Modern leftism has been plaguing the world for over 200 years, and finally obtained political power in many places about 100 years ago. We have seen its fruits. It is a horrible system. Let me give you two reasons, among many, I reject it.
1. I’m not a Leftist because it is philosophically in error from its very roots. I have been studying Leftist (Marxist, atheistic) ideology for half a century and its whole view of the world, from bottom to top, is simply flawed. Any ideology that begins by denying the most basic, fundamental reality in existence—God—will end up far, far away from truth and rationality, and will be horribly destructive—as Leftism certainly has been. If Leftism has done any good in the world, it is only when it acted in harmony with the eternal principles of goodness and virtue that flow from God. But when they have denied these principles, which is the core of their philosophy, the result has been death and destruction for countless human beings and countries. Cancer spreads and destroys.
It starts with the foundation, and if you go wrong from the beginning, you will inevitably end up in the wrong place. If I am in Dallas, and want to go to Los Angeles, but I go east instead of west, I’m not going to reach California—unless I make a near 360-degree circuit around the globe. “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge.” Deny that as the starting point, and you will always arrive at an erroneous destination—unless you come full circle back to it. Leftists give no indication they intend to do that. I reject Leftism because it is, philosophically, fundamentally incorrect and thus devastating to humanity.
2. I reject Leftism because of the kind of people it produces. A couple of years ago, before I started publishing my substack, I had a blog page online. Some liberal (I’ll call him Charley) found it, and began making long, rambling comments on nearly every article I wrote. At first, I tried to answer him, but I finally figured out I was wasting my time, so I cut him off, and then soon after, started my substack anyway. Well, Charley located my email address and started sending me emails. I didn’t have the time or inclination to argue with him—Jesus said don’t cast your pearls before swine, i.e., don’t waste your time with people who aren’t going to listen—so I kindly asked Charley to quit sending me emails, that I wasn’t reading them, that I would NOT read them, so please desist. After about the third time I asked him, he finally stopped writing. Until recently. Now, Charley is sending me emails again. Fortunately, I have a wise server that knows junk mail when it sees it and sends his stuff there.
But here’s the point—I asked him, kindly, repeatedly, to quit writing. He did for a short time, but now is doing it again. This is the kind of people Leftism creates. They have no respect for anybody. They think they have all the answers, you need to listen to them, and they will ram it down your throat if you don’t.
Folks, I completely and thoroughly reject Leftism because this is all these people live for. They don’t believe in God or an afterlife, they have no hope except for what they can get on this earth. In their own minds, they are obsessed with being right, and they feel compelled to force it on other people, too.
Charley has to keep writing to me because…that’s his life. Trying to convince others that he’s right. He has no other reason for his miserable existence. Now, I certainly believe in attempting to help people, which is why I write these Townhall articles, and post things on my substack and X, but if people don’t accept it, I don’t lose any sleep over it. I’m not getting younger, I’m going to meet God in the not-too-distant future, and that is a whole lot more important to me than even who is elected President this year. One hundred years from now not a single person who is currently reading these lines will care who was elected President in 2024. Now again, I certainly insist we all should do the best we can while we are on this earth, but I think a little bit of eternal perspective would indeed be very wise, too.
The slippery-slope of Leftism is what is dangerous. I hope the obnoxious Charley would never slide to the depths of a Stalin or Mao, but his philosophy logically leads to it. Charley is so obsessed with me believing him that he doesn’t have the decency to respect my request not to write. How far does that go? Charley doesn’t have any political power, but what we have seen in the last 100 years is that, when Leftists DO obtain political power and people don’t believe and accept the doctrine Leftists demand they accept, those innocent people end up dead or maimed or in gulags. Look at what the Democratic Party’s Leftist tyrants in America have done to Donald Trump. The J6 protesters. Steve Bannon. Peter Navarro. Seventy-year-old pro-life grandmothers. Obey—or suffer.
I’m not a Leftist because of the kind of people they produce—people like Charley who don’t have the decency to honor a simple request because he is fixated on his own “rightness” and he is trying to force me to accept it, too. But following that logic to its ultimate conclusion produces Stalin, Mao, Pelosi, Biden, and the Democratic Party, who have no God they believe in but themselves. And if you don’t believe in THEIR God, then off comes your head.
Leftism is wrong philosophically. And that is further evident by the kind of people Leftist philosophy produces. It needs to be eradicated from the earth.
Leftism means Big Brothers Watching You like 1984
“Any ideology that begins by denying the most basic, fundamental reality in existence—God—will end up far, far away from truth and rationality, and will be horribly destructive”
This is a total non sequitur.
“Folks, I completely and thoroughly reject Leftism because this is all these people live for. They don’t believe in God or an afterlife, they have no hope except for what they can get on this earth. In their own minds, they are obsessed with being right, and they feel compelled to force it on other people, too.”
Christianity is eternally weaponized for theocracy. Complete and serious Christianity leads to theocracy, always has, and always will. Christian theocracies forced people to believe in Christianity or be persecuted for being infidels and/or persecuted for blasphemy.
Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness are all about life on earth, liberty on earth, and pursuing happiness on earth, they are all about getting what happiness you can out of your life on earth. Those values have nothing to do with escaping life on earth for some supernatural, after-life, magical kingdom.
Well T, I have no idea who wrote this garbage since you didn’t credit anyone, but I have to assume it’s you. The level of anger and the clunkiness of the prose suggest that.
There’s really nothing to say beyond it since we have seen these paragraphs many times over the years. Nothing has changed, except your level of vitriol and frustration. Perhaps no one is listening or cares.
I wonder what it’s like to be the mayor of your own special kind of hell.
‘Confutatis maledictis flammis acribus addictis’
“Modern leftism has been plaguing the world for over 200 years, and finally obtained political power in many places about 100 years ago. We have seen its fruits. It is a horrible system.”
And before modern Leftism the West had approximately one-thousand years of the Christian Dark and Middle Ages. A horrible system of Christian theocracy.
And as Leftism slowly recedes into obscurity, its retarded cousin, Objectivism is also doing the same. Born of a loose woman without any kind of moral center, taken up by mostly weak men who sit around debating how many angels can dance on the head of a pin, Objectivism is quickly passing into the dustbin of history.
It really doesn’t matter to anyone how often you misname the Middle Ages. It lasted for over 800 years. Even your vaunted Renaissance didn’t last that long……maybe 300 years.
I’m still waiting for all of those great works of Objectivist Art. You know, music, paintings, poetry, etc.
Still waiting.
A bit of a quibble. The problem with leftism is the same problem that led to Lucifer being cast out of heaven. That is, the desire for its adherents to put themselves above God. Naturally, being above God, they must be obeyed and failure to obey them (i.e. god) brings with it a just punishment.
My cynical side says that those at the top of the food chain throughout history actually believe in themselves more than the tenets of the left, or of Christianity, or of Islam, or of, or of…. “Belief” is merely a tool for power. Those using leftism today would just as easily use Christianity yesterday or Islamism next week. They adhere to no moral code beyond their own and circumstance alone dictates their path to power.
Those railing against the bloody history of Christianity or of Leftism or of Islam as justification for their own rise to power are simply more of the same in a different uniform. Therefore, industrial killing is more a reflection of the age rather than a mark against the left. Given the chance and the resources, those placing themselves as god will slaughter the unbelievers no matter which belief is ascendant.
Mark Lewis’s article asserts that conservative politics is based on “the most basic, fundamental reality in existence—God.” So if you’re an atheist, you can’t be a conservative? Do readers of Front Page magazine agree with that?
I reject “Leftism” because I learned as a little girl that it’s another name for Communism. When I was a little girl my parents sponsored a refugee “Freedom Fighter” from Hungary after the 1956 Revolution. He was a distant cousin of my mother’s. My mother was bilingual and she helped refugee children who went to the Catholic school with me to learn English after school hours.
I don’t know why so many conservatives are afraid to Democrat extremists as Communists. It starts with a Socialist ideology (anti-Capitalism and the totalitarian State) and it’s either Fascism, Communism or both. Those ideologies are the enemies of what used to be called the Free World which is rapidly shrinking.
Rationally reasoned, compellingly argued, and perfectly put, Mark!
I still remember studying The Communist Manifesto in my Classical Political Science 101 course as a freshman, more than 50 years ago–the literally diabolical prescription for the utter destruction of Western Civilization and all of the hard-won individual liberties, prosperity, and other necessities of a good life, by a filthy, stinking, bearded, economic quack, Karl Marx, scribbling his bile in exile in London,
Why Marxism, with its long-proved, indisputable curses of poverty and enslavement under totalitarian dictatorship is now more than ever celebrated–especially among our own universities’ faculty and undergraduates–is beyond my comprehension.
Another great work that we studied was Plato’s Republic–the great ancient philosopher’s famous design for a “perfect” government, with the citizens ruled by a small elite of “superior” “Guardians,” as Woodrow Wilson envisioned and today’s Left demands.
Clearly, those who advocate such an oppressive, tyrannical system never answer (nor are ever pressed to answer) the final, haunting, Eternal Question at the very end of Pato’s masterpiece: In Latin, it’s usually translated from the original Greek to: “Quis custodiet ipsos Custodes?” In English, “Who shall guard these Guardians?”
We need the Left’s Answer to that…before they Finish the Job of destroying our noble, free Civilization.
