In surprising news, the newspaper that published a list of Jewish members of Congress with yellow marks over their names during the Iran Deal vote (not in 1939 but in 2015) thinks fighting antisemitism is a bad idea.
Or at least leftist antisemitism and antisemitism from its Islamist allies.
The Times promotional headline for its op-ed by Wesleyan president Michael S. Roth is ‘Trump’s Crusade Against Antisemitism Is Extremely Bad for the Jews’. The op-ed on the site has the slightly less ironic title ‘Trump Is Selling Jews a Dangerous Lie’.
I said slightly less ironic because as “the first Jewish president of a formerly Methodist university”, Roth is the one selling Jews a dangerous lie.
Roth defends Hamas supporters who terrorized campuses and called for the murder of Jews as activists and graduates. His argument basically boils down to “First they came for the antisemites, then they came for the Jews.”
“Abductions by government agents; unexplained, indefinite detentions; the targeting of allegedly dangerous ideas; lists of those under government scrutiny; official proclamations full of bluster and bile — Jews have been here before, many times, and it does not end well for us,” Roth contends.
There’s a number of problems here, but the most obvious one is that they already came for the Jews.
Threatening the Jews that they’ll be next after the Hamas supporters is a lot like saying, “First they came for the Nazis, then they came for the Jews”. The Nazis are a bigger threat than whoever they undefined ‘they’ are.
Rather than address antisemitism on the Left and on campus, Roth throws in Candace Owens (described as a Trump supporter even though she turned on him a while back), Nick Fuentes (ditto) Andrew Tate, and even Elise Stefanik, misattributes and misquotes multiple conservative figures, and wrongly insists “Shalom Columbia” is derogatory toward Jews.
And much of the op-ed is spent insisting that the handful of Jewish people who oppose Israel are equivalent to those who support it thereby actually doing what he wrongly accuses Trump of doing in Charlottesville, insisting on bothsideism.
Roth virtually offers no examples of leftist antisemitism, especially on campuses, that might have occasioned Jews to feel that “there is a great temptation for Jews to embrace anyone who denounces antisemitism, regardless of the moral contradictions.” Is he too unwilling or too afraid to do so?
“In the second and first century B.C., the Jewish kingdom of Judea aligned itself with Rome to protect itself from the domination of Greek culture. Rome obliged, and conquered Judea for itself,” Roth concludes. That’s bad history, but worse still, Roth is missing the point. He means it as a critique of Jews supporting Trump, but he might consider what if it’s really a critique of Jews supporting the Left?
One might even say “Flee from the Roth to come”
Progressive leftish ideology, in all its many forms, is united in its hatred of all that is natural, good and beautiful. It is perverse, ruining everything it touches in the name of “equality.” No one is immune in western countries who alone have reached a state in which we can entertain its nonsense. Conservative Jews and Christians have a big job ahead of us. We can argue over religion all we want AFTER we have won this existential battle.
No matter how us Hebrews cut it – antisemitism seethes in far too many gentiles – It’s a luxury I guess – It’s not cool for whites to denigrate blacks – it’s no longer tolerated to decry whites in the classroom or other places, that ran its course and it had no tread – Hebrews can’t hide in a Protestant crowd – I seriously considered retiring to Taiwan – For the Wesleyan president Michael S. Roth to run circles in the dirt to make a dust cloud to hide in holds no quarter with nazzi jihad –
Majority of Americans are too busy and wiped out trying to survive daily, to feed and house their family. We pay the taxes and we want our weekends (I’m retired so every day is a freaken weekend day for me and I love it)
Intellectuals at universities don’t know diddly squat and who listens to them anyway?
Hello MuggsSD You say: “It’s not cool for whites to denigrate blacks – it’s no longer tolerated to decry whites in the classroom or other places, that ran its course and it had no tread – Hebrews can’t hide in a Protestant crowd .”
I am not a Protestant, so can’t speak for that, but re your other points, as far as I know, it’s still OK to denigrate us Poles/Polonians so effectively have we been put on the “unter” page by the most powerful media and academe in the world.
“”The 1970s represented a kind of watershed for Poles in Minnesota… Nationally, the entertainment industry and media singled out Polish Americans for stigmatization, and stores across Minnesota carried bigoted “Polish joke” products that were widely used. Because they had little mainstream media presence, many Polish Americans, especially young people, internalized these stereotypes. If students did not keep quiet, they faced harassment and abuse from classmates and sometimes even teachers. With the Polish White Eagle Association,
this stigmatization led to occasional pressures to remove the
word “Polish” from the group’s name as early as the 1960’s.”
(Poles in Minnesota, John Radzilowski, Minnesota Historical Society Press, pp.67-68)
And the book MAUS which depicts all Poles as “swine” is still much lauded and applauded. So I would say we have been made a very safe target indeed.
But why does “the world” – the current system of things on the earth – always need to have someone to denigrate, when we have been given the Golden Rule, which teaches us to treat everyone with the respect and kindness we would want for ourselves?
I don’t get his comment either as whites are still denigrated by the left (Polish or not and especially white men). Maus author turned out to be a crazed far far lefty – for some reason, maybe he has a mental illness. I have no idea why a “Hebrew”(I thought that was a language, btw) can’t hide among Protestants -is that something about noses, I wonder? – ever see an Arab nose?
People have such strange ideas! Mind garbage. Best left out of comments.
And awful Polish jokes are not in fashion where I am. Hell, no.
-Hello Cat, I am so glad to hear that the vile Polish “jokes” are not in fashion where you are. Thanks. They have never been in fashion here in the UK either, though I think there have been attempts to import them. It wasn’t until, as an expat, I lived in what was effectively small town America that I found an automatic sneer had been carefully attached to all things Polish.
It was a shock, but a salutary one, as I was also learning for the first time about the need to be “no part” of the world, to take no sides in its divisive politics and its endless conflicts – and its hard to explain what a golden country America had seemed to a child of the post-war babyboom like myself. That wonderful music for a start!
However, sadly, those “jokes” seem to have been to prepare the way for Poland to be moved to the Axis Side and made responsible for the crimes of the Nazi occupiers at whose hands they suffered so much. So they may no longer be needed.
And yes I agree with you that there are other safe targets. The white working class for example – maybe even all white males(?). So has “the world” learnt nothing at all from the seemingly endless memorialising of Nazi crimes?
The New York Pravda that covered up for Stalin and covers up for the UN/CFR/Globalists don’t bother wasting your time reading this leftists rag it will save peace of mind
“…a list of Jewish members of Congress with yellow marks over their names during the Iran Deal vote…”
Seriously? WTF? I knew the NYT is evil but that’s 100% Nazi.
The NYT probably supported the Nazis. They certainly supported Stalin and Mao and Castro and probably Pol Pot too. What is it with the NYT and mass murderers? What kind of gratification do the get from supporting mass murderers? It’s probably perverted and disgusting in which case, I don’t think I want an answer to those questions..
Maybe colleges pushing “multi-culturalism” will address why the Jewish people have demonstrably–see “Nobel Prizes”–punched way above their weight. Cultures that emphasize education do better on many measures. Cultures that allow their women to be in public unaccompanied by a male relative and allowed to show their faces have better outcomes.
In the town I grew up in on Long Island, there were very few Jewish people. However, they were overrepresented in the honors classes reserved for the top 10% of all students. When I attended SUNY Oneonta in upstate NY, there were many Jewish students and the devotion to their studies was conspicuous.
Those who would have us believe we need “equity,” i.e. discrimination against whites and Asian-Americans, to address unequal outcomes should learn culture matters.
Thank you – the AJC has also stabbed the Jews in the back as has Jonathan Greenblatt but what is new? I say defund many of these universities until they expel the Hamasnicks.
This is why everyone loves your writing:
“His argument basically boils down to “First they came for the antisemites, then they came for the Jews.”
but then you had to beat it to death. You really need to edit more, but you know that as well, don’t you?
Sugarman wants you to drop the brilliant parts. Much worse would be anything profound, but then it’s his candygram/ with all the well intentioned bleak grammar criticism the small mind can muster
Like the rest of the M.S. Media the American People are losing their trust in the M.S. Media
There has to be a child’s book full of parables warning/teaching them about the “opposite day people” and their dangers and basic evils so that they can transition from a child’s world to one where as they get older, is filled with them.
