The hard and fast rule is that leftists stop being funny when they get political. Political comedy can be funny but it’s funny to the degree that the humor comes first. And once lefties start doing political comedy, it usually becomes shrill mockery and then just political statements recited in a funny voice.
Screaming some variation of “Trump sucks” is objectively rarely going to be funny. But lefties insist that this stuff is funny because they find it cathartic and it expresses their frustrations.
Cue Larry David getting a ton of publicity for writing “My Dinner With Hitler”. He should have learned from Georgia that his cringe comedy becomes extra cringe when he starts trying to advance his political views. But “My Dinner With Hitler”.is Andy Borowitz levels of bad. It’s the line every lefty has been using since 2016.

None of the humor that came out of the USSR was from leftists. It was all from Samizdat and opponents of the regime.
One day, the minister for posts (the Soviet Union’s counterpart of the postmaster general in the U.S.) knocked timidly on the door to Brezhnev’s office. Brezhnev called him in.
“Comrade Brezhnev,” the minister began, looking worried, “I have some bad news.”
“What’s the problem?” asked Brezhnev.
“It’s about the new 50-kopek stamp with your picture on it. It keeps falling off letters.”
“Why is it falling off?”
“We did an investigation, Comrade Brezhnev. We discovered that half the people who buy the stamp are spitting on the wrong side.”
“What about everyone else?”
“The rest of the people are licking so eagerly that there’s no glue left.”
