayed and another holocaust will ensue because they trust the antichrist . time to buckle up slow learners .
I don’t know a lot about Israeli politics, so this is fascinating
The influence of the American left on the Israeli left within and without Israel is profound.
‘Extreme‘ in my mind is caring about ideology and not people; the American left calls the Israeli right ‘extreme’, when actually the opposite is true. The American left is extreme.
The PEOPLE who define the Israeli ‘right‘ believe in and live by the truth and sanctity of the Torah. That belief and way of life is not extreme. Protecting our people in our land is not extreme. It’s required.
Judaism is intense, but not extreme. The ideals are universal.
Leftism, on the other hand, is a mash up of IDEAS, not ideals. In Israel, these ideas challenge, deny and refute the Torah (and reality).
In America, they challenge, deny and refute the Declaration of Independence (and reality).
So the left calls the right extreme while calling itself liberal, which is beyond ironic. Liberalism suggests an expansive generosity, an endless free flowing stream of benevolence and consideration. How is the left liberal when its ideas are so exclusive, controlling, restrictive and destructive for people?
People get in the way of leftist ideas.
Thanks for this explanation. To people in US it’s confusing)
But Oy Oy Oy! .
“Oy oy oy!” I think that’s Australian. 🙂 They yell it at rugby games.
Debbie Sharon, thought support for the strip encouraged quiet and might one day lead to peace between Israel and the Palestinians? (sic) Did she miss the constant rocket barrages?
Yeah, good example of delusional thinking.
It’s frightening how little Israelis know about islam and what motivates terrorists. It seems very few have bothered to educate themselves and read about the Koran, hadiths and suras. Or even just the history of Islamic conquest! You’d think they would want to know, after each murderous suicide bombing or stabbing.
in a way Israelis are more sheltered from it because there are fewer mixed areas
I pray for Israel and her renewed strength. Mighty power will come from the Lord to those who are faithful.
Doctrines that pervert the truth about God’s nature, character, and intentions never exist in a vacuum….they naturally give birth to false worship. If we. want to understand how God views those who practice demonic doctrines, we should look to the Old Testament. Perhaps one of the most famous recorded events of God dealing with false prophets who worshipped pagan gods transpired between the Prophet of God, Elijah, and 450 prophets of Baal atop Mount Carmel in Israel. There, the prophet of God stood alone, seemingly defenseless against the massive gathering of false prophets. Elijah laid down the ultimate challenge: “You call on the name of your gods, and I will call on the name of the Lord; and the god who answers by fire, He is God”. 1 Kings 18:24.
God judged harshly those who promoted demonic doctrines. Tragically all humans are on a battlefield where a tremendous war is being played out. The war entails the hatred of Satan against all humanity versus the love of God for them. Satan’s purpose for spreading falsehoods is not just for the sake of being evil. Satan’s eye is on the bigger trophy…..the souls of the unsaved.
Jews lost their identity because of the diaspora resulting in way too many Hebrew DNA people voting for the wrong people – even after the demonic nazzi holocaust genocide and fleeing to Israel, so many have forgotten the lessons of the past and vote for the wrong people in Israel and USA.
Jews in Germany voted for hitler – Jews in USA voted for Obama and Biden – and other self loathing Jews like Chucky Shoomer and get sent to the death camps every single time! These are the Charlie Brown’s trusting this time Lucy won’t yank to football Charlie’s about to punt!
The problem with America is and has been not enough good Kosher delis! Why, with Kosher delis there would have been no genocide against the indigenous American Indians let alone slavery and racism. Who could hate over a lean brisket with sauerkraut sandwiched in rye or pumpernickel?
Next election cycle I’m going to form the Pumpernickel Party to push more Kosher Deli’s in USA.
Can’t we just SUBSTITUTE “EVIL” for “left”?? Has ANY leftwing organization ever built ANYTHING that is GOOD and DECENT??
MUGGED BY REALITY
