After the Left spent years trying to drive out Sen. Manchin, it finally succeeded and also ceded the West Virginia senate seat to Republicans. Senator-Elect Jim Justice will take his place.
In Ohio, Sen. Sherrod Brown was ousted by Senator-Elect Bernie Moreno in an upset victory.
Democrats wasted a fortune on another longshot effort to win Texas where Sen. Ted Cruz held off a challenge by Rep. Colin Allred. In Nebraska, Sen. Deb Fischer survived a Dem effort to unseat her.
While some Senate races remain yet uncalled, Republican control of the Senate is certain. However every Senate pickup also potentially shifts the balance of power away from the Senate RINO contingent who in the past proved all too effective at working with Democrats and blocking conservative measures.
The more elbow room a new Republican Senate leadership has to implement a conservative agenda, the more likely it is to actually happen, instead of falling apart in a welter of compromises and endless negotiations.
Republican control of the Senate is also a personal rebuke to Sen. Chuck Schumer, who loses his majority leader status and his ability to set the agenda. Schumer, once seen as a canny operator, did little with his power and proved more effective at maneuvering and fundraising than meaningful actions.
It’s also a rebuke to a Democrat leadership that was unable to make the case to the American people why it should remain in power.
