After the party’s serial humiliations in 2024, Sen. Schumer has become the fall guy for not going all in on a government shutdown. The Senate Minority Leader tried to explain to the base that a shutdown would have given Trump more power (what a reversal from previous precedents when Republicans were the ones who blinked in nanoseconds) but no one cared. The party’s base wants some kind of fight. Any kind of fight.
Sen. Schumer is refusing to step down even as some members of the congressional delegation want him to go, but no one really talks about who’s supposed to replace him. The obvious answer is one of the Senate’s premier lefty trolls like Sen. Bernie Sanders or Sen. Elizabeth Warren. But despite his latest self-promotion tour, Sanders has a consistent record of spending his entire life talking about what needs to happen with no actual accomplishments, teamwork skills and bent over to his party’s left-wing showing that he also has no principles. Warren, apart from being a lefty fanatic and personally off-putting, already got to staff up the Biden administration, and her ‘accomplishments’ were soundly rejected by the American People.
You would have to live in Portland or San Francisco to think that an 83-year-old reject from a kibbutz and puppet show or the universal sour schoolmarm prattling on about corporations is the answer to the party’s problems. And yet without them, what’s left? Sen. Chris Murphy doing his sleazy imitation of a used car salesman while talking about lonely everyone else is? (If he hadn’t just been hit by a scandal.)
Even by the standards of a party that once selected John Kerry and Joe Biden for the big chair, the Dem Senate delegation is short of anyone with charisma, potential or leadership. Unless you count Sen. Fetterman, whom the Left hates a thousand times more than Schumer.
And what would the new Senate Dem leader do? Shut down the government? For what? Protecting federal employees? Illegal aliens? Men showing with women? And that’s the underlying issue. A party has to fight for something. And what the Dems are currently fighting for is a big federal government, open borders and sex predators. Americans rejected that platform in 2024. It’s not likely to be a popular reason for shutting down the government. The Democrats are becoming both the stupid and crazy party. Not a good look.

Good analysis, they don’t seem to have a very deep bench. No good young charismatic candidates. AOC seems to be their main hope.

If I were they/them, I would have Blumenthal come out as trans, slap a wig on him and some shirt potatoes and appoint him minority leader. Having a real woman like trans Blumenthal would definitely help them with the woman vote.
Quite frankly any inert object could be a Democrat “leader”. Just go with the latest fad of the mob and rant about any and all things Republicans….easy job if you can get it.

Except for Chuck “You” Schumer, who wants to lead the Democ-rat political party? Nobody? It looks like that thankless job is about as undesirable as FDR’s V.P., John Nance Garner, III, assessed his Vice President’s job: “Not worth a bucket of warm spit.”
Who Can Replace Schumer? Well if they’d want someone just like him, the answer could be Satan.

Who can replace Schumer. John Cornyn seems like the perfect replacement. Same commitment to country, vigorous advocacy of principles, beliefs about the everyday American, and fidelity to truth.
