Liberals say that we should pay public school teachers like basketball players. And they have a point. We should pay them like the Washington Generals. Or any team whose players consistently fail to meet their standards every time.
Instead, here’s the reality.
Fresno Unified School District’s first contract proposal presented Thursday to the Fresno Teachers Association includes an 11% salary increase over the next three years that would be contingent on state funding.
The district had previously agreed to pay 100% of health care premiums for individuals. Families of three or larger would pay a monthly premium of $260.
The current average Fresno Unified teacher salary is $90,512, and teachers also receive benefits, retirement contributions, stipends, and additional pay for coaching or other duties that raises the total average compensation to six figures, the district said in a news release.
What results are the taxpayers being bled for this getting in exchange?
In the overall Fresno Unified test results for 2022, 32.24% of students met or exceeded the state standard in English, while 67.75% did not, a change of -5.76% from 2019. In math, 20.82% of students met or exceeded the state standard, with 79.18% not meeting it: a change of -9.03% from 2019.
Pay more, get less.
In their insane greed, the Fresno teachers’ union is going on strike to demand free yoga.
The Fresno Teacher Association is demanding the Fresno Unified School District allow homeless families to park their cars in high school parking lots and to provide paid security in the lots, which they say will cost $500,000, according to a contract proposal obtained by the Free Beacon. The union is also pressuring the district to provide free yoga and meditation programs, which they project will cost $1 million, part of which includes reimbursing union members up to $1,000 a year if they consistently do things like attend a dojo or do yoga for at least 100 days.
In addition to $1.5 million for allowing homeless encampments and free yoga, the district is also pushing for “expanded cultural awareness lessons in all schools starting in PreK.”
79% of students don’t meet math standards. 67% don’t meet English standards.
How about we have educational awareness lessons and the only free yoga should involve twisting union thugs who hold children hostage into pretzels?
Municipal teachers’ unions have destroyed public school education and they’re only getting started. The only way to stop this nightmare is to open up the system with school choice so that taxpayers are no longer being held hostage by unions that fail to educate children, but constantly demand more and more.

Parents tend to look nostalgically at their children’s schooling, remembering their own school days. Those days are long gone. Laura Ingalls doesn’t teach in the one-room schoolhouse any longer. Both of my parents grew up that way in the hills of eastern Tennessee and, after marriage and migrating to central Illinois in search of work, they were shocked at the size and scope of the elementary school campus my brother and I would attend…but that didn’t stop my mother from nosing through every book and lesson.
She was afforded this ability because we were a one-income family, and that one income not only took care of the necessities, but the niceties as well. Sadly, this is rarely the case today, with both parents typically working and still struggling to make ends meet…or the far more common single parent trying to do the same.
This then, the “taking our eye off the ball” insofar as our children’s education is concerned, which typically isn’t done maliciously or intentionally, was noticed by liberal “educators” many years ago, and it was then that the indoctrinational creep began.
By any metric or standard one would choose to measure by, America’s public education system in 2023 is unsalvageable and should be placed on the scrap heap of history as a reminder of our mistakes and how socialists took advantage of them.
Obviously, just lower the standards. Standard are racist (sarcasm).
And “teachers” (mostly indoctrination agents,) work less than 8 months a year. June, July and August off for Summer vacation, a month of vacation time and every holiday imaginable, real and fake, off.
And they make over a hundred grand a year? FUCK THEM. I used to make over a hundred grand a year but I had to bust my ass in the hot Summer sun and Autumn rain. And Winter wasn’t much better.
I hate teachers as a class. They abuse or youth and DON”T earn their money.

I laughed when I read this article. The public school system is a failure. As for the English and math deficiencies on state exams, the reason may be because the teachers do not know English or math as well. You can’t have one dummy teaching another dummy. For those who pass those exams, its because they taught themselves instead of relying on a teacher. As for the $90,000 salary teachers receive, just think of it as another form of welfare, just like the people in Congress.
The teachers don’t teach subjects. They learn theories of education. And then they follow those theories. They can’t teach anything but they’re not trying to.
A random person off the street would be better at teaching division to students than an MA with seniority.
And the theory they learn in all U.S. teacher colleges is the “critical pedagogy” of Brazilian communist Paulo Freire. Among his theories was that teaching academics simply prepared students to replicate the existing “oppressive” society. Instead, he believed, “education” should be used to instill in students a critical consciousness to make them activists and revolutionaries to overthrow that society. His views were spread to U.S. education schools by Henry Giroux, a Canadian-American communists. When asked why he was a communist he said that “they ask the right questions.” Freire is the third most cited person in the social sciences. And that is why. Maybe Fresno’s teachers will name a new yoga exercise for him – The Downward Competence.
Yoga is gay but meditation works. Not that I believe the CA school system teaches it correctly.
Got me thinking about teaching division. It has to be something real to the teacher, which it may not be to the credentialed MA. Then have to pick simple examples and show them to the students until it becomes real to the students also.
Teaching is easy if you’re practical and fun loving.
That doesn’t exactly describe your average woke Dirtbagocrat, which is what the vast majority of teachers are.

Where can anyone go to get a job like a teacher, sorry, I mean a babysitting position with that type of salary and nine weeks vacation a year, numerous holidays, outstanding pension with thirty years service, and good medical benefits as well whether working or retired. I don’t think there is a company in the United States that is equal to that. Just think, after 30 years with a $90,000 a year salary that is equals to a $67,500 a year pension. That goes for a lot of Federal, State, and local government jobs in America.
California scores 49th in math education. And the state spends more lucre per student than any other state, by five times!
I doubt science is even taught. Probably just global climate warming change bullshit. Why learn physics or chemistry? Just ask your parents for an EV.
I taught Math and Computer Science at the University level for 40+ years. Reading, writing, and math are skills that must be LEARNED by the student.. These skills (like riding a bicycle) can NOT be taught by a teacher talking at the students..
The LEARNING process can be expedited by an effective teacher ONLY IF the student wants to learn. If a “student’ believes that active participation in learning is (a) useless and (b) acting white and causing him to be shunned by his peers, then NO teacher will be able to make him want to learn as long as he remains in his current home / hood environment.

School choice is NOT the answer! We already PAY plenty for good schools and good teachers. The MONEY is there so the OBVIOUS problem is the TEACHERS! Abolish the DEA, Abolish Teachers’ Unions! Install BASIC EDUCATION and eliminate all WOKE CRAP! Hold KIDS responsible – Hold PARENTS accountable! To make all this improve you will have to STOP VOTING FOR DEMOCRATS!!
For perspective, the median Fresno household income is $61K. (Note that a household with two incomes has those incomes added. i.e. a household with two people making $30K each counts as a $60k household) The median value of a house is $290K. This is not a wealthy area of California.
The Yoga is probably meant to salve the minds of teachers ripping off their neighbors. If so, it would be ironic that they are demanding their neighbors pay for it.
