Fake quotes by Saudi Grand Mufti Abdulaziz bin Abdullah Al-Sheikh and the Grand Mufti of Dubai Ahmed al-Haddad condemning the Hamas treatment of the bodies of the Bibas children have gone viral.
People are promoting these quotes with the best of intentions but there is no Arabic source for them.
“What we say today in Gaza is a disgrace to Islam, an act of blasphemy against Allah,” Saudi Grand Mufti Abdulaziz bin Abdullah Al-Sheikh reportedly said.
The social media posts claiming this racked up millions of likes. They were even quoted by a few papers which failed to do their research.
The quote has been disavowed.
The quote by Grand Mufti of Dubai Ahmed al-Haddad reportedly stated that, “Hamas has brought shame to Islam on a level never seen before.”
The quote has not been officially disavowed, but an Emirati journalist stated that he had never heard of it.
The only place the quote appears in Arabic is on a Christian Arab pro-Israel woman’s Facebook page. It should be assumed to be fake until proven otherwise.
People insisted on making up and then tweeting these fake quotes out of some hope that Islam was more merciful and decent than it is.
The problem is the merciful and decent people were the non-Muslims making up these quotes and attributing them to Muslim religious figures.
The quotes are fake until proven otherwise. People should stop spreading them and stop spreading the lie that Islam condemns what we saw in Gaza.
People so desperately want to believe in the goodness of Islam that they’re making it up.
°° a long-ago lesson that is an evergreen …

That’s one thing Sir Richard Burton pointed out about the Arabs in the 1800s. Despite their backwardness, they have a certain level of sophistication within their own culture, including argumentation and being careful with their speech.
You can spray perfume on a turd but you won’t convince everyone its a rose.
Sadly however, you will convince many.
I too was duped by the initial reports. We all want to believe there is sliver, a shred of decency amongst the various tribes of islam. This may be too much to hope for.
If the Mufti actually said it, he’s lying, if he didn’t say it, he’s consistent. Either way, it’s O.K. By the Koran.
Take a real look at how Women in those Islamic Nations are really treated then oppose Open Borders when the truth is seen by their own eyes and not the fake pictures from the No Human is Illegal Fools show you
Merciful and decent people don’t lie hoping to exonerate murderers.
But the videos tell a different story. Look at the celebrations and singing as the coffins are paraded around. There is no way to interpret that scene as anything other than joy.
