Under Gov. Jerry Brown, California started acting like a rogue state, particularly when it came to negotiating private deals with Communist China. The situation worsened significantly under Gov. Newsom.
California and China signed treaties. And Gov. Newsom took pains to distinguish California’s relationship with China from American foreign policy.
Newsom began his visit with a climate-themed discussion at the University of Hong Kong. He told the audience they “can rely on California,” while addressing claims that the United States is not a reliable ally.
“I want you to know, regardless of what happens nationally, sub-nationally, you have a partner in the state of California,” he said.
This is the kind of thing that would have led to federal military intervention and treason trials up until the early 60s. Even during the Cold War, I struggle to come up with an example of a governor telling the USSR that his state wanted to have a relationship with Moscow regardless of what Nixon or Reagan thought. (Which is not to say that it didn’t happen, I’m just not aware of such a treasonous incident.)
And so it’s little surprise that Gov. Newsom announced to China and other nations that California wants to pursue a separate foreign economic policy.
.”Donald Trump’s tariffs do not represent all Americans,” Newsom said in a video announcement posted to X. “And on behalf of 40 million Americans that live in the great state of California, the tentpole of the U.S. economy … the dominant manufacturing state in America, our state of mind is around supporting stable trading relationships around the globe.”
Newsom added he’s directed his administration to seek out new opportunities to “expand trade” and “remind trading partners around the world that California remains a stable partner.”
California is “ready to talk” with global trading partners, Newsom wrote on X.
Referring to the state’s economic might, Newsom added his state is “not scared to use our market power to fight back against the largest tax hike of our lifetime.”
A governor telling foreign nations that he’s separating his state from the national policy and wants to talk to them, and that he’ll be using the state’s market power to fight federal economic foreign policy is treason.
Especially during an economic war.
Governor Hairdoo is cruising for a real reckoning when he violates American law by making deals that violate federal foreign policy. He may think he is clever enough to skate around the edges, but the real meaning of the Commerce Clause forbids any state from making its own import-export statutes.
He thinks he’s president of California instead of the governor.
Newsom will never be held accountable for anything he does and he knows it. So far Republicans have shown no spine. They will regret it when Newsom wins in 2028 and then takes retaliation against Republicans who will cower in the corner wondering, once again, how it could happen.
You are correct except with the assumption Gruesome NewScum will win over JD Vance in 2028.
Governor Nuisance the CFR/Globalists/DNC/Traitor to America if he isn’t already to replace our 2nd Amendment with the 28th More reasons for his Recall and Trial for Treason
While technically Loathsome Newsom’s actions can’t be prosecuted as Treason, the states are expressly forbidden to “enter into any agreement or compact…with a foreign power” – a Constitutional provision that Democrat Governors seem to be totally ignorant of. Therefore, even if Newsom negotiates such an agreement, it would be void ab initio and no competent (i.e. non-Democrat) judge would enforce it.
And does Newsom think that somehow Chinese goods could enter the Port of Los Angeles and be unloaded without Federal Customs agents being aware of it? Democrats really aren’t very good at thinking things out.
Does the Logan act only preclude private citizens?
AI:
The Logan Act, codified as 18 U.S. Code § 953, prohibits US citizens from engaging in unauthorized private diplomacy with foreign governments, essentially barring private citizens from negotiating with another country without the authorization of the United States.
Here’s a more detailed explanation:
What it is:
The Logan Act, enacted in 1799, makes it a felony for any private citizen to negotiate with a foreign government without prior authorization from the United States.
Key Elements:
The act focuses on communications with a foreign government, without the authority of the United States, and for the purpose of influencing the actions of the foreign government in relation to a dispute with the United States or defeating US policy.
Historical Context:
The law was enacted in response to a situation where a private citizen, Dr. George Logan, traveled to France and engaged in negotiations with French officials during a period of rising tensions between the two countries.
Enforcement:
While the Logan Act has been in place for over 200 years, there have been no prosecutions under the act, according to Every CRS Report.
The Logan Act. Who’s gonna enforce this Act??? Sounds like Newsom has been doing things with China
for about 20 years or so. It’s obvious that the feckless US senate and House don’t care! Maybe Trump
will? We’ll have to wait and see?
The Democrats in California are currently trying to cause a water shortage by taking down existing dams and reservoirs. That will cause some of the rivers to run dry during summer time and drought periods. Such as the Russian River which supplies water to Marin and Sonoma Counties.
Good thing we have President Trump. I just hope he’s alerted of the Russian River (terrible name) situation promptly. He already turned the water back on to the parts of the Central Valley that had been cheated out of theirs for who knows how many years.
Besides pandering to the environ-mental case lobby, I have no idea why the D-Bags do their utmost to dry up the state.
We already have Recall against this Globalists/Traitor and he should get Life in Prison without Parole Pardons or Clemency Lock him up and throw away the key
I recall the debate over bringing China into the WTO and giving it favored nation status. We had dillweed after dumbass coming on TV telling us how it would make China loosen up and start adopting more democratic ways, once they got a taste of American style freedom and consumerism. At the time I knew it would be opposite, that our corporations and politicians would see the immense power and control of the CCP and would want that for themselves. Trump just to put a stop to that nonsense with this massive tariff, very close to the levels following Smoot Hawley in 1930(SH was 20% added to an existing 40% rate).
Newsom would rather trust a nation that uses slave labor than trust Trump. Was this man ever so much as touched by a scruple even once?
Hmmm…. I wonder. Does the US Constitution not apply to California? Did California secede from the union and if so, when? Do we the people of the United States of America not still hang or shoot treasonous self righteous bastards like Newsom?
If so, then we’ve become so gotdamn cowardly that we’re unworthy of the US Constitution and deserve whatever fate awaits us at the hands of the leftists and/or the jihadists.
We the American people have reached a juncture where it is now an imperative that we ask ourselves: are we strong or are we weak? The answer determines if America has a future or is nearing it’s end.. One thing we can all be certain of: the weak perish, the strong survive.
This post answered a lot of my questions—thank you!
Governor Gruesome is exaggerating his importance. All he can accomplish is to get payoffs from China for whatever favors he can do.
They want to sew discord and running on the fashionable TDS – I don’t see how POTUS enacted tariffs will exclude California no matter how much these vile demonKKKrats lie
Grease head just keeps working on his hopeless 2028 presidential hopes.
