California has plenty of democracy… as long as the Democrats approve of it. The state’s famous ballot propositions are very open, unless they propose the wrong thing, like opposition to gay marriage or banning the state government from raising taxes, in which case, out they go. Kamala became infamous for tampering with the wording of propositions leading to the public unknowingly voting to let criminals steal everything.
What I’m getting at here is that at this point in time, the Secretary of State giving a secession proposition a pass is not a neutral act, but an act of solidarity. The proposition may be mostly virtue signaling, but a lot of Southerners probably thought the same thing about events before the Civil War. Treason is still treason.
Secretary of State Shirley Weber announced Thursday that a measure introduced by Marcus Evans of Fresno must receive more than 500,000 signatures by late July.
According to the text of the measure, the state would be required to create a 20-member state commission to study California’s viability as an independent country in 2027 and to publish a report the following year.
The measure would also place the following question on the November 2028 ballot: “Should California leave the United States and become a free and independent country?”
If the ballot question is approved, the proposal would declare a “vote of no confidence in the United States of America”, but would not change the state’s government or its relationship with the U.S. The measure would also call for the removal of the U.S. flag from all state buildings.

Considering its governors sign treaties with China and ignore American laws, I’d say they already have. The closer they come to making it official, the sooner the invasion and the reconstruction can begin.

So, what is your share of the National Debt that you will have to take with you when you leave? Do you think you will get out of paying that? Do you think you are going to leave with all the federal land that is owned by the whole country? Fat chance!

A little research is in order. Secession was a response to the attempted tyranny of the same holier than thou crowd we have today. The leaders used a moral issue to disguise their attempts to rule and undermine the country. Slavery! Global Warming!, No Hate! By making agreements and increasing the cost of production to meet climate targets, these officials affct consumers in the other 49 states. They are interfering with commerce. The commerce clause should squash this trickery.

It doesn’t look like this is going anywhere, and there is no actual ordinance of secession being proposed in the State Legislature, as far as I know. Should CA Democrats get serious about secession (it’s more probable that they will continue scheming to rig elections and seize Federal power rather than seceding from the Union), then we can enter into a serious discussion of the issue.
Should that be necessary, I think the correct view is that a state can secede, but only if the Federal Government is failing in its obligations and/or violating the rights of the people. With Democrats in charge, it will in fact do both. A state cannot secede because the Federal Government isn’t tyrannical enough to suit the ruling Democrats’ taste for power.
To make the point clearer, suppose Democrats had “won” the 2024 election (i.e. cheated their way to power) and began further imposition of censorship, gun confiscation, reparations, and open borders. The free states would have had every right to secede and form their own union (with the idea of eventually squashing the Left and re-unifying a now-free country). But Democrats have no right to secede from the Trump Government, which is slowly beginning to return a measure of freedom to the people.

California is so far to the left that I wouldn’t miss them. They need us more than we need them. Without the light of non-leftists anymore, they’d degenerate into a total failure. Trump can put tariffs on them and they’ll be nothing. Let them fail and then we can easily get them back on our terms.
Most of us Californians are anything but leftists but we’re ruled by left-wing scum who’ve made vote cheating unbeatable. Pretty much all the inland counties are Republican and so are the far north coastal ones.
The irony is that in California illegal aliens can easily vote – they just need to show their drivers licence, which have been been issued to illegal aliens for many years. So all the America-hating communists/socialists and agents of enemy countries can easily partake in the so-called “voting,” where the illegal voting block (which is Democrat and comprised of a huge percentage of the population) compromises the integrity of the results so bad, it cannot even be called anything close to a fair election.
Californians dont need fires or earthquakes to destroy themselves. They do just fine by themselves.
They don’t even have to show their driver’s licenses, they just have to show up. CA doesn’t require IDs to vote because the State Legislature wants as much Dirtbagocrat vote fraud as possible. The state does automatically register all wet backs to vote when they get their illegal driver’s licenses and IDs.
It’s all fun and games till the money stops. Not to mention passports & boarders and federal welfare supports, foodstamps. Would California become the state equivalent of a sovereign citizen?
Just another CA grift. In addition to agreeing with a petition, they created a commission to study the impact and are funding it with $10M up front and $2M a year. In short, it’s just another crony program for friends and family of connected politicians to suckle at the teat of government.
Not so fast Daniel. Don’t paint with such a wide brush. There has been an ongoing movement here in California for 20+ years to split the state into two states; Coastal California and the lake Tahoe area (wealthy liberals) is the blue (democrat) part of the state. The rest of the state is red (republican). Looking at an election map of the recent presidential election will testify to that fact.
Unfortunately, people who don’t live here don’t know that and assume that all of California is a democrat state. That’s just not true and it’s unfair to Californians who detest and vote against democrats and their far left party.
I’m in favor of the faction that wants to split the state in two. Let Coastal California secede and go it alone. Those of us in favor of splitting into two state don’t care and moreover, it’s an idea who’s time has come.

Most northern Californians DO want to form a separate state but they won’t get it. There still some signs on highways which say “Welcome to Jefferson State” or a variation of that. WWII ended the first attempt but the corrupt State Legislature will prevent another attempt any time soon.
We’re forgetting that CA is the gateway of trade to and from Asia. If they secede, they can tax the crap out of lower the 47 for everything entering their ports and crossing their border,.
