Democratic values are being implemented in Europe yet again. Macron pulled every dirty trick in the book to hang on to power. Now there’s yet another trick of the banana republic kind.
The judge sentencing Le Pen accused her of “a democratic bypass”, but it’s pretty obvious who’s bypassing democracy here.
I’m not Marine Le Pen’s biggest fan, but she and her party had been steadily gaining momentum. And while I’m not an expert on French law, the issue here is that her aides were being paid with EU funds, but were seen as working for her party rather than the EU. And that’s something I suspect is routine in Euro politics.
What exactly is the distinction used to determine whether her bodyguard could be paid with EU money or not? Was he working for the EU or her party? This kind of thing is absurd. And it’s the weakest possible basis for handing down a verdict that bans Le Pen from running for office for 5 years and a 4-year prison sentence (2 years suspended) that isn’t fooling anyone.
The French authorities responsible for this seemed to have learned nothing from Trump. And they’ve also made the case that her NR party is the only true opposition party.
French Law. That’s a conundrum.
From what I gather, Justinian had existing Roman law codified to fit Byzantine circumstances. Somehow that got passed down and Napoleon codified it, and the Continent is using some derivative of that. Boggles my mind, often the opposite of what we do here. Somehow Anglo-Saxon law got included in British law and some of ours is derivative of that.
I am no legal expert, so I avoid going to jurisdictions where I don’t understand the law or how it is enforced.

Ancient laws like the Code of Hammurabi and the Ten Commandments do much to explain the best of human jurisprudence. Human beings must be governed, and that governance must reflect the moral state of the people who live under the law.
So what happens when many peoples / nations live under the law in empire? Either the law must extend leniency to the lowest common denominator (inequality we are experiencing now) or enforced with a heavy hand – to include permanent banishment (of one kind or another).

They still haven’t recovered from the blood-letting of WW1. The 1916 Mutiny was fascinating. Half or more of the divisions in the French Army mutinied. Petain set it right with a large number of executions, and became the French national hero, until WW2, when he headed the Vichy government. I hope I have the history right 🙂

Yes. It is the way of pursuing power in revolution: use their laws, then flaunt their laws. The only good answer is to destroy them. We need virtuous men to rise up and fight. The main obstacle for us is waking up from the progressive slumber that has pervaded every institution for at least 3 or 4 generations. They have conquered the dictionary and so we think in their terms – NOT in truth – but deception.

The French pursued “liberty, equality and brotherhood” with violence in raw political power. That is the worldwide historical norm to which we are returning.
Progressives worldwide have almost entirely dismantled Christendom, using our own Christian values for tolerance, fair play, “equality” and “love” to undermine what took thousands of years to build. We take for granted the blessings bestowed upon us by much blood and sacrifice and think our “democracy” is the thing which holds us together as a nation.
There is no “brotherhood” of man that can unite us in ANY democracy. The young men of generation X are bearing the brunt of our foolishness.

I’ll do you one better and get specific: The world is returning to the way it was before America existed. A time when only the ruling class elites ruled via benevolent or malevolent tyranny and everyone not in their class was either a serf, a slave, a peon a subject or dead. A time when the defiant were brutally persecuted and only the ruling class elites enjoyed liberty & freedom as we understand them today and what they portend.
The leftists in this country seems eager to rush back to pre-America times. Why? How does it benefit them? What are they willing to sacrifice to achieve their goals? I think we all know what the answers are.

Isn’t France allegedly a “free” country? From what I gather from this article, freedom in France is contingent upon whether or not you agree with the ruling socialist overlords/ European oligarchs. By all outwards appearance, disagreement seems to not be tolerated.

On another site, there was an article saying that the “embezzlement” charge was for doing party work while earning European parliament wages. Of course, this is NOT what people normally think of as “embezzlement,” i.e., stealing money from your employer under false pretenses. This kind of mixing party work with your actual job is probably almost universal among politicians, yet she was singled out for doing things that most lefty politicians in France (and everywhere else) are probably still doing with complete impunity.
