Who needs the death penalty anyway? Certainly not California. Just lock the murderers up at a modest cost of buying a nice house a year and everything is fine. Of course, you can’t keep them in solitary or deny them visitations because that would be inhumane.
So let’s take a look at how that’s working out.
The family of a woman who died of strangulation during an overnight visit with her husband at a California prison is questioning why a man convicted of murdering four people was allowed to have family visits.
Stephanie Diane Dowells, 62, who also went by the name Stephanie Brinson, was killed in November, making her the second person in a year to die at Mule Creek State Prison in Ione during a family visit, according to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.
The other victim, Tania Thomas, 47, was also strangled during a family visit, Amador County District Attorney Todd Riebe said in an interview Monday. The man she was visiting has been charged with murder in connection with her killing, Riebe said.
Good thing, California doesn’t have the death penalty. Now two murderers managed to kill two more people in a year. And a man who already murdered four people managed to add another to his total. And what’s the state going to do? Lock him up longer for life? Send him to bed without his supper?
At least a jury of moral morons and a prosecutor trying ‘to save money’ in 1994 gave us this latest murder.
A 23-year-old man was sentenced Monday to four consecutive life terms without the possibility of parole for the execution-style murders of four men during a robbery in which he netted virtually nothing.
David Brinson was convicted in October of shooting Robert Marks, a 59-year-old retired tavern owner, and three other men on June 12, 1990, in Marks’ garage apartment on South Burnside Avenue in the Mid-Wilshire district.
Brinson faced the death penalty, but the jury could not agree on the sentence.
The prosecution agreed not to retry the penalty phase in exchange for Brinson’s promise not to appeal his case. Superior Court Judge George Trammell sentenced Brinson on Monday.
“That will save the taxpayers a lot of money” that otherwise would have to be spent on impaneling a new jury, Deputy Dist. Atty. Teri Schwartz said.
There was a simple solution to this problem. The failure to apply it, compassion to the cruel, did not lead to anything except more horror and death.
Whether it’s terrorists or killers, either you kill them or they go on killing.
The Democrat government is dysfunctional and insane.
Its much worse than just that. DIE
The death penalty would certainly solve a lot of society’s ills. That is its purpose. Of course, then, one would have to admit to the reality of sin in humanity.
“Whoever sheds the blood of man, by man shall his blood be shed, for God made man in his own image” (Genesis 9;6).
The argument that the death penalty is not a deterrent is a delusional lie.
It sure as hell deters recidivism
It may not be a deterrent….but it sure prevents recidivism.
Back when they executed Robert A. Harris for the Murder of these two Youth his victims were totally forgotten as the Liberal Bleedinghearts were all about Harris. Its time to think of t he Victims and put this murderer in the Gas Chamber without all t the stupid delays and appeals
The thing is, from my tangent, whatever is in his brain that caused the first incident is likely hardwired in there. Maybe dosing with enough psychedelics can rewire his brain but even that is dangerous. Or turn his brain into mush with who knows what consequences.
Anyway hardwiring is the default, have to assume there is a significant probability that he will do it again if the right circumstances arise. Who knows what will trigger it and set him off?
I would favor a comfortable cell in solitary confinement for life, except the Democrats would probably find an excuse to let him out.
lol, that reminded me, my Mom was a big opponent of Capital Punishment in the 1950s, when Caryl Chessman was in the newspapers (SF Chron) every day. So I have been reading and thinking about that issue ever since, many years now 🙂
San Quentin where Caryl was locked up was visible from our house. Strangely enough, in the mornings, when the whole SF Bay was fogged in, San Quentin was the only sunny place on the whole bay.
Against my better judgement I looked up photos of Stephanie Diane Dowells. She was pretty and a real human being.
And that murderer has dog eyes. Bad dog eyes.
Scary eyes, scary face. Gives me the creeps when I look at it.
No person executed for a crime has ever committed a subsequent offense.
Life sentences – not only allow murderers to murder during ‘family’ visits
the criminal can terrorize fellow inmates, staff, and other visitors,
they can become ‘heroes’ for fools and idiots to rally around,
they can receive pardons,
and become Left-wing activists.
THE DEATH PENALTY ALONE for all capital criminals is not enough. In fact, under the Constitutional Republic’s CRIMINAL Justice System (including its unbiblical prison system*), it could very well lead to even more crime:
“…Except on behalf of his past and possible future victims, I found it difficult to rejoice when Ted Bundy [one of America’s most notorious serial murderers] was finally executed. The antagonists to the death penalty are at times correct; capital punishment sometimes is not a deterrent to future criminals. In fact, according to King Solomon, sometimes capital punishment is a catalyst for more crime:
‘Because the sentence against an evil deed is not executed quickly, therefore the hearts of the sons of men among them are given fully to do evil.’ (Ecclesiastes 8:11 NASB)
When felons, such as Ted Bundy, can postpone their execution for prolonged periods of time by means of America’s appellate system, criminals are encouraged in their unlawful behavior rather than deterred. You can almost hear the reasoning of a would-be criminal as he contemplates a life of crime:
‘First, they have to catch me, and if they do, I might escape! If I don’t escape, the prison system isn’t so bad. Heck, it’s three square meals, a bed, as much television as I want and I don’t have to work for a living! And, what’s the likelihood of any judge or jury sentencing me to death for my crime? Even if they do, I’m sure to have some sympathetic humane group attach themselves to my cause and plead for leniency or even clemency! And, even if a judge won’t hear of it, I have the appellate courts to rely upon. And, if my case is not overturned, how many years on death row will it be until they actually execute me. By then I’ll be an old man and I won’t care anyhow! Looking at it this way, the odds are in my favor!’
“And he is right! Under America’s current judicial system, the odds are in the criminal’s favor! Capital punishment can only be the deterrent to future potential criminals that God intends it to be, if the execution of a properly convicted criminal is carried out posthaste….”
